Basic but clean, nice facilities. Its all about the location in Iceland! This did the job for us. All self service so theres no contact with anyone. But don't bother with breakfast, we had really stale bread, some ham and some brown apples

Sine it was October there were only a small number of people at the hotel. Maybe 4? Services may have been limited due to the season. Rooms were nice, but the bed linens could be upgraded. Dinner was not available, needed to drive into Olafavik (15 minutes). Breakfast buffet was nicely presented, but just a few meats and cheeses and...

We read those reviews about how cold this hotel is so wasn't expect much from them. We have to follow the code no. sent to us via email to access the hotel and our room. At first we felt that only us and another room were occupied. An hour past we heard some commotion and were glad to have other...

This is a self-serve hotel. There are no staff present. We were given a number to call if we had any issues, but no one ever answered our calls. While the room was clean and we didn't have any problems getting into our room, I can't recommend this property.

The hotel is efficient but whatever they lack in posh amenities, they are the most honest people. We hid our passports under the mattress on our first day. The morning of the last day we realized we could not find our wallet. After calling them, they confirmed the passports were found. Thank you Hotel Hellisandur!

Clean, large by Iceland standards. No trouble checking in. Breakfast was great. Would stay again. Restaurant recently closed for Dinner it seems. Not sure why, but that would have made it 5/5 for me. Not much else around, but we are in Olafsvik before we landed based on info about restaurant being closed in TripAdvisor.

My understanding is the hotel was sold back in the spring by a family who once lovingly cared for and managed the place. The new (I was told Bulgarian) owners have a different concept which is definitely different from any hotel I've stayed. It feels more like a vacant dorm than hotel. There is nothing more in the room than...

We arrived in the evening at Hellissandur prepared with all information about automatic check-in. There was absolutely nobody but everything worked find with the upfront information. Rooms are easy and clean. Breakfast was great and everything what you need to make the next hike on Iceland and the employees are friendly and helpful (as far they could) If you are...

Do not believe reviews in Lonely Planet, this hotel has changed management and since it has no staff present, no restaurant and poor breakfast buffet. You receive a room number and a code to access it. BUT when we arrived, our room was occupied and there was nobody to solve the problem. The phone in the lobby does not work...

Wow, this place is creepy! There is no one working here ... you simply receive an email with a passcode to your room. So, when you walk in, you enter a code to the door and then walk into a dark, desolate lobby. As we were the only ones at the hotel when we arrived, it felt like a horror...
