We came to Sabyinyo to see the gorillas (which were amazing) but the Silverback Lodge was a treat too. The rooms (individual bungalows) are beautiful and luxurious. The food is wonderful. Even better was the warm, friendly way we were treated by everyone on the staff. The trek to see the gorillas was strenuous for us so it was heaven...

We stayed two nights, waking up at dawn to the beautiful Sabyinyo mountain at our cabin/room door and a fresh coffee delivered by Fidel, the butler. And a real log fire in our huge room in the evenings kept us nice and cosy. Real service with a smile: the staff were all really lovely and so helpful and told us...

We stayed two nights here, a great base for the gorilla trek which is a relatively short drive away. The area is a 2.5 hour drive from Kigali airport so be prepared for that, including some rough roads. The lodge is set on a hill which affords great views of the surrounding volcanoes which give the national park its name....

We had one cottage and one suite over Christmas 2016. It was amazing. The rooms are enormous and each come with a dedicated butler. The food was terrific including a beef wellington prepared for Christmas dinner. The service was good and friendly. The villa was a bit cold during the night even there is a fireplace. So take your pyjamas with you. No disturbing devices around and the villas are not too close to eachother, so very peaceful atmosphere. Food was good too. High but easy climb before you reach the reception or the villas. If...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is located in the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. Situated close to the gates of the Parc des Volcans National, it is the perfect base for Gorilla trekking. This is a community lodge, it was built and is operated by Governors Camp but is owned by the local community trust that use revenue generated from the lodge to drive socio-economic projects. Eight cottages provide wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and volcanoes. Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated “getaway” for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do. ... more   less
