Nestled in the Riviera Maya, The Grand Mayan at Vidanta is a resort that has received a spectrum of feedback from its visitors. While the resort is lauded for its immaculate grounds and vibrant, family-friendly atmosphere, guests have noted that despite the beautiful setting, the ocean views and dining options are limited. The pools, although varied, have been criticized for additional costs and being unheated.
Numerous travelers have reported noise disturbances across the resort, and while the rooms and public areas are generally clean, some guests encountered housekeeping oversights. The service quality appears inconsistent, with commendations for the friendly staff contrasted by complaints about disorganized shuttle and check-in processes. Furthermore, many guests feel that the resort's pricing for food, water, and activities does not offer good value, highlighting price increases over time.

First time using membership, sorry to hire you. We stayed in a suite 5 adults, one bathroom, no dryer, toaster, grill or hot water, fixed after reporting, TV without Netflix or platforms. We waited an hour to receive our luggage and it arrived wet. Consider that the distances are long and you have to wait for transportation inside the hotel where mosquitoes eat you, the only thing striking about the hotel is the pool because the facilities are not as good as an American party, less like Xcaret. Car rental is required to transport outside as there is not much to do and parking is $100 daily. Until you pay you add up to $300 of donation without asking, $58 of water and $86 of coffee that you have to cancel if you did not use and yes or yes you have to pay $33 of "sanitation" and $97.35 of "rooming tax" extras daily. All very friendly staff, both waiters, transporters, valet parking and receptionists. The room has cream, shampoo, soap, sponge and fret soap, blender, mini fridge, toaster, coffee maker and kitchenware. To cook you require filter for coffee, sugar/salt, oil, napkins, offered to buy in the boutique.

My husband and I decided to do this getaway 5 night vacation that I âwonâ at a live charity auction in November 2024 for our 14th wedding anniversary. We planned to just relax at the resort for all 4 days. The resort is very nice overall - I did originally have a bias when I heard it was a timeshare resort (being a current disgruntled Wyndham timeshare owner - inherited from parents, that has pushy sales tactics). Luckily, when the sales person first called me in the hotel room wanting to talk about offers/benefits, I shot them down very quickly and politely and they didnât persist or push. With that out of the way, we got to really enjoy the 200+ acre property. There are beautiful shaded boardwalk paths all over the resort so bring your comfy shoes. There are also shuttle stops throughout the resort if you donât want to walk. Tons of fun wildlife too - birds, monkeys, iguanas and super adorable coatis (related to raccoons). The pools were nice although the best pool (for adults) looked to be The Beach Club which was only for the Grand Luxxe and Grand Bliss guests. The main pool for the Grand Mayan was huge - three levels, lots of seating and reserved cabanas with comfortable lounge chairs. The cabanas are a great deal - you just need to buy $45 worth of food/drinks while using the cabana which is easily done. They also have happy hour at the pool from 12pm to 2pm which is buy one get one free. They had great margaritas (to be expected!). The food was very good overall too - the most amazing restaurant was Gong - the pan Asian restaurant on site. See my separate review of it! We also went to the Cirque du Soleil performance (Joya) which was entertaining. The venue outside of the Cirque building for drinks/food there was also really beautifully designed. Shuttle service from the resort is easily available over to the performance. We also did a Couples massage and I got a facial at the Brio spa which were both excellent. Highly recommend doing the circuit beforehand (dry/wet saunas, cold plunge, hot tub etc) - it really helps the body!! As for rooms, we were in Building 12 which was a bit of a hike to everything, but you wonât mind if you love walking. I suggest trying to stay in. Building 1 through 4 or Building 8 if you are able to choose. We had a standard room with one king bed but being a timeshare resort, they also have larger units (1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms). The room itself was very clean but nothing very special. The furniture looked a bit worn with scuffs, knicks, dents etc. The internal AC unit felt old and smelled a bit musty too - we had to keep it at 65 degrees the entire time (it never got that cold). The housekeeping staff was great - replaced towels every day and kept the room very clean. The resort overall was extremely clean too - you can tell the wonderful staff really takes pride in their resort. Everyone was extremely kind and friendly. Overall, definitely recommend this resort for couples and families!

