Had a wonderful 3 days at this amazing place. It feels like stepping back to colonial days, with its big rooms, views and waterfalls. There's lovely walks amongst the tea plantations with steps down to 2 waterfalls you can swim in. The hosts Peiter and Gonnie do everything they can to make this an unforgettable stay as do all the...

We decided to start our holiday in Sri Lanka with a full six days at Ashburnham Estate. Our expectations were met in every way. The bedroom and bathroom were both spacious and comfortable, plenty of clothes storage space, we chose the Garden Suite. We slept well in the large comfortable bed, well protected by mosquito nets, though there were few...

We'd planned our trip to Sri Lanka around availability at Ashburnham, and we were so delighted that we did. You felt like you were "home" from the moment Pieter and Gonnie welcomed you at the door. The house itself, is a beautiful old colonial home, the rooms were very comfortable, and the food was sensational. The view, especially sunset, whilst...

I'm almost reluctant to write this review as when you find somewhere really good you want to keep it a secret! I can't however do Gonnie and Pieter the disservice of not singing our praises for their amazing hospitality and making our all too brief stay very special. We will remember our specially arranged candlelight dinner by the pool with...

"Ash", as the ones in the know call it, is a little haven of luxury, tranquility and a home away from home - all wrapped into one! Pieter, Gonnie and all of the staff at Ashburnham Estate are dedicated to make their guests feel at home in that wonderful villa in the mountains. The grounds, the house, the rooms -...

A fantastically informal, quiet retreat on top of a mountain, a working tea estate surrounded by birds, squirrels and native trees, a short walk to a waterfall and bathing pond. Unspoken elegance throughout (particularly, I guess, if you are English and of a certain age) and wholesome home cooked food (including a full English Breakfast in a hopper) for all...

It's an arduous journey to the Ashburnham Estate, but well worth it when you finally arrive - like finding a secret garden. The grounds are glorious, a waterfall can be found not too far away, there's a cute (but cold) swimming pool. The porch is really lovely, we had great conversation with our fellow guests and had our excellent breakfast,...

Our family (kids aged 8 and 10) had the most wonderful stay for 4 days at Ashburnham. After nearly 4 hours car ride from Negombo, we reached the place and were warmly welcomed by the friendly and helpful host couple Gonnie and Pieter. We geared down immediately thanks to the lovely and relaxed atmosphere in the entire house including the...
