In one of the most beautiful areas of Chania (in Crete - Greece) with an unlimited view to the spectacular beach of Falassarna (1st prize of the best beach in Europe 2002) just 200 m. from the sea, you can find our news stone built maisonettes and "GOLDEN SUN" studios. The room was clean and had an amazing view of the beach. Also, free parking as well. The host (Giannis) was incredibly kind and super helpful. Only drawbacks was the AC was a little weak and took a bit to cool down the room and the bathroom/shower was a little outdated and small (but not a deal breaker). The house is 2 mins away from the beach which is great. For the price it was a great value.

Room Tip: Since you are so close to beach, I would recommend getting there early to grab umbrella/sun bed...

The owner was extermely kind and hospitable. We were assigned a great spacious room with romantic finishings and a lovely view on the sea. Breakfast was good and I found the place very relaxing with lush greenery surrounding the hotel. I would recommend this place to all those seeking quiet relaxing moments.

Been there with my brothers and friends in July 2013, and this place is amazing. We stayed in one of the apartments, it's really spacious, nice decorated, and the service from owners are really good, they are very nice and polite, was a pleasure to be there =)
And the beach is just 2/3 minutes walking, really relaxing!!!

We had room nr. 12 and were very happy with the rustic beauty of the room. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was very, very hot, so thank God there was air conditioning. The kitchen was not as clean as our kitchen at home, but it has everything you need for basic cooking. We had a gecko, but no ants (maybe because of the gecko?). There was a hairdryer and a flat iron in the cupboard. There were candles, but no lighter. The balcony has a great sea view except for the car park for the big beach, but it's empty early in the morning and in the evening. The only thing we really hated about the room is that is was a smokers' room (with ashtray inside) and we hadn't thought to inquire about that, but we bought an air freshener and that helped.
There is a small market nearby, but we found that to be quite expensive, so instead be went to the Carrefour in Kissamos. We were glad to have a rental car. We also drove to the Falasarna beaches because it was farther than expected, we are very lazy and the parking is free.
The beaches are stunning - unbelievably blue water, fine sand and cleaned every morning. The downside is that there are legions of parasols and deck chairs to be rent (6€) because people come from far away to see the beach. Luckily, there are at least 5 beaches in Falasarna, so you don't have to go to the big beach, but you can evade the masses on one of the smaller beaches, which have rocks in places. They are not sharp and there are no sea urchins, so you still don't need bathing shoes and it's nice to snorkel.
We made three trips, one to Elafonisi, which noone should miss, one to Gramvousa, which was a big disappointment, and one that was meant to be hiking in Rocca and some other place I can't remember, but we didn't find the beginning of the trails and the locals told us there are no trails, so after driving around in the beautiful countryside for two hours we went to Chania, which is a beautiful town.
It was a very nice holiday and just the right thing if you want some quiet time on a nice beach without big hotels, bars, clubs and restaurants.

This Hotel is wonderful! I stayed at room 13 with 3 more people. The room is actually a house, with one double bedroom and a sofa-bed on the living room. It has two bathrooms and a small kitchen. Fully equipped for you to enjoy a nice stay.
The owners are very attentive and very nice people. There is also a barbeque common area at your disposal.
There are nice restaurants around the area (Captain Nikolas for example).
The market is 150m away. And the beautiful Falasarna beach just 10 min away walking.

Falasarna is a very beautiful and quiet place. Hotel Golden Sun has very basic facilities, but it's clean and friendly. Location is perfect to discover Western part of Crete including Balos lagoon (boat trips from Kissamos which is nearby) and of course Falasarna itself with its wonderful sandy beaches. Hotel staff provided us information about the region and told us about free excursion to Ancient Falasarna (very interesting but be prepared to climb the mountains).
We stayed in triple room which was very simple and small for 3 adults. It wasn't a problem for us, but if you are very much used to comfort, better think twice. Furniture and bathroom facilities were old. On the other hand, we had spotless cleaning service every day, and I liked the mattress on the bed very much, it was really good and comfortable (I have troubles with my back and always pay attention to such things).
You also should be aware that Falasarna region has very beautiful nature, sights, sea and beaches, but you won't find big hotels, bars or anything, no nightlife at all. Few small tavernas with nice local food, but nothing more than that.

We stayed in the old villa behind the newly build one.The room is a normal Greek room, i could swear it looked the same as the last 2 i stayed in.However, very very clean. We had a balcony with keyhole view to the sea(if you don`t book your room in the new villa, you won`t have a good visibility to the sea). The kitchenette was fully equipped, we had AC included in the price(very rare for Crete) and the balcony OK. The only think i disliked was that the bathroom was a bit outdated and although is was cleaned almost every day, it gave me the feeling of uncleaned.

Family run hotel, the family is really helpful and the owner can speak a little Italian, the wifi connection is not always very good in the room but it's ok in the hall.
The hotel is kept really clean and well organized, each room has a sort of balcony and all the place is surrounded by trees and typical vegetation. Not to mention that it is located very close to the wonderful Falasarna Beach!!

First, i would like to thank the owners of Golden Sun for the wonderful time we spent there. We, couple 40+, came for a relaxed holiday end of September/October 2013. Falassarna offers all for relaxation. There is no night life. But it has all ingredients for a wonderful relaxed holiday in Greece. Of course there is the Greek sun, and because the village is situated on the west coast, we had a romantic sunset every night. Second there is the splendid beach. It is big and wide, although we preferred a smaller beach between the rocks, as it was more idyllic. The sea was wonderful, sometimes it was quiet and sometimes it had some bigger waves, all good for a swim or aqua-fun. After a nice day at the beach there is enough choice for the Greek/Cretan cuisine. Falassarna is easy to reach, by car you (can park close to the beach and there is plenty of space). We came by public travel, which is not difficult. The bus stops at the supermarket, from there one can see Golden Sun apartments. It is about 150 meters. Golden Sun consists of two buildings. The original one and a newer one. See for more details the website: www.hotelgoldensun.net We stayed in the new rock building. These apartments are incredibly lovely. They contain everything one needs and even more with spectacular view over the sea. Also the stable internet connection was okay. From Golden Sun, you are about in the center of the village. It is a good spot to travel around from. The walk to the beach was about 5 minutes. Yannis and his family are friendly people who always stood ready to make your holiday as easy as they can. It felt like coming home on vacation. I would absolutely recommend this apartments to anyone who wants to relax and enjoy the Greek/Cretan life in an easy way. Leonidas&Christina
