I was in this hotel with my parents and it was simply unforgettable! We flew in November, there were not many people. What I liked most of all was the atmosphere, we had our doubts about the hotel because everything looked old and seemed overgrown, but in the end we didn’t regret it. It turned out to be very fresh, the combination of jungle and houses was the best. We got a room right by the pool, so we spent most of our time there. It offers a wonderful view of the sea (as does the room), the photos look like they were from Dubai. The service was also excellent, high-quality cleaning, regular refills of coffee, tea and water. The running water and air conditioning worked. At the reception, appreciate the friendly and nice staff, I especially remember 1 beautiful girl, she helped with cleaning, towels and the location of all the shops, etc. The breakfasts were also hearty, varied, always clean, and people helped themselves to portions in a civilized manner, and not like in big hotels, where they simply tear down everything around them. They also provided, if possible, on site, a car (like on a golf course) that moved us between floors, but it was also possible to take the stairs ourselves. We used it several times to transport luggage to the room upon check-in and check-out. There is a gym. We also lived on the floor with a swimming pool, but there were rooms higher, we haven’t been there, so I won’t tell you in detail. I really liked the atmosphere from early morning, the beautiful sunrise and sunset can be seen from the balcony, and even when it rained, it was very warm and cozy. About 5 minutes from the hotel there is the sea, warm, vast and clean. This hotel is ideal if you want to live in comfort, but also close to nature (of course, without jungle inhabitants, but still). We visited this hotel on our first train to Thailand and were very pleased. The service and surrounding places really helped to penetrate the culture and get to know the Thais better, which was very useful. We are going again, but to a different hotel, to learn more about Thailand and its attractions. I highly recommend this hotel

We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights, located outside the center away from the chaos but reachable in just 10 minutes on foot and is quite good.
The rooms are spacious, clean, the staff are friendly, the breakfast is good and if you need the restaurant, it's not bad, but a little expensive for Karon's prices, especially water and drinks.
It gets very hot at night and the rooms need a ceiling fan because you can get sick with the air conditioner.
The swimming pool is very beautiful, from there you can admire beautiful sunsets, but due to the number of customers a few more sunbeds would be needed.

I liked it, despite a number of specific features. Cleaning - every day, water is brought, the sea view from the balcony is excellent (our room was on the 2nd level), umbrellas, hairdryer, kettle, refrigerator. The staff is friendly. They change the linen every day, they try very hard. Breakfast is decent, although not extensive (and we don’t need it). Those same specific features - not the first line, you will have to walk to the beach (or there is a car every hour to Karon, back - you need to negotiate a time with the driver, he will come and pick you up). If this is your first time leaving the hotel to the left, then to the right, etc., you’ll figure it out. A hotel on a hill (elderly people and parents with small children should absolutely not take it, but for those who don’t mind pumping up their legs and not gaining weight on vacation, this is it). It's quiet at night, because... away from crowded tourist areas. The rooms are spacious (there were three of us, they weren’t cramped, but they couldn’t be called luxurious, although they were also shabby - simple, normal, no frills). In general, we left and miss you. I would probably return to Phunaka, I liked everything, but my daughter didn’t. She would like to be closer to the sea.

We have lived in Thailand for 2 years, often escaping to the beach. Normally don't write reviews but we were really disappointed by Phunaka.

Yes it has a beautiful view, especially from the infinity pool, and nice to get away from the very touristy and not very nice Karon centre and beach, however...

Check in and check out best sum up the staff and service. Over 25 minutes for both experiences with no-one acknowledging us or inviting us to take a seat in a hot lobby. Staff overall fairly friendly but not well trained, not customer focused enough and very limited English which I can usually forgive but like they didn't care enough whether we were there or not.

Aircon broke in our room twice and again was met with a lazy "okay, someone will fix" and then no update on status until we chased.

Facilities are not 4 star and not a resort setup. Pool area only has 12 beds so of busy no chance of getting one. Pool bar is a make shift set up. Gym...is not a a gym. Nothing worked and like someone ran out of money to finish the facilities off. No spa facilties on site. Yes a shuttle but as some guests have said - one way only. Internet only really available in the lobby as rooms no strong enough. Overall food okay... But overpriced for what it is. Can find better food in the town.
Positive was a voucher for a free coffee and 30% off the restaurant good.

