Lime Tree Bay Resort

Lime Tree Bay Resort

Beware. For the high price and illusory photos promoted by Lime Tree Bay you might think you’re staying at a true resort. It’s just a clean roadside motel right on Route 1, not worth the price. They have a dive bar on the property that reeks of stale beer, with a sticky floor, where you’re served your “continental” breakfast.

Nestled in the heart of the Keys, Lime Tree Bay Resort is celebrated for its prime location that allows guests to easily soak in the local charm. The resort's array of complimentary amenities, such as kayaks and pools, is a hit among guests, contributing to the overall value despite some extra costs. The staff's exemplary service alongside the resort's spotless hygiene standards receive high marks. While the rooms are lauded for their tidiness and views, a few guests point out the snug bathrooms. My wife and I have been coming here twice yearly for the last 4 years and love it. The front desk staff starting with Terry Ford, Terri O, Anja, Andrea and Robin are fantastic and will take care of anything you need.

Next is maintenance and cleaning, the keep the rooms and the grounds spotless, always smile and make you feel welcome.

The owners have done an outstanding job of making this resort a stand out in the keys.

Being a native Floridian, born in Key West, I love this location as it truly represents "The Keys", old school unlike what Key West has become.

The amenities are great with bicycles, paddleboards, kayaks, boat dock, ping pong and beach front chess all included with tennis courts across the street and an air conditioned salt water pool.

And the gulf sunsets, they are spectacular.

They offer wonderful three bedroom townhomes on the canal, countless beachfront rooms, beachfront ADA accessible rooms and multiple suites to fit whatever your needs may be.

There's an onsite sports bar and restaurant with many locals to hang out with and boats rentals just steps from the front door.

Bottom line, we arrive, park the car and there's no need to go anywhere, although you're 15 minutes north or south from many outside activities and restaurants.

We love it here and will continue to make it our go to place for years to come.

Coming down from Boca Raton is a breeze, as it's a 2.5 hour drive and well worth it.

Thank you to the owners and staff for making all of our visits special, it's like our second home.

Pros: really nice grounds, access to kayaks and paddle boarding
Actually the grounds were the best part. Really beautiful beachfront to sit and relax.
You save money by buying all your own food and drinks from Publix.

Cons: pulling up this felt most like a roadside motel, I was expecting more of a resort. The ground are right off the highway and was not set back at all. We were early and did not expect to get early check in but let them know we were there. Realizing there is really nothing to do, we went to the attached restaurant Florida Boys. This place is kind of like a dive bar. It’s the only food on site. The food is absolutely terrible. The free breakfast is even worse.
If they put more effort into providing better food at the literal only place to eat on the island it would go a long way.
The room was okay but I felt like I was catfished by the pictures. The bed was broken and the bathroom was TINY. Everything was ALMOST clean.
There’s really nothing to do and no amenities. I guess if I understood this going in I would have been more prepared. I would have stocked up on food and drinks and really everything you would and would assume a $500 a night resort would provide you. I really didn’t see any staff the entire time I was there, it’s nice that they are not stuffy but also it’s a free for all. The problem with this place is that the grounds are great but very small, so let’s you have an obnoxious group of people hanging out outside? Well no one is going to tell them to stop being disruptive. Also there was very minimal room cleaning. One day a random lady handed me a towel and asked me to sign a paper. The next day we did get the bed made but that was really it.
Also the website says multiple pools. There is one pool and it’s usually very full lots of children. Why deceive guests?

I would say odd experience. Be prepared if you stay here you’re on your own and make a lot of outside food reservations!

This was our first time at Lime Tree Bay Resort! We went with family and friends. We stayed in one of the townhomes which was very spacious for our crew. Lots to offer on their property. Kids enjoyed walking out the back door and being able to fish right off the private dock! House Keeping was on top of things with removing trash and making sure everything was up to par. Only suggestion I would make… tight quarters in the kitchen area. Cabinets were a bit hard to open to get items out of. A cutting board would be a good addition as well. Overall, great stay for our crew! Thank You!!!

