Detailed Reviews
Spending my long weekend at this island, and stayed at this hotel. Which is about 10 minutes walk from the ferry terminal.
A very old school hotel setting that hasn’t been upgraded. But the staffs are very friendly here.
My room was on level 3, which is sadly without any view from my windows. It has been blocked by the building wall beside the hotel.
Air-conditioning still running well and the room has been cool down before I enter my room.
Only one electric plug still useable in my room and away from the bed.
The WiFi connection unfortunately wasn’t good enough to stream movies. I got cut off a few times due to poor network.
You have to shower on the top of the bath tub, but I love the powerful water flow. Hot water could take some time.
You will be given a breakfast voucher to redeem your breakfast entry in the morning at level 1, which is located behind the hotel. The breakfast buffet offers the traditional Indonesian dishes.

The hotel has a nice lounge for the guests to rest upon arrival. There is also a restaurant which serves simple breakfast buffet. The restuarant has an indoor and an outdor seating areas. The outdoor area looks out into the sea. You can eat your breakfast and at the same time enjoy the beautiful scenary.
The hotel is 6-storey high and situated along the main road. There are shops along the road but they are mainly provision shops and shops selling batik cloths cater mainly to the locals. There is a money changer next door. Another interesting place is the local wet market which is about 10 mimutes' walk to the left of the hotel.
We stayed in a room at the 4th level. There are two windows looking out into the street. If the curtain is drawn closed, the room would become rather dim. There is no kettle for boiling of hot water. However, the hotel does provide a big bottle of mineral water. The bed is comfortable and the air con is cold enough. There is also no hair dryer.
The hotel room looks a bit old but if you just need a place to sleep, it is good enough.

to compare this to SG standard is like hotels in Geylang red light district. still stayable. but if u wants perfection this is not the place. in fact this island is not build up yet so there is not much high standard hotel around. this hotel is considered good enough.
one thing i like is the hot and cold pool, the sauna, the steam bath. this is called their spa facilities which u got to pay to use cause its also open to public. just to let u noe its a unisex so women and men all share same facilities. u are given kimono n shorts to cover up n soak in.
i love their relexology offer. they apply the correct pressure. u might still find it painful but it may be due to ur body tolerance and health.
DO NOT take their SPA!!!
took the 3hr package which consist of using the spa facilities, aromatherapy, foot bath, scrub, massage, milk bath.
while waiting for the massue to come then i thinking they didnt state how long each of the service is. so how would we know if we been given the correct thgs and how long it can last.
i saw they lit the aroma thgy but i dun smell any relaxing sense. the foot bath is just pouring water over n over again in a basin. i duno whether they are masagin or moisterising or scrubing cause its like all the same. and they gossip in their own dialect. maybe its my fault for not enquiring much abt the spa cause i been to spa before in SG n in Thailand but this is just diff.
they asking why never do spa in our own hotel. then i thinking if i take scrub and all wouldnt the hotel bed be dirty n wet cause its a different kind of mattress.
anyway the spa i paid for 3 hrs last only like 2hrs so i feel cheated.
other then dat hotel is ok place to sleep in n i really like the spa facilities to relax in.

this hotel is a nice place to relax,it's clean the staff are polite,it's worth the cost to stay at this hotel with hot water ,aircon all working fine.i visited the water falls i guess it's not raining season so it was only like a stream with water going down a short cliff ,nothing much to see anyway.i visited a beach in some part of the island not many people around as it was not a saturday or sunday or a holiday ,nice part is that they have small huts along the beach where you can order drinks and food from the people who owns the huts.the foot massage is better in batam, the food around that area is ok ,eating at hotel is cheap too.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights (2 Oct 17 - 3 Oct 17) Staff are friendly and courteous. Check in was quick. Rooms are equip with mini fridge & mini bar, tea making facilities, TV etc. There is no bath tub...only standing shower. Breakfast is available as it comes in along with your room booking and it is served as a buffet and it is quite reasonable.
Karimun island is not a destination holiday yet. It served only as an alternative for holiday sex seekers.
There is no big shopping centers. Tourism infratructure is not yet in place. So tours are usually ran by taxi drivers. They will start to hassle you the minute you arrived at the harbour. Frankly these taxis drivers could be your worst NIGHTMARE as they could ruin your holiday plan in Karimun. The truth is there is no place for you to lodge a complain against them!!!!!

Just finished my second stay here. Had wrote a negative review after my first stay one year ago. However, I had no choice but checking in this hotel again due to lack of alternatives in Balai. After one year, there were still flies and karaoke noises in the hotel; staff still spoke very poor English; breakfast was still unsatisfying; bad smell still lingered in the room.
This time I was especially disappointed that the wifi went on and off every now and then. I was forced to stop my online phone calls several times. Besides, the shower room was not properly divided from the restroom, so the water went everywhere once I started showering. Really, really bad experiences. Hope I won't need to stay here next time.

Not bad a hotel for 30 odd dollars. Near convenient stores and eateries and extremely helpful reception staff. Rooms were clean and very spacious. Spend a few more dollars to stay in the new wing. Complete with TV and toiletries, fridge and safe. Score very well for cleanliness. Breakfast was so so, but cheap ktv with good systems, excellent (not so ex spa - 96000IDR/hr) and a good location. Balai would be easier to explore with a driver. If you need a recommendation for an honest and price competitive driver, buzz me. Don't try your luck at the jetty.

Went there with my husband for some business in April 2014. Took a ferry from Kukup. Return fare was about RM100 per head. Was originally planned to take the ferry from Puteri Harbour, but rumours on a few cases like ferry was cancelled last minute and money was not returned, etc. made us travel to Kukup (30min-1hr driving) and depart from there. Reached Tanjung Balai after about 30 minutes ride. Taxis were everywhere and they can take you to just anywhere. Just, please check you hotel location, should it is only a walking distance from the terminal as taxis would love to bring you there and simply charged you randomly. We stayed at Maximillian Hotel, which was worth taking the taxi to get there.
Hotel was nice since we got a newly refurbished room (New Standard Room), nice bath room with shower, flat screen TV, Tea making facilities, good sleeping quality. Spa and indoor pools seems nice in the brochure yet we did not have enough time to even enjoy their 15 minutes complimentary massage. Room were charged at MYR130 per night. During the day, environment were all calm but not during night time where lots of couples hanging around at the aisle of rooms, stairs and lobby which was quite disturbing to me. Breakfast was OK but make sure that you are early as they hardly refill the empty menu on the tray.
Nothing much to see there in Tanjung Balai but they are popular with their Lawet Coffee, Belinjau flakes, Moslem's praying wears, cheap pretty cloths and of course, one-night-stand partners. Luckily we did not bring any of our kids there as it was only a short business trip with the husband. Mostly, they are using IDR but SGD and MYR were welcome as much.

Room Type is kinda old style but too expensive. They don't really care about non-smoker's right. There is smell of cigarettes at lobby, restaurant and even room inside. They just provide A cup per room when we wanna drink cups of coffee. Double room but one cup, and, dirty! Too bad to this hotel.

The best hotel in Tanjung Balai Karimun so far with proper rooms and facilities. Located at downtown and surrounded by many shops and places to eat. For the island like Karimun, this hotel is beyond my expectation.

Eat... its easy to find food there. Next door or opposite there’s an nasi padang stall or Seafood is just nearby. Even the hotel serve nice food. As for activity, there is no activity going on there & no big malls like in Batam too. Such a boring place but I went there only for donation drive at the mosque.
