3 reasons why I stay at Hotel The Racha again again again
Super warm hospitality.😊 Always a warm welcome home.😊
I was there for 10 nights. There’s some magic to this hotel, the vibes are so good, you got a semi-private beach it’s one of the most beautiful beach I have visit in Thailand. The breakfast is awesome, the staff really giving me very positive and good vibes and that the reason why I’m back here over and over again. So, I’ll share my secret with you.
It's a huge swimming pool, a semi-private beach as I defined it, and the sunset view. When you go to "The Sunset" restaurant for dinner, the sunset view is something that you want to always come back for. From my cottage I see the sea, it's all very nice and of high privacy and quality, the surroundings is so clean and well maintained, is something that you want to come back to as well. Then the second reason is the service. It’s the staff I think there are very low turnover at the property. All the staff are very helpful and friendly to me - it feels like a second family to me🙏 Every time I come back they greet me welcome home. They know I’ve been there before you know. I know the staff and it’s so friendly you just know you really feel like you’re coming home, and you want to be back. The third reason is something that may be a little bit interesting is their restaurants, which are so comprehensive, the food here is so excellent good.
So, you know the staff, the view of the beach and you know the food there is all fantastic.
This is the reasons why I come back again again again😊 ….

The Racha is a beautiful resort on Racha Island, a thirty minute speed boat ride from Phuket.
In a superbly tropical setting, The Racha boasts a family pool and an adults only pool. They are very useful when ocean swimming conditions are poor.
It has three restaurants, The Sunset Restaurant, Earth Cafe and the Fire Grill Restaurant. We favoured the Sunset Restaurant, where the meals were varied and delicious and reasonably priced. The Fire Grill is a little more up market and accordingly priced. A big thank you to Yuyi the restaurant manager, who always seemed to be busy looking after his guests. We also appreciated the services of Jeab in the beach bar and Theresa and Elisabet in dining.
Various water sports are available, with equipment hire at additional cost.
As we had arrived in the midst of the monsoon season, swimming at Racha's beach was difficult, owing to the waves, undertow and rubbish in the water. A regular beach cleaning ritual was conducted by the resort.
We had a private Grand Deluxe Villa with garden view. Room decor was minimalistic but the overall white theme seemed to work well. The dual wash basins were a bonus.
The Anumba Spa provides high quality massages, befitting a five star resort.
The resort experiences visits from some of the local fauna, including a peacock, monitor lizard, bats and thousands of butterflies.
The housekeeping staff were wonderful, Korn and Mo in particular. Bed linen was superb. An evening turn down service is provided. Small gifts appeared, which included lovely printed depictions of Racha Island birds and butterflies.
The resort is very popular with Asian guests, who comprised the majority.
There were a few negatives, however.
Signage was poor.
We were given no information regarding the island shuttle service, which we learned about later.
Access to Racha is by speed boat from Phuket's Chalong Pier. The drop from the pier into the boat is excessive, making boarding quite difficult, even dangerous.
There is no internal buggy service, which is provided by many resorts in Thailand.
Overall, we would recommend The Racha for those seeking a relaxing break away from the usual Phuket destinations.

We stayed at the Racha for a few days on our honeymoon and it was the most perfect way to end the adventure. Not exactly the cheapest; but you definitely get what you’re paying for with the whole experience tailored to your enjoyment.

The entire resort was clearly designed by someone who has the customer experience at heart, and it shows in all the little details down to the location of the switches in the rooms and the amenities available (like insect repellent and a choice of pillows!). The customer service was attentive at all times - it often seems like there are more staff than guests - and we were made to feel super welcome by all the staff, with too many standouts to name!

Given the scale of the resort, everything is well maintained, which is no mean feat considering the island is in the middle of the ocean and a 45min boat ride from the mainland, so it is entirely off-grid and reliant on its own infrastructure. We have heard the many eco credentials of the place and it seems to bear out in practice! The boat ride was perhaps the least pleasant bit of the journey, but we came in during inclement weather so that’s a low price to pay for the secluded and brilliant beaches and bays you get to snorkel at (and equipment is provided free for your use), with beautiful fish and coral aplenty! Was a bit of a trek to get to some of the bays but apparently the resort provides transport out at certain times in the day, which we did not avail ourselves of because we borrowed bikes from them instead (though trails were mostly unpaved..).

And lastly the food was unexpectedly good - one expects a decent standard of food from a good hotel, but I would not be disappointed if I was served food of this quality from the best restaurants in SEA - the wok hei of their stir fries and flavours in their curries, but also the quality of cooking of the western food, was truly impressive.