Lobby bar is depressing and our 1st drink in there (as we waited for our room) we couldn't hear each other over the bartender's disco music on so loud!

Overall like I said, we don't often feel disappointed in Thailand but wanted to ensure others are aware, especially if you are travelling long distance for your holiday!

Currently having possibly the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had at a so called top class hotel. On arrival, after 7 hour journey at booking in, was told that we had been allocated the superior room we booked, but with 2 single beds. Pointed out that we’d made specific request for double bed (5 weeks previously). Receptionist then told us that superior rooms only come with single beds, after showing her the booking with superior room description and our request, they finally grudgingly arranged the correct room.
Got to room to discover a note stating that the next day there was a scheduled power outage for maintenance and there would be no power, air conditioning or WiFi in the room from 9:30 to 17:00, apparently this was known about in advance ( receptionists said 2 days, but with the lies we were told by staff, it could have been much more notice), but the hotel only tells guests when they check in. When receptionists was asked why we weren’t informed beforehand, so I could make different plans as I rely on internet connection plus air conditioned room for office work while I’m abroad,
the attitude was that it was only a few hours.
The air con doesn’t’ really cool the room, as room was roasting when we entered, set air con to 15 degrees, it was still unpleasantly hot after 2 hours.
I then asked for a spare room key as we’re only given one key for both of us, receptionists then told me a bare faced lie, in that there was only one master key for the room. I pointed out that the locks were electronic and the cards were programmed by the machine sitting next to her on the desk. The answer was then that it was hotel policy, but I can ask at reception to get a staff member to open my room. When I asked how do I get electricity in room on if I don’t have card (presuming my girlfriend is out with it), all you got was a blank look and ‘sorry hotel policy’.
As the service was appalling I asked to speak to the manager, was told they were not available, asked when they would be available, answer was there wasn’t a manger, nearest was Bangkok.
All in all absolutely worst hotel and staff I have had the displeasure to deal with, I would give it less than 1 star, but that is not possible.

We had booked a double bed, but apparently you can't count on this. Instead, we got two single beds that could not be moved together. We contacted the reception, but unfortunately we were not given another room. Please be aware of this before booking. In addition, there was a cockroach in the toilet on the first day. The toilet stank of sewage throughout our stay. We wrote a note to the cleaning staff about this, but nothing changed, so it must be a stench that cannot be removed. This was very disgusting. We also experienced no hot water in the shower on two of the days. Last but not least, I would advise against booking the hotel for people with walking difficulties, as it is very steep and there are many stairs to climb. All in all, you can find much better hotels for the same price.

Good standard hotel with a quirky layout and great view. On a slopey area at top of town its very close to shops and restaurants. 10-15 min walk to beach or use free shuttle. I believe this hotel to be good value for its 4 star? Breakfast provided in airy restaurant was very good. All the staff were very friendly and amiable.
So, there is no lift.. you are driven to your Building (1-7) by golf buggy which we found a fun activity. Not normally any wait and you call reception for return trip at any time. We had a superior pool view, room was big, nice balcony. Twin beds so if you want double best to ask in advance.

A very decent hotel! Comfortable beds (I know what I’m talking about - I have back problems), well-functioning air conditioners (at +35 outside the room is comfortable), excellent view from the balcony (all rooms overlook the sea and the Big Buddha), excellent pool overlooking the sea (compensates for the distance from the sea), decent and varied breakfasts, friendly staff, cleaning every day (peculiar, but still😊)
I don’t understand the outrage in the previous comments... Thailand, it seems to me, in general is not about service and relaxation in a hotel room, but about the beauty of nature, a different culture, gastronomic diversity (outside hotels).
Of course, there are disadvantages - the hotel is on a mountain and far from the sea, but for the May holidays there were no available options closer to our budget.
I recommend it if you have no problems with walking.

And lastly, there are stains on towels and bed linen in almost all hotels - fruit is washed very poorly 🤷‍♂️

Nice hotel situated on a hill side. I live in hotels around Thailand and this was good value. The location is not great if you don't have transport. There is a free shuttle bus and a buggy to take you to the room. The pool is nice but not for swimming. Has a squash court for hire. The room is large and quiet. Nice big bath, where you can relax and watch a movie
