The entrance to the hotel can be confusing if you, like me, follow an Apple Map, just follow the road sign that says "Umfolozi River Hotel" on the N2 and you will be fine, the road does become a short dirt road but nothing harzadous! The rooms we were allocated are grouped into a block of 4 separate rooms, we...

Stayed here with a Gate One tour and the staff was very friendly. Be cautious walking down stairs with moisture as they can be slick. The bathroom windows you can't exactly see through but you can make out silhouettes so that's a bit strange. Had a buffet here that was pretty good and the wifi was pretty solid. If you...

We stayed here one night during our Gate 1 tour of South Africa. It was located an easy drive from where we had a very good cruise on the St. Lucia Estuary and then it was not a very long drive the next morning to the excellent Hluhluwe–Imfolozi game reserve. Location aside, this is just an ok hotel. Nothing special....

After our river experience the hotel made for a good stopover on our way to Swaziland. Rooms were adequate, beds comfortable, although lighting was not the best, nor wifi speed very good at all. The breakfast was delicious.

Modern hotel. Spacious rooms that are clean. Protea often has the shower as part of the actual room. If this bothers you, then Protea is not for you. Toilet is private with a frosted door. Wifi only in reception area and is included. Buffet was good with a variety of choices.

Protea Hotels are always a "go to" hotel when in an unfamiliar area, be it in Zambia, Zimbabwe or South Africa. Lin this case I was extremely disappointed with this Protea, Umfolosi! The rooms are not clean. You cannot walk on the floors barefoot. The curtains are off the hooks and they are filthy. Bathroom floors not in any better...

The hotel is situated +-40km from Richards bay, convenient hotel for a quick stopover if travelling to Swaziland. Staff are very friendly and pleasant. They were available to assist with extra blankets, towels, baby cot and an umbrella to and from reception. Beautiful landscaped gardens. Rooms are neat and clean. Showers are a bit dated and could be redone to...

The hotel sits in a great location with nice surroundings. The rooms are ok - they are adequately size and not cramped, room is clean, bathrooms are decent and clean, however i suggest they install mosquito nets in front of windows as there are a lot of mosquitoes than come into the room if windows are open. There was no...

First off, the company has to check how they register in google maps, because it clearly took us on a wrong location by following exactly the directions to Protea Hotel Umfolozi. We reached the property and its really nice with a resort feeling to it just the moment you stepped out. Checking in was easy and we were taken to...

Not a bad hotel/lodge with chalets close to the river and a sea view from the pub. I liked the chalets the most, ultimate privacy and a cosy sleep with your own private parking. The TV's are a bit outdated...not that you'll watch them at all.