It sounds like you had a wonderful experience at Vidanta Grand Luxxe for your 14th wedding anniversary! It's great that you were able to enjoy the resort's many amenities and take in all the beauty and wildlife that make it special. I'm glad to hear that the initial sales push was easy to handle and didn't overshadow your vacation. The pools, wildlife sightings, and unique food experiences, especially at Gong, really seem to have made your stay memorable. Your advice about room selection and the walkability of the resort is helpfulâit's good to know that certain buildings are more centrally located and easier to access. The spa treatments and circuit experience sound rejuvenating as well! Thanks for sharing such an extensive review. Your detailed description will definitely help other travelers looking to make the most of their visit to Vidanta Grand Luxxe.

From the moment we arrived, the resort was just WOW. Grand experience. Very safe and secure. Bellman put your luggage in a zipped up luggage cart and we are zipped off to the Grand Mayan lobby by shuttle that is the main transport around the large grounds of the resort. Check in was quick, weâre given wristbands that were our room keys. 5 star service from the moment we set foot in the resort. So many pool options including expansive main pool, Sanctuary pool and Infinity pool. You can tell the staff take pride in their jobs and keep the grounds pristine and always greet the guest with their hands to their hearts in greeting. Our suite was a quick 5 min walk in Grand Mayan 3 but can see that some suites are further away as the resort is so large. Our 2 bdrm suite had 2 full bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms with 2 jacuzzi tubs, and a plunge pool right on our balcony. We only had 4 people, but can sleep 12! Kitchen was stocked with plates, cutlery, pots and pan, microwave, toaster, coffee maker. The on site market had lots of staples such as cereal, milk, eggs, fruit and veggies, deli meats etc. As we came from Canada, we found the restaurant prices to be expensive due to exchange rate. Pizza was 450 pesos, entrees from 300-800 pesos. We took taxi to local supermarket in Playa del Carmen and cooked our meals while in resort.

We feel sorry that we didnât read Google reviews first, the hotel is a huge scam. 1. The old rooms without maintenance, we tried to use the shower and the jacuzzi and water came out with rust residue, besides that the jacuzzi was not useful, we complained at reception and yes they gave the attention but they took like 2 or 3 hours to solve everything, uncomfortable with the presence of the staff and the electrician who walked throughout the room, they are supposed to be things that should not happen. 2. The walls look like paper because you hear absolutely everything, from 5am we were woken by the footfall and the noise of the repairs of the floor above. 3. We are not new to visiting the Riviera Maya, we have been staying at the Majestic, Riu, TRS Coral, Reef Playacar, Dreams, Mia, BahĂa PrĂncipe Coba, Ocean Coral and Turquoise, The Explorean Cozumel, and we have never had such a terrible experience as those we had at this hotel, we feel that we waste our time and money, because they even charge the drinking water and coffee in the room, plus the prices are extremely inflated and for everything they charge extra charges. You no longer know what you can grab and what you canât, because they literally all charge. 3. When we arrived the controls of the tvs was unprogrammed and one did not serve, adding that the tvs are very old and a bathroom was covered, also in one of the bathrooms they forgot the cleaning material, there was a water puller and some mops so we had to talk to come and pick them up. 4. Not to mention, here seems like a trap, in other hotels they do offer packages and if you say no, ready, everything is there, but here is BULLYING, and rude when you do not accept, they behave very very rude and aggressive. 5. The spaces are not accessible to people with disabilities, as all distances are very long and the accesses narrow. 6. When we arrived at the hotel we were never told that there was a Christmas event, we were not explained about the app or anything, when we tried to book because we investigated it on our own, everything was already booked and full. 7. The only rescueable thing is the attention of the staff, they were very friendly.
These reviews definitely have to be put on all travel platforms, enough of being scamming people.

The room was old and had several issues that it took us 4 to 5 days to get them to understand what they needed to do, and we still had no hot water the day we left. just Lukewarm and we had to boil water to wash dishes since the is no dishwasher. The TV was actually burnt, and the plastic was bubbled up. They replaced it but it still did not work so I fixed it myself. Then I got electrocuted by the coffee machine while pouring water in it, so their GFCI did not work and trying to explain that to them was near impossible. Several of the sockets did not work and had to explain to the technicians what the problem was with them since they were just worm out. We called over ten times telling them we had no hot water in the sinks, but the shower was a little better except for the last day we had none. Then they charged us a resort fee of $150 even though we were members they said we made reservations through the wrong company but we only had one and the last person told us we DID make reservations though the correct company so we will have to cancel the charge. Then they charged us $10 a day for water reclamation that the area only charges $1.70 a day so they are over charging to put the rest in their own pockets, and they also charged Taxes for the room, then 100 pesos a day for parking which we knew nothing about. Then they had the nerve to charge us 300 pesos that we found out was them asking for a donation which I bet a lot of people don't even know they are getting it! So, they charged us over $300 that we being members were told that that would not happen, but they just laughed at me when I told them we will not be back. The cost of restaurants has doubled since last years is what the people go their every year told us. Their breakfast was $65 and have had much better at other places but we went to Sams and bought our food for the week with all the extreme prices their restaurant's. We actually had to buy coffee filters, salt and pepper, and also paper towels. This was actually more expensive than an all-inclusive that we actually went to one of our other resorts and paid $150 to stay there for the day since this place was so bad.

