It was my first time to Malaysia so I cannot rate this properly. Anyway. The room was not spectacularly clean. Reception was a little sharp with us. Breakfast was good. Good bed, good shower. Location is amazing. Everything is near by. Its cool!

Overall, my experience at Maya was slightly above average.

The rooms were clean and the A/C cold, though the bathroom definitely had a foul odor. Hotel balconies were nice, though the waterfront area in Lahad Datu is quite dirty. Breakfast was included and was basic but not bad. Renovations on a new fitness center ment that the hotel was quite noisy during day, but this should only be temporary.

One huge plus was the nice staff... the woman running the registration desk drove me to my transfer hub on the other side of town!!

This simple hotel is probably one of the best in Lahad Datu. It's location by the waterfront could be nice, but unfortunately the beach is full of homeless people. So even though the rooms have a nice balcony, we couldn't enjoy it while looking at this situation. The spa was nice.

Stayed here for 1 night on working trip to the Sabah east coast. Hotel being recommended by a friend. It look small from the outside, but inside you have to scale 2 floors to get to your room. Room was excellent. All room comes with a balcony so you get to see the outside or smoke your cigar there. Staff were excellent, polite and friendly. There is a SPA on the 1st floor where you can get your massage (for a fee, of course).

The hotel is nearby to just everything you need. Bus terminal, Supermarkets, Banks (ATM), local market, local restaurants etc. There is also a small cafe in the hotel, from the menu, I can tell you that the price is okay-same as outside restaurants. Stays comes with breakfast ( ala carte- but okay).

With the recent incidents of the 'foreign intrusion' into the Lahad Datu Soil, one can't help thinking of their safety. However, recently, people/local here lives normally. Nothing to be afraid of. Seems like things got back to normal pace already. In fact, in late evening, if you return to the hotel, you need to go through into two secured doors. The first, the main entrance, locked, you need to get attention to get inside. The second, on 2nd floor, you need to enter the security number in the system provided, otherwise, no entry.

Will I come again if I am to visit this town again?Definitely. Strategically located, nearby to everything unlike the 'Big Hotel' in Bandar Perdana, which is far from everything. The hotel being refurbished recently, so rooms looks amazing, no old stuff inside.

On visiting Lahad Datu for business, we stayed at the Maya Hotel and enjoyed our stay very much. The room was clean, the staff were professional and the breakfast area was simple but nice for our needs.

A budget Hotel but comfortable, clean and excellent service, plus a good experience with the SPA services, great massage from the well trained and experienced therapist from Bali Indonesia & from the Philippines..
Secured rooms because of the security access door before entering the rooms.
I enjoyed the free use of the fitness center with the new and modern training equipments.
The only Hotel in Lahad Datu with complete facilities. ( gym, cafe & spa)
GREAT & EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE!!!!!!

I stayed here with my girlfriend for a few nights in August 2013. The rooms are very new, the bed comfortable, good internet, a few good English cable channels, and there is a fantastic monsoon shower. This is by far the best hotel in Lahad Datu and it's very reasonably priced at RM 90. The hotel staff were by far the best thing about the hotel. One lady gave us a lift to the Danum Valley visitor center, we hadn't booked and had to wait a few weeks for an opening but after a lengthy conversation the lady from the hotel managed to get us a place for 2 days time. Back at the hotel the owner took us out for lunch and paid! That evening the owner invited us down to dinner in the hotel - again free of charge. My girlfriend wasn't well so he gave me some food to take up to her. Later in the evening we both had a full body massage which was excellent. Breakfast is a bit basic here - as with everywhere in borneo and it was a little noisy as some renovation was going on (I think a gym is coming soon). I've never been made to feel quite so welcome in any hotel. If you need somewhere to stay before the Danum Valley then this is the place.

Stayed at Maya Hotel for a night in May this year. It's a simple accommodation but is just nice and comfy although the air conditioning in the room I slept in was a bit warm. For 60 ringgit, you can have a lovely full-body Swedish massage at the spa, which is fabulous! They also have a door after the staircase, which requires a password to open so it's a safe place.

Architecturally beautiful lobby/hotel. A 4 1/2 star hotel without the pretentious-ness. Rooms were great. Staff was great. I will say, as an embarrassment to myself that I was locked in the stairwell for over an hour. I was just going to go down one flight and by the time I saw the sign that said doors lock and there is no re-entry it was too late. Oh, well. That is how traveling goes.

Stayed one night here. The staff was friendly and helpful, let us stay several hours longer than check out whilst we were waiting for our bus. Clean and modern rooms. Would stay here again. My friend tried the spa which he highly recommends.