My family just completed a 3 nights stay at this beautiful resort. The service was impeccable. From the start of the journey at Chalong pier to the end of at Chalong pier, everything was taken care of. Snacks and drinks at the Chalong pier lounge is a nice gesture. We had a smooth ride to the island on the resort speedboat, which is very clean.
The service at the resort was impeccable. From our check-in to check-out and our numerous request for ice, everything was fast and done with a smile.
Stayed in a 2 bedroom villa. The pool is superb clean and there was no smell of any chemicals after our daily dip in the afternoons and night. The beach is clean and the waters are clear, very refreshing to take a dip in the sea in the late afternoon before finishing with a beer at the lounge to watch the sunset.
Breakfast has a wonderful spread and the sparkling wine is a nice touch.
We had Thai food for all our meals in the hotel and no regrets in staying within the hotel. The price is reasonable considering the remote location.
Special thanks to Yuyi from F & B. You could see him busy taking orders, serving food and yet giving you the attention whenever needed. Ensuring that all his guests are well taken care of. Som is another service personnel who always greet you with a big smile.
All said, from the GM to all the staff, we all feel very welcome.
The AV ride, sea sports, snorkeling, spa are all wonderful memories of the resort,
It is our first trip and will certainly not be the last.
Thank you for GEM (going the extra mile) to make our stay memorable.
Another aspect that was important to us is that we do feel very safe on the island. It is a remote location and you do not get many day trippers crowding the place.
Another kudo to the Driver who has pick up our other guest the following day. The immigration queue was long and he only has 45 mins to get her to the pier. He had done a check with us to confirm the guest was arriving and whisk her off to the Chalong pier to make sure that she gets onto the last speedboat to the island.

The review has been edited because... The hotel management questioned my stay.

The hotel has an excellent location. Sandy shore, gentle entrance to the sea. The staff is friendly, especially in the restaurant and beach bar. The menu for breakfast and dinner is modest, but the food is delicious.
There are questions regarding transfer to the island: for some reason, it took TWO HOURS to transport our luggage from the pier to our room (a distance of two kilometers). All this time the suitcases were standing in the sun; they arrived in the room very hot both outside and inside. Of course, all the medicines that were inside had spoiled.
Now tourists come to the hotel for 1 - 2 days to take photos for Instagram, so there is no interest in guests. There is no evening entertainment...at all, not even live music, a children's club, or playgrounds. The pool on the beach and one restaurant are closed; the jacuzzi area in the garden pool is not open.
The rooms are bright, spacious, but there are many shortcomings, the main one is poor cleaning: if you drip juice on the table, be sure that this stain will accompany you throughout your vacation. The doors to the balcony do not close, the plaster is falling off in places, the thermostat in the pool does not work, etc.
The hotel has an application that has a chat where you can leave a request: bring something, fix it, find out. It’s a pity that no one will pay attention to your messages; they’ll read them, but won’t respond and won’t do anything.
One could turn a blind eye to all this if it were not for the status and price of 5.
What I would like to draw your attention to is the dirty beach. And the problem is not even the tides and daytime tourists, but the lack of cleaning in general. I’ll immediately comment on the hotel’s possible excuses: 1. The beach is ALWAYS dirty. And at six in the morning (if it had been cleaned in the morning, then at 07, 08 in the morning there would simply be no garbage), and at lunchtime, and in the evening; 2. There was no storm, there are also few excursions to this beach in the summer; 3. During our week of stay, we did not see ANY employee cleaning the beach (after the review, the beach was cleaned, but only large garbage and pieces of fuel oil). The same bottles, bags and RAZORS that were lying around yesterday and the day before are lying around! Perhaps once a month or a year the beach is cleaned, since there is a huge pile of garbage in the corner part of the bay.

Firstly, this is not an awful hotel but neither is it any longer a 5 star resort.

The breakfast is very good as are the two pools.

However, we had to move rooms twice in 5 days (problems with aircon) the food in the main restaurant was very poor and one of the three restaurants was closed during our entire 5 night stay. We spoke to other guests who had worse experiences than us and we have stayed at other fabulous 5 star hotels in various parts of Thailand.

I am sure that the hotel will argue Covid lockdowns have caused all their problems but the reality is driven by an apparent lack of investment over a number of years resulting in rooms looking very tired (e.g. broken and/or rusting outside showers., poor quality repairs to decorations, unreliable wifi etc. This is clearly putting a lot of pressure on the staff most of whom are trying their hardest to 'paper over the cracks' but the resulting stress is apparent. In particular Fa and Hom were great in helping resolve some of our problems.

