The hotel cabins (villas) were okay, and the staff was very nice. The "garden" grounds consisted mainly of some bushes and trees on the path to reception/dining room. We stayed in villa 8 at the end of the row. The biggest problem we encountered were very loud noises which ruined sleep for us for 3 nights. The main causes were the many pet or feral dogs that barked loudly all night long on and the extremely loud roosters that crowed extremely loudly and constantly from 3 am on. On the last day, the toilet had a bad leak from the bottom that spilled over the bathroom. The staff told us that happened quite frequently.

My wife and I stayed 11 days in this hotel that is surrounded by beautiful gardens and nestled in a sample of the rich and exotic nature that characterizes Costa Rica. We enjoyed not only a beautiful swimming pool but also a spacious and well-appointed Villa that overlooked a beautiful view. We greatly appreciated the hospitality of the managers Hartmut and Idali, as well as the careful and attentive service of all the hotel staff. Our special thanks to Maria and Daniela who took care of our Villa with great interest and dedication. We highly recommend Colinas del Sol, not only for a stopover in Costa Rica but to enjoy all the good and pleasant things that the hotel offers its guests. We will be back.

We loved everything about this hotel--the proximity to Atenas (15 minute walk to the center of town), the excellent breakfast, friendly staff, relaxing hammock chairs, and the peaceful setting. A wonderful place to stay in the heart of Costa Rica.

Daisy at reception was our first intro to the place -- weeks beforehand, she arranged our Covid tests and shuttle to the airport. We spent just 24 hours there and enjoyed seeing a bit of "real" Costa Rica. The hotel is lovely, with spacious rooms and a patio (kitchen, large clean bathroom, tv, closets) and a huge clean pool. We arrived in the afternoon on a Sunday so not much was open in town (20 min walk), but the next day, after our Covid tests, we stumbled across the best breakfast place (Tica's Cafe) and then went on a coffee farm tour which the hotel arranged. It was wonderful. We only wished we had another day there to enjoy the pool. The food was disappointing and the local dogs and roosters were whoopin' it up around 3:00 am. But it was a lovely stay.

Tucked away just outside of Atenas. Really peaceful property except for the birds. Great views all over. A short five minute drive into Atenas and easy to get to from SJO. Breakfast was great. The coffee was especially good.

We had a pleasant stay at Colinas del Sol while in Atenas. Our room was comfortable, and we loved the porch with hammock chairs. The grounds and gardens are beautiful, and there is a nice pool. Free breakfast was delicious and huge, and the service was great throughout our stay. This is a small, tranquil hotel and was a welcome retreat.

I'm reluctant given the covid situation to write anything less than stellar about a hotel but the Colinas is okay but nothing special for the money. The road was surprisingly cramped and not like the photos. The curtains hardly covered the windows so the morning light was bright. The pool is nice. The grounds just okay for costa rican standards. The breakfast staff was hospitable.

Just spent 3 weeks with a group at Colinas del Sol. It absolutely felt like home. The staff very quickly made the point of knowing all our names - there was no request they didn't meet. The rooms are simple, but clean and well planned with good closet and drawer space. The grounds are very natural with lots of birds; the pool is fabulous, food was VERY good. The hotel is about a 20 - 25 minute walk to Atenas, but a taxi costs about $2 each way, so very easy to access.

We just loved the gardens, the pool, the hammock on our porch, the restaurant and the great People and service here. We spent our last 3 days in a San Jose hotel, and didn't come close to the atmosphere we had here. Can't go wrong here!

The room was what you get for the price. We didn't use the amenites. We were only going to spend the night there. We got there around 9:30 pm and 20 minutes later a couple with a toddle came to the room next to us. The kid played, screamed and cried for the next three hours. I didn't understand why they had the couple next to us and the other four rooms on that section were empty. The green area is in need of repairs and some nice landscaping.
