Beautiful island escape, amazing food and drinks. All staff were incredible, gardeners, housekeepers, service staff. Mark and Kyle made sure we always had a drink in our hands and were so much fun! Janice, Honey, Lacy, just to name a few, were at the incredible restaurants and always made us feel welcome! Ted was at the activities desk and led water aerobics, and anyone who can get us to do anything fit and healthy is a miracle worker! All of the staff were incredibly helpful and kind, we had such a relaxing time and will definitely go back! The pools were pristine and beautiful, at the adult only (15+) pool they had the option of serving your drink in a very luxe (NOT sarcastic) plastic wine glass so you can drink in the pool!! All inclusive is definitely worth it, although it doesn’t extend to cold milk with your free coffee in the rooms, which to us Aussies was a little odd but overall worth the money!! Three aircons in the two bedroom villa, so we got to return to brilliant icy cold rooms after a hot steamy day in the beautiful pools and beaches! Food was also amazing, so many different options and buffet breakfast included in everyone’s stay! Overall, we had an incredible time. Everything was beautiful and we felt so special and looked after. Cannot recommend enough!

I have toyed between 3 or 4 stars… we had a great time here and the hotel is lovely in an amazing spot with fabulous staff. However we did have some issues, our original pool villa room was pretty grim, curtains hanging off rails, faulty air conditioning, ripped sofas etc but when we complained Bell the guest services manager moved us to an updated villa which was lovely. We also experienced other issues we had to chase up such as missing towels and water, rubbish not being emptied outside our villa, meals not turning up in the restaurant etc etc staff always sorted any problems out but for 5 star you shouldn’t need to report such minor problems. I would also have liked to have seen the beach cleaned and combed as it’s a bit grubby and the hotel gym was pretty old and tired with rusty equipment and was very small. My other complaint was regarding the beach bag that was in our villa, there was no note/sign on it to say that you had to leave it behind so I took it as my hand luggage on the last day - we were then charged 1500thb which felt pretty steep! The hotel was going through renovations whilst we were there but this didn’t bother us but it would have been nice to have had the slides working and not had reception in a temporary restaurant setting. The beach bar was a favourite with its music and adults only pool (although we noticed a few younger kids sneaking in which was annoying) it had a great vibe to it. We had great service from a number of staff, Mac, Kyle, Aleen, Minny and Lester all couldn’t do enough for us. The Thai massage along the beach was amazing and a fraction of the cost of a massage in the hotel. Overall we had a great time here during our stay and as I say staff were responsive but it was a shame minor problems weren’t picked up.

Dear Hannah, Thank you very much for your reviews and comments. Our resort is currently undergoing some upgrading work and renovations and we are aware of some of the issues. Our team is working tirelessly to resolve this as soon as possible. Items in our room such as linen, towels, beach bag belong to the resort and are not meant to be taken away so our team did the correct thing to charge you for the beach bag. We trust you understand and remain, with kind regards, Urs - General Manager The Barceló Coconut Island Team

Rooms were quiet and couldn’t hear noise from outside. Air conditioning units worked wonders. The staff were attentive, friendly and always had a smile. Golf buggies were available to drive our young family whom couldn’t walk far to and from our room.

The kids club was amazing! Babysitting at really affordable prices and the staff Ning and Dada were wonderful with the kids.

Different pools were available for everyone and it wasn’t too busy.

Food was always top notch and presented wonderfully.

The massages at the spa were incredible and I wish I stayed there longer for more massages.

It was a pricey trip but worth the friendliness of all the staff who went above and beyond to make our stay perfect.

I stayed at Barceló Coco Island resort from 30/12/2024 to 04/01/2025.
Expectations were the best since the resort is a five star and given the amount paid euro 6800 (2 adults and two children: 14 and 12 years).
The sea in front of the resort is not bathing: the water is murky, muddy, it looks like the Ganges at its worst!!!!
At that point it is proposed to go to the opposite island where at 11 am a boat leaves from the pier of the resort and after five to eight minutes of navigation you arrive on an island where there is practically nothing. As soon as you arrive you have to pay 20thb (small amount, not even a euro per person, so 80 thb every day). Here the water is a bit better, but don’t expect crystal clear water, always slightly cloudy but definitely cleaner than the resort. At 2:00 p.m., we have to get back. Another negative note is the breakfast buffet that at 10:10 was no longer replenished. Twice at the Italian restaurant (so to speak), we did not eat because between the order and the arrival of the dishes it was more than two hours despite numerous reminders.
The New Year's buffet was really impressive, too bad that since four in the morning I had a stomachache with vomiting and dysentery (I specify that I am abstemious and not a big eater).
Which he means can happen, but if you eat street food, not in a five-star resort. The only positive note is the very nice Phi Phi Island tour (organized by me).
As for the resort, a total disappointment.