We traveled from Nov. 4th to the 11th and this is our 3rd time at this location as we have been members since 2006. We always enjoy ourselves with exception of the lengthy and pushy members presentation from here on out it will be a hard no we have all we want.
We have a suite with full kitchen , plunge pool and sleeps 4. This is the second year in a row going to Vidanta that we have chose not to go into town for groceries and use the onsite market . We did this both times because we justified it because the cost to go into town. Big mistake we have bought in town in the past . Onsite market no ground beef or chicken.
The shuttle into town is $8 a person one way and stops at 2 different locations in Playa del Carmen as I look back well worth it. We did end up going near the end of week to shop and have lunch we were going to take ferry to Cozumel but it was overcast that day.
The resort is beautiful but warning there is lots of walking. We were in building 4 with a beautiful view of all the shrubs and trees. The walk to the main pool was about 10 minutes passing a couple of smaller swimming locations along the way. We got lucky the resort was about a third full so you could sit anywhere. The beach was about 2 minutes from the pool so nice to do both and not have to go far.
The beach is nice but without water shoes difficult to get in and swim with all the rocks. And to couple of walkways they have into the water are closed and falling apart. If you want to snorkel you need to bring your own the resort doesn't offer them. There appeared to be plenty of chairs on the beach to lounge in .
After having problems with check in and out last year at Nuevo Vallarta last year I need to compliment the staff here with having no such issues this time. As always the people of Mexico always friendly , helpful and hard working. It also goes along way and makes their day to offer tip after services rendered I am a firm believer of that. The only issues we had were a couple of times with member shuttles especially when it was time to get to the shuttle to the airport.
Lastly I especially recommend going to Xel ha we have been 3 times to the all natural waterpark. In your cost of admission you can get transportation to and from the resort , all you can eat and drink at the park , mask , snorkel and fins towels and even the picture package which we did. There are additional activities offered but can be very costly .

Thank you for sharing such a comprehensive review of your recent visit to Vidanta! Your detailed insights will be helpful for future travelers. Your review provides a balanced perspective that covers both the positives and areas for improvement. While the resort had its high pointsâlike the beautiful accommodations, friendly staff, and great activitiesâthere are a few tips and warnings that future guests should take into account, such as the cost of off-site shopping and the condition of some beach walkways. Thank you again for sharing your experience; it will surely help others in making informed decisions for their own vacations!

When you arrive it looks like an airport, you have to go through their security system. Then you are greeted by an adorable perfume and the check inn employees are adorable. It's a shame that they immediately try to get you hooked on their vacation plan and if you agree to listen to them for a while as they promise, you'll lose more than one morning and they'll harass you with personal and double-meaning questions (a really awkward moment that I wouldn't wish on anyone). The buildings of the Complex are connected by a series of divine paths in the middle of the jungle, where you will encounter coatis, birds, iguanas, etc. It borders the JungalĂĄ water park, which is great, and the Cirque du Soleil, which is wonderful. You can also take carts that take you everywhere. It has a food store, quite simple, as well as clothing, gifts, etc. where you see everywhere a sign that if you break something, you take responsibility (too much). The rooms are comfortable. The cleaning service was fabulous (Leticia is a genius). The towels are given to you with a card system, very old-fashioned and impractical. The pools are nice but they have very short hours and are too low. People bring food and consume it inside, which is unhygienic. Lastly, but for us, a no less minor detail is that the beach is abandoned. If you dare to go into the sea, you will surely be traumatized by the amount of rocks. There are several rickety docks, dirty lounge chairs, and in the middle of the afternoon a tractor passes through the sand. ...this sector does not receive any type of care. Too much expense not to be able to go into the sea...

