We decided to go to Ras Al Jinz to do the turtle watching there. There is a tourism owned hotel, which is really expensive. The Turtle guest house is literally 2 minutes down the road. The rooms were big and had both air con and fan. The owner was such a nice man and was happy to help us plan our days. The rooms are clean as well. If you’re going to Ras Al Jinz, stay here it’s fantastic value.
The guest house is just 500m down the road from the turtle reserve so perfect location if you want to see the turtles. The hotel is much cheaper than the actual reserve. There's no breakfast available so I'd suggest taking your own. There is a tiny local restaurant that opens in the evening and we had nice fish and rice there. If you don't want local food, maybe get dinner from Sur on your way. We had a large ground floor family room and it was great. Massive beds, good shower, great air con. There was a little outside space with chairs where my kids played while we waited for the turtles. Lovely guy on reception at check in. Would stay again.
The guesthouse is located about 500m down the road from the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, which also has a hotel on its property. Rate for the guest house is reasonable, room is clean, hot water is ample, and bed is comfortable. Once you arrive, check in at the guest house, then drive another 2 minutes to the RAJ Turtle Reserve to pick up your group number for turtle viewing. Return at 8:30 pm and pray that the turtles show up. The turtle viewing costs 8 rials which is payable when viewing is guaranteed. There is also a morning turtle viewing session at 5 am which to me is a better opportunity due to less crowd.
So worth the price! Perfect location, few seconds away to the turtle reserve Hotel where they do the excursions. The outside is very basic as well as the entrance. The receptionist is kind and welcoming, and maintained all the covid policies. Rooms and toilets were comfortable, spacious and very clean. There was a kettle and the fridge and enough towels. There is a outdoor space where the receptionist kindly set up a table to have dinner. Overall perfect stay!!
The hotel is not 5 star, but it offers comparable accommodations to the pricey reserve at a fraction of the cost. The rooms are clean, the manager on site is absolutely helpful considering he probably has to explain the process for visiting the turtle reserve for all guests that stay at the hotel. You can walk from the Hotel to the reserve for the nightly turtle viewing. Feb/Mar is not a good time for Turtles, but we were fortunate. If we ever visit again, the Guest House will be our first choice. The breakfast is somewhat lacking so we drove down to the Reserve which has a standard breakfast buffet.
This Guest House is 0.5 Kms from the start of theevening and morning turtle watching tours. Check in to the guest house then book your evening tour at the turtle sanctuary 0.5kms away. Book if you can at 2pm and you should be in one of the first groups. Then enjoy the white sand beach 1 km away until 5pm when you have to leave. The dinner at the guest house is optional, it's basic omani Indian (Dahl meatballs smoked fish etc) but ok for 3.5 RO. Go to the turtle sanctuary at 8.30pm we had 200 other spectators so it's a bit of a scrum but by 9pm it sorts itself out and groups of 20 go 1 km to see the turtles laying. January is not a preferred month for turtles but still we saw 3. No flash photography and take a jacket it can be chilly. The guest house rooms are clean and spacious and Hassan the owner friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good fried eggs sausage scrambled eggs cornflakes fruit etc …
I stayed in this hotel with my husband and 2 friends and we were very happy with it. The staff is very welcoming and helpufull. The location if you want to do the tour at the turtle reserve is just perfect. There is even an hidden beach located 500 meters behind the hotel that we enjoyed. Room are correct and breakfast is really good. We highly recommand this hotel !