As the hotel is located on an island, you always have to take a shuttle boat to get to Phuket. Moreover, upon arrival there is nothing for miles around. No explanation from the hotel (where to rent a scooter, taxi, shuttle, etc.). There is one boat per hour and you must book in advance and present a ticket for each trip. They always ask us when we will return, which is difficult to predict when we are on vacation. Perfect hotel for septuagenarians who want to do all inclusive, but absolutely not for families and young couples. You can't swim in the sea because of the tides, jellyfish, mud and dirty water. Everything is very expensive in this hotel (food, drinks, spa, excursions). No choice in the restaurant… no choice of ice cream either. They don't let us sit where we want for lunch, they absolutely want to seat us. They don't let us finish eating before they take us away, which is very oppressive. Lots of noise pollution due to work throughout the hotel. Bathroom in the room not clean at all No entertainment within the hotel. We get bored very quickly, which led us to spend days of more than 12 hours away from the complex. They clean the pool when there are still people inside and they ask us to push ourselves so as not to bother them…Given the number of positive comments the hotel seemed heavenly to us, but ultimately we became disillusioned after all. not 1 hour on site (in particular due to our arrival at the dock with our suitcases without the slightest explanation and a very long wait…). There is still more to say but do your own experience if you want to lose money.

We stayed at the village for 3 weeks, we had a fabulous time was 3 weeks at the resort too long, yes but only because there is so much to see in Phuket in hindsight we should have broken our stay up. However wehad a great time at this resort. The rooms are a little tired but they are in the process of refurbishing (not really any noise from this and our garden villa was very close), and still catching up following closure from covid. The cleaning team come in daily and did a great job, when you have been out for the day and come back to your air conditioned room that smells like you are in a spa (very lemony) was very welcoming. All the staff are very helpful, very welcoming and all have a big smile on their face, it’s infectious. The food was very good, lots of choice at breakfast I loved the fruit smoothies.. You can upgrade to all inclusive if you wish I think it worked out around £45 pp per day minimum of 3 days. The water taxi to the mainland is free and runs regularly, once on the pier there are lots of taxis to take you to your destination or you can book a taxi at reception. On getting up on our first day our pool was unusable the water was very cloudy, we reported this to reception and within 10 minutes the pool maintenance team arrived but all they did was take out the leaves, we had to escalate this and dealt with Hassan again the pool man arrived this time he cleaned the bottom of the pool and took out the leaves, on day 3 we spoke with Fon and Hassan we explained that the pool needed a chemical shock, which was done however it meant that the pool was again not going to be usable, to be fair they offered to move us we took a look at the alternative accommodation offered but villa 92 had a lovely space and sun on the garden in the afternoon so we took the decision to stay put and wait for the pool to clear/clean. On day 6 we could use the pool, we had no further pool issues and had a bucket of beers delivered by the management team for our patience which we appreciated. We had a few days round the main pool / beach whilst our pool was cleaning. My favourite part of the day was around 6pm where you can sit on the deck watching the waves and the sun go down. The resort may need a little updating but it’s clean has a great ambiance and seems to have a happy soul. The one thing that you need to bring is a big smile 😊 to reciprocate that of the people who work here. I would definitely recommend the village and will definitely come back.

It seems that you really embraced our unique location and super special staff and service. We aim to please all our guests all of the time, so it's wonderful to read you comments complimenting the team and service. We did have a small hiccup with you pool, which we were and are very sorry about. As you mention, we worked hard to rectify the problem and would again, like to thank you for your understanding. Its not often I write reviews ( infact this is my first one ) but I would like to warn others that there is currently significant ongoing building work adjacent the pool area ,beach front and lunch time restaurant .At the time of booking, we were not informed of this by either our tour operators ( TUI ) or by the Barcelo ,Coconut island ,if we had been, we would not have booked here.
We were given a free room upgrade away from some of the building noise ,however this holiday was about relaxing on the beach /by the pool and eating nice lunches / meals ,all of which were affected by constant building noise ( grinding ,cutting , hammer drills and nail guns ).