Of all the things I could critique for my week visit I canât get away from the drinking water. No greater sign of DISRESPECT could be paid to all the hotel patrons than for the Grand Mayan to charge what they do for drinking water. Itâs outrageous and unconscionable for a hotel to gouge its clientele on something so vital to our well being. Not only will I never return to this property but I will make it my mission to warn hundreds of my contacts to never step foot on this property. No hollow apologies by management staff will gloss over this vile and disrespectful policy of ripping off guests for H2O.
Shame on every last one of you bloodsuckers.

They started to call at 9am offering some kind of service later to find out is their timeshare presentation. If you donât say they donât give you 10% at checkout. They include a donation to their foundation on your bill automatically without making as optimal or even advertising what they do at their foundation then when you about to pay they tell you is optional but say itâs for the kids. I donât know how Mexico works but donât they use their own money to fund their foundation to get tax breaks? They also charge a resort fee of $150 to foreigners. And a daily fee for sanitation and room charge a total of about $8 daily. Isnât that what the resort fee is for? The walls of the room I stayed were paper thin we and the neighbors heard it all! The staff is nice and they all speak English. Kind people and the atmosphere is pleasant. Good pools and clean. On the ocean. The seafood is great but I would stay away from the farm raised salmon choose the local fish. Visit every pool. Take time to do some of the activities. And bring beach shoes since the rocks make it hard to get in the ocean but beach shoes will make it a better experience. They have a store for you to get snacks and drinks. Water is included and you can get some at the front desk. Purchase your tours with the vendors on the beach it will be way cheaper and you contribute to the local economy. Most vendors accept most forms of payments ours even had contactless pay but we suggest bring pesos and dollars. You can get pesos at the atm at the airport.

Dear DulceTzotzo, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent stay. We appreciate the kind words about our staff service, ItÂŽs nice to learn that you enjoyed our food options and pools. On the other hand, we regret that your stay was not as you were expecting and we use this communication with you to inform you that the extra fee is tax from the federal and local government. The donation is optional. This will be addressed by the appropriate areas as we always work hard to have clear communication with our honored guests and we look to please them by making sure they receive all the benefits they are expecting to enjoy during their vacation. Sadly I do not recommend this resort at all. If you hear the words Vidanta run away. This was our first time going to "Cancun" only to find out we were not in Cancun. The resort is beautiful but impossible to leave to enjoy Cancun, Playa del Carmen or even Puerto Morelos.
After traveling all day the last thing you want to do is be harassed by a time share salesperson. They actually told us "you owe us a presentation." I replied no we don't, we paid for our stay. That is between you and whoever you guys dealt with for this fundraiser. As soon as I got to my room I unplugged the phone so they couldn't get a hold of us.
The resort is beautiful, our room was small and older, could use a remodel. The hallways are loud, you can hear everyone talking as though they were in your room. We had construction in two rooms near us all day long. They nickel and dime you for everything. The water bottle in the room is not free, the coffee in the room, not free.
Their tram, shuttle system is annoying and a waste of a lot of vacation time. No inside trams will take you directly to what they call central lobby. You end up taking anywhere from 2-3 trams to get anywhere. Trying to leave the resort is a huge hassle. They make you believe the only way to get out is via one of their Taxis or shuttles. I wasn't going to pay $7 pp to take a shuttle into town or $21 to take one of their taxis. Thankfully I can speak the language and made friends with some of the employees. They explained that I can leave the grounds and take a van out front. These little vans will take you to Cancun, Playa del Carmen or anywhere else for less than $1.50 pp. I felt safer using public transportation than taking one of their taxis.
Food in this resort is expensive and mediocre. First night we were exhausted after our long travels so we ate at one of their restaurants. I ordered 2 tacos, hubby ordered what was promised to be fajitas and a bottle of water was $46. Taco tortillas were hard and stale, husband's so called fajitas were some cheap steak full of fat and nerves.
When you check out make sure you go over your bill. They tack on "donations" that attribute to nothing. We challenged them on those charges and they removed them.
Their profit margin was more important than providing good service. I will never stay at a Vidanta resort again.

There is a store at the resort where you can purchase beer. The cost turns out to be the same once you pay for a cab to and from town plus youâll be taking time away from being at the resort just to go to town for beer.
If you can by your beer once you land and before you get to the resort.
There are more places to choose from in the El Hijo Prodigo area.
