This was our second stay in Pays Basque. I am glad that we chose a small village this time. We loved the Arce! The room was overlooking the river, large comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was well equipped and spacious. The grounds are kept neat and attractive. Madame does an excellent job of supervision. The staff was always helpful and... More

We last stayed at Hotel Arce in 1974 and it was a great treat to return. We stayed in their newly built suite overlooking the river - it was fabulous! The suite is large, light and very comfortable and is furnished and decorated to a very high contemporary standard. Sitting on the verandah in the evening with a glass of... More

Located aside a flowing river, beneath gardens and green trees, this hotel is ideal for travellers in the beautiful land of Basq. We got a warm welcome from the owners, who immediately helped us to carry our luggage up the stairs. the rooms are clean, modest, but I did not find air condition. Ask before you book! There was a... A lovely hotel situated by the river. Rooms in the newer section were well appointed and spacious, whereas those in the older section were smaller and darker. The hotel is situated in a quaint town close to the border with Spain in Basque Country. We enjoyed our breakfast at tables overlooking the river.

We have stayed here before and been very satisfied. The location is superb, on the banks of a trout river in a valley reminiscent of the Lake District. The food is outstanding, the rooms comfortable and, despite what some people say on this site about the reception, we found Mrs Arce to be charming and helpful. If she happens to... More

This is a stunning location, and we popped in to the church right by and it's amazing with galleries that give it a sense of theater, and luckily some young man was practicing on the organ, heaven. The food was excellent matched by the setting but thought breakfast too expensive so used the Spar the second morning!!! Place not to... More

Dined in the restaurant after a local recommendation and had one of the most memorable meals ever. We travel for business and eat in many world class restaurants, and this one is right there with them, but at half the price. The sauce treatments for merluza (hake) and trout where other-worldly, combining citrus with meat stock; the salad and artichoke... More

On a trip through Basque France and Spain in July, we wanted to stay up in the mountains for at least a night or two, and after researching a number of spots, we chose Hotel Arce in Saint-Etienne-de-Baigorry just on the French side of the border. The combination of the idyllic mountain views, modern architecture in the room, and wonderful... More

We were pleaseantly surprised by this little gem! We had a VERY CLEAN room on the river with a balcony. The views were breathtaking from the room (but the church was under construction, so the stepple was masked with tarp from the view). But, there was no noise at all. Our room was well decorated and cozy. The chairs on... More

This is a much sought after hotel/restaurant and its riverside terrace. We took half board and were not disappointed. Our room was a standard facing the river with a small veranda. We spent our days walking and reading by the river. In high season don't be disappointed if you are not favoured with a terrace reservation. Madame Arce has too... More