Interesting location right on A1A. We stayed in the rooms right near the office on the 2nd floor in a Premium Waterfront King w/ kitchen with a balcony overlooking the amazing gulf views. The room had plenty of room for two people with a large bathroom. Anyone you spoke with in the office was very pleasant. You have to sign waivers on a daily basis to use the bikes, kayaks and paddleboards. The pool area and hammocks were a plus.

We were celebrating our 35th Anniversary and were doing a 7 day driving trip from Miami to Key West and wanted a resort about halfway. I read all the recent reviews and chose the Lime Tree Bay Resort. And what a great choice it was. We wanted a room on the gulf and reserved the Premium Waterfront. Awesome room with all updated amenities and great beds. We started every day with coffee on our private deck and ended the day with adult beverages watching the sunset. The property has free use of kayaks, paddle boards and bikes. We kayaked and thoroughly enjoyed it in the gulf in front of the resort. We also wanted a property with a nice pool near the ocean and this definitely checked the box. If you are looking for great sandy beaches, you shouldn’t be in the Keys, however this property has a nice sandy area on the water with hammocks, lounge chairs and chairs for sunbathing and for great sunset viewing. If you are looking for daily entertainment, this property is located in Layton, about 20-30 min from fun in Islamorada or Marathon. Layton only has a boat rental company next door and a convenience store across the street, otherwise the resort is the only thing in the town (for tourists). Next door, but part of the resort is Florida Boy, a decent restaurant/bar with solid food and plenty of the locals to point you in the right direction of things to do. You get a free continental breakfast everyday at this restaurant. It is a few pastries, bagels, yogurt, fruit and coffee, but it does the trick if you aren’t looking for the 3 egg omelet, which you can get there for normal prices. All staff were great and they keep this place looking great, because, as most places in the Keys, it could show its age, but this place has been well cared for. All said and done, I researched so many resorts and for the competitive price, location (middle of Keys), quality and laid back vibe, this is a home run. I will definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at the Lime Tree Bay Resort many times and always enjoy our visits. The setting is over 2 attractive buildings with larger accommodation across the road. There is a swimming pool, loads of places to enjoy lounging around and a small pier which is great for fishing etc. Kayaks are available to guests. Our room was spacious, with a small fridge microwave tea/coffee machine and assorted glass/Cuna ware. A very comfortable bed and bathroom had extra shampoo/conditioner/body wash which a lot of places do not provide. Sitting outside on our own terrace watching the sun going down is a real treat. Layton Key is located just before Marathon so within easy reach to Key West & Key Largo. Staff are very friendly and the free breakfast is quite adequate.

Located on Long Key about midway down the Keys, this is the perfect place to spend a couple of quiet days or take a longer vacation.
Close to Miami and Key Largo and to Key West, but much less developed and quieter.
We stayed on the 2nd floor right on the water.
The condo is reasonably large, with a kitchenette area on entry, then a large bedroom with comfortable king bed and reasonably fitted out bathroom. No tub, but good sized shower.
Double width slider doors open to good sized balcony over looking the water and the spectacular sunsets.
Buffet breakfast is included in the rate and served at the detached restaurant on the premises. A la carte is additional cost. We decided to stick with the buffet, fruit, juice, toast, cereal, tea and coffee etc
The resort is large and on both sides of the road. Decked out in Key West colors. There is a dock, small general store down the road and ice cream and coffee in the lobby. Water is warm and shallow, looks safe for swimming.
Plenty of places to fish in the resort or on the Key. Parking was numbered and allocated according to room.
Eat in the restaurant, grill out on the property or go to Marathon or Islamorada. We drove down to Key West one day for lunch, but bear in mind, parking is difficult. on site restaurant is average
Staff are very pleasant, check in is a bit late, kayaks, wave boards, bicycles are all included at no cost. There is a little road noise in some of the front apartments, but nothing to be too concerned about.
Keep in mind you are in the Keys, so make sure you take insect repellent and sunblock.