The rooms that haven't yet been refurbished are now very  tired  .Before our upgrade ,our room had a jacuzzi with its wiring in such a state of disrepair it could have lead to a fatal accident, yet it took 4 day for maintenance to repair (with mastic ).The heavy tropical rain shower head came off the first time it was used (due to corroded pipe work), hitting my wife in the face .

If you have any disability you should be aware that the lift doesn't work and has  obviously  not worked for some time .The wooden decking from reception down to the restaurants and pool areas is in a poor state of repair and dangerous in places .
At breakfast, there is often a lack of tables and a long queue for anything with eggs and coffee machines .

The Barcelo Coconut island is in a wonderful location with a fantastic beach area ( the sea unfortunately did not look to clean ) and immaculately maintained grounds . The whole resort is kept spotlessly clean , and the food is good with a lot of choice,   However in its current form, it falls well short of its 5 star rating .

As always, the thai staff / people were  wonderful,  cheerful , respectful , honest, and hardworking.

If you want a quiet relaxing day / holiday by the pool or beach, I would avoid the Barcelo Coconut Island until the refurbishment work has been completed.

I stayed for 4 nights and had very mixed feelings about the resort. First the good parts. The resort itself is beautiful and is in a stunning location. The housekeeping staff were excellent and restocked the mini bar and cleaned the room on a daily basis to an excellent standard. The cocktails on offer were very tasty and the hotel offers a pick up and drop off service to and from the rooms and other locations around the resort as well as a 12 hour boat service to and from the mainland.
Now for the parts which definitely could be improved. Granted I did arrive later than most, checking into around 19:30ish. I did not receive a welcome beverage upon check in and whilst I was checking in, the gentleman only clocked that I had the all inclusive package towards the end of the check in process which meant he had to go back and explain the all inclusive benefits. This is not the same check in process I saw other people receive. A similar issue at check out when I came to settle my final bill I asked if the 50% discount had been applied (as per the all inclusive package for items not with the red star). I was told that it had been. I asked the gentleman to double check as the bill didn’t look right, upon double checking he stated that I was correct and had to manually change the bill. I was not offered an invoice to state that I had paid the bill, I had to ask for this. He told me the bill still needed to be amended from there side and I stated that I wanted the invoice in case the hotel charged my credit card that was on file. He hand wrote on the invoice stating that I had paid.
Beware the all inclusive package as it is definitely NOT all inclusive. I understand that resorts sometimes have specialty restaurants which come at an extra charge but I have never been told to look for the red stars on the menus which are the food and beverages included in the all inclusive package. This is not something that is explained when you book. On the website when you book all inclusive it states all food and drink are included.
Some of the wait staff are very attentive but the majority are not, if you want another drink or food, 9 times out of 10 you would either need to get up and go to the bar yourself or flag the wait staff down. Which again is fine sometimes but it doesn’t scream 5* resort service.
When I tryed to book an excursion I was told I had to come back in the morning which was fine as it was late and there would be 2 departures an 8:30ish and an 11:45ish. I got up early had breakfast hoping to get onto the 8:30ish. I went to the excursion desk at 8am and was told it was too late to get onto the 8:30 and when I asked the guy to please check and call them I was told no but I could go on the 11:45, which I declined and booked my own excursion through ‘get your guide’ instead.
The drains in the room really smelled bad and there was a lot of construction going on around the hotel (main reception and one of the villas) which meant power tools could be heard all day around the resort, which ruins the overall atmosphere.
Overall to me this is not a 5* resort, or at least not at this point in time.

Our all inclusive packages are valid for two out of four of our restaurants and we are sorry to hear if this was not communicated to you clearly. Thank you also for your comments about the restaurant and our excursions and that the earlier boat was already fully booked on that day. Our team member should have alerted you about this in advance. This was a totally amazing experience, well beyond what we expected.

We booked ourselves, a two-bedroom beachfront pool villa. The price advertised was excellent, and to be honest, we were slightly doubtful that the quality would match what was advertised.

From the moment we arrived at the pier to the transfer to the hotel. We were amazed that everything surpassed expectations.

We had been upgraded from a two bedroom beachfront pool villa to a three bedroom beachfront private pool villa that was totally beautiful. Very rarely do we go on holiday and find somewhere nicer than our own home, but this was the case we loved it.