Stayed 5 nights in the Zane Grey condos across the highway from the main complex. This was our 2nd stay here, with the first being 2.5 years ago. The property and service has improved since. The 3 BR, 3 bath units were perfect for our family of 5. The view was great off the back overlooking the private dock on the canal side (Atlantic side). Another family in our group stayed in an adjacent unit, so we could easily meet up and hang out. We rented a boat for the week and could easily keep at the dock right behind our unit during our stay. The location is perfect as it is directly in the middle of the Keys with short drives to Islamorada, Marathon or even Key West or Key Largo. Many boat rentals and fishing charters are available close by. There is also a dock on the bay side for easy access to the complex. When not out on the water in our boat, Lime Tree provides free access to kayaks, SUPs and bikes. There is a sandy beach area on the main bay side, where you can access the water in many spots. But, like most places in the keys, it is not a typical beach, so you have to navigate rocks, bay grass, etc.. to get in. The beach area is filled with palm trees with several hammocks and many beach chairs, picnic tables and grills for guests use. The complex does sit right on the highway, but once you are on the back side of any of the units, the grounds are well maintained and provide a very tropical and relaxing atmosphere. There are great sunset views on the main, bay side as well. Service was great and the new "touchless" text system was a plus as they sent daily reminders asking if you needed anything. If you did, they were very quick to fulfill. Check-in/check-out was quick and easy as well. Breakfast is included for your entire party and the text ordering system worked very well. A menu is provided and you texted your order for pickup every morning. The quality was pretty good as well (especially the egg frittata). My only complaint is that the NEW main pool was not completed even though we were assured it would be before our arrival. And the old main pool was closed for maintenance. However, there was a smaller pool on our side next to our unit, so it was not a big problem. Also, we did have to cross the busy highway every time we picked up breakfast or visited the on-site bar/grill. In short, this is by no means a "luxury" resort, but the service, accommodations and location made it a great value really perfect for our families needs. We will return again.

We booked a 7 night stay here at $280.00 per night & expected a comfortable room with moderate service due to COVID protocols in place. The management pretended to care by sending daily texts inquiring about our comfort & promising to fix anything “immediately”, but that never happened. Our room appeared to have just been renovated & renovation was incomplete, as there were no towel bars or hooks in bathroom & no place to place soap & shampoo in shower ( other than on floor). Room was sparsely furnished as well. We were told to place wet towels & trash outside daily & that towels would be replaced, but they never were unless we made multiple requests for them. Our “supplied” kitchenette consisted of 1 large plate, 1 small plate, 2 bowls, 5 large spoons & 1 fork. It was quite cold the day we arrived & heat didn’t work, & maintenance man said it was dependent upon another unit in building that would need to be using it as well. He did bring us a portable heater fan, which was sufficient. We were unable to call in food orders to adjacent (affiliated?) restaurant as their phone lines had been down for weeks, they said, so we had to go there to order food & then either wait for it or return for it, as it was crowded with maskless patrons. The sargassum on the shoreline was never cleaned up (as other resorts regularly do) so if we wanted to sit on our balcony the air was heavy with the smell of rotten eggs.. At the end of our stay the manager said she would offer us a small refund, but it’s been a week now & she hasn’t responded to either text or email. The setting was nice & with minor improvements this would be a desirable location for a Keys vacation, however, we would not recommend nor will we return.

The website boasts of an “extensive resort-wide renovation” with “modern amenities.” Our room, an alleged “Premium Waterfront King with Kitchenette”, was anything but premium. The room was the opposite of the bright, clean room posted on the website. It was dingy, oddly damp (even for South Florida), with appliances that did not work well at all. Housekeeping was below average with towels that needed replacing and the floors were not vacuumed or swept during our stay. Maintenance interrupted us late in the evening to get into our room to access the circuit breaker for another guest room with power issues which was frustrating. Continental breakfast left much to be desired but edible. The best thing about this place was the spectacular views. That is clearly what you are paying for.

Answer from Terry F
Hello. I am the GM of Lime Tree.. I have only seen the dock full of boats during Mini Lobster..The rest of the year there is one boat occasionally. I suggest you call and speak to the Front Desk Team and let them know what you are planning. The draft is pretty shallow so we don't take boats over 19 '. I hope this is helpful.