The interior of the villa was modern with a fully fitted kitchen, but also traditional with wooden floors throughout and Marble, bathrooms and shower rooms in total, three ensuite shower rooms One with a bath plus an additional toilet downstairs.

Mark and his team provide excellent service with a mixture of both Thai and Filipino staff, my wife is from the Philippines and enjoyed conversations with the team who really did look after us.

Covid was a real blow for the entire area, the hotel now is undergoing renovation in areas, but that said did not affect our stay in anyway.

The food and restaurants on site were excellent and the breakfast something to look forward to each morning.

A stroll down the beach was the Coconut Island seafood restaurant which was an excellent local restaurant. Also offering massage. Also make sure you try one of the floating restaurants just off the north pier the food again superb

I have attached some photographs for you to review, as very few online that actually showed the beach pool villas

Again, thank you, Mark and the team for an absolutely amazing 10 days stay with you.

In brief:
Stayed for 6 nights with partner and baby (who turned one during our stay) in one of the suites. We had an amazing holiday there and would highly recommend the Village at Coconut Island to anyone who will listen.

In detail:
The room was well appointed - huge luxurious bathtub, modern features, comfortable bed and black out blinds that were excellent for encouraging baby to sleep. The air conditioner was quiet and very effective. There was a cooktop and TV that seemed fine but we didn’t use at any point during our stay.

The pools were both lovely and refreshing but not so cold as to prevent hours of lounging in them. Both had shallow bits that made having baby in the water easy to manage. The waterslide were novel and although we only hopped on twice to try them they seemed very popular with kids. The ocean water is cloudy (not dirty) because it’s estuarine and great for a little float/swim. There are staff that tidy up the beach regularly and we never noticed any litter at all. Obviously, the waterfront is subject to tides so the water level varies throughout the day. Some other reviewers seem to not understand this concept! The colours of the ocean are beautiful and melt together with the sky for beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

The water taxi is quick and very regular. Easy to book with the main desk and they give you a little ticket to confirm your time slot. The ticket also clearly says which pier your boat from Phuket to Coconut Island will leave from (again this depends on tides!) as it might be the swanky, private one or the basic public one.

We opted for the all inclusive and felt it was good value - any items that weren’t included (like drinks in a young coconut) were discounted 50%. There was enough variety on the menus we didn’t get tired of anything and the food was really delicious! The massaman curry was a particular favourite. We never had an issue getting a table (or high chair) at the restaurants and service was prompt at all but the most busy times and even then all it took was a little wave at the bar to alert someone that you were ready to order.

Staff were all very friendly, particularly with our son, and even got to know our coffee orders and drink preferences! We hired one of their nannies (shout out to Daa!) for several days and our son seemed to have a great time with her and she even arranged a piece of birthday cake and a little gift for him!

The only negatives were that the sailcraft and bikes could have used a little tuning up, the steam room smelled a tad musty (they were still enjoyable but a bit rough around the edges) and occasionally it was hard to find a free sun lounge (but this seemed largely due to people “reserving” their party’s with towels hours before they intended to sit on them…)

Overall, we had a fabulous time and will helpfully get a chance to return!

Response from Mark Ashman, General Manager at Barcelo Coconut Island
Responded 2 Feb 2023
Thank you so very much for your incredible account of your stay with us. It makes the whole team so proud when we read such thorough, understanding reviews. One thing that really hit home was your appreciation of the beach and the sea. Sometimes people expect to a arrive at an island that looks like the Maldives, which we are not. However, I loved your comment about the changing colours of both the sea and the sky line. Having been here since the very first day when we started planning this resort, I equally find the changing colours and views fascinating every day!!! The whole team would like to sincerely thank you for your review. Mark and Team

Hi, the sea is not too rough. Boat trip is fine. However, at times of low tide, the resort opts to use smaller boats. The crossing is no more than 5-10mins.

I agree with Khalil, email the hotel and do it direct. We went with Luxury Escapes too and the all inclusive package is so worth the extra money. Enjoy (I am so jealous)

Hi Will, I can't comment on snorkelling part of your question. However, the boat to and from Phuket does not run 24hrs a day. I stayed on Coconut Island in October 2024, and unless they've changed the schedule, the boat was only available every hour from 6am until 12:30am. Recommend contacting the resort directly to confirm.