During our entire visit the bay in front of the hotel was effectively off limits due to box jellyfish. Whilst this is clearly out of the control of the hotel, one of the main reasons anyone visits is the watersports and the hotel did nothing to mitigate the impact on guests.

It is in a beautiful location with staff who try very hard but it needs some serious money spending on it to justify the room rates.

Dear Witchford-traveller, Thank you for taking the time to post your review on Tripadvisor following your recent stay with us. I am sorry to read of your experience and for having fallen short of your expectations. Please accept my sincerest apologies. Your comments have highlighted areas we had not delivered, and we are looking into each with our respective leaders. I would appreciate it if you could reach out to me at gm@theracha.com to share the villa you had stayed in so that we can conduct a more thorough investigation. We would like to inform you that we have just completed a major upgrade of the Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the resort using fibreoptic links and have worked with our telco to improve the internet bandwidth as well from this island to the mainland. Although we did not sight any Box Jellyfish in our bay at Racha (and have not sighted any thus far), we were required by the provincial authorities to inform all guests of this matter as there were some cases of tourists being stung by jellyfish on some beaches in Phuket. Allow me to clarify your comment about a lack of investment over the past few years. It is no secret that the past 3 years of the pandemic have been the hardest on all tourism-related businesses. Despite this, the owners of The Racha invested heavily throughout the pandemic to protect our most valuable assets – which is our people. Despite the lockdowns and almost zero occupancy during certain months, The Racha kept all our staff employed and on payroll throughout. And we are happy to see many of our return guests recognize the familiar faces of our team members. We also took the opportunity during the past 2 years to upgrade many areas of the resort (our sea-wall upper beach area, all new timber decks, upgraded the water treatment plant and many other areas around the resort). We do apologize for the aircon breakdowns you encountered during your stay, but we have found that mechanical equipment that have not been used much during the lockdown are prone to failure and we are in the process of upgrading all this equipment. Work on keeping the villas looking fresh and up to our brand standards is also ongoing and one of our top priorities. It has been less than 100 days since we turned the corner exiting the worst pandemic of this century, and I assure you that The Racha is committed to delivering the brand standards and service levels that we have come to be well known for. Please let us know if you plan to return; we will be happy to assist with the arrangements. Yours sincerely, Devan Bhaskaran

Thé Racha is truly living in paradise
At their office near the chalong pier you will be welcomed and pampered
You even choose the scent of your shower and shampoo
You will be taken to the island by speedboat
The island is small, no roads, only a small road next to the hotel complex, further paved with sand
The beach is pure white and the sea is deep blue
The hotel has everything to offer
Your bungalow rooms are top-notch with a terrace with lounge set and a beautifully screened outdoor shower in your bathroom where everything is available
As an extra, you get a beautiful sunset every evening
Furthermore, it really is a paradise

We stayed 4 nights on Racha Island in January and had an enjoyable stay.
Transfer over was efficient and straightforward, lounge in Chalong Bay was good where you check in. Was surprised on arrival to the island to see so many boats and day trippers in the bay and on the beach - dozens of boats and hundreds of people (you don’t see these in the promo pictures obviously). It took away from the arrival experience but there is not much the resort can do about that. If you want to enjoy the beach you really need to go before 10am and after 4pm.
We stayed in a Junior Pool suite which was a great size and well fitted out. Not the greatest pool and a little unappealing but still usable. Biggest issue was aircon in the main living room was not working well. On the second day we had to say something and they sent someone around to look at it that night. Said he’d made some adjustments and it should be ok….unfortunately not. Next day after some back and forward we were moved to a Grand Deluxe Pool room which was very nice. It also had some aircon issues but were promptly sorted out. The staff were very good about it all.
Overall the staff were lovely, spa was really nice and the food was great (didn’t have a bad meal). Location and environment is great, very relaxing and quiet (away from the beach during the day). Rooms are getting a little tired and in need of some maintenance/replacements but overall was still reasonable value for money. Lots of kids when we were there and the staff had trouble keeping the Adults pool just for adults so maybe not the greatest if you are looking for that romantic getaway.

On the whole our stay was pretty good. The 2 bedroom sea view villa is simply amazing and the beach is stunning. But this resort is very expensive so we would have expected something more service-wise and food-wise.
Cleanliness of the room should be improved, most staff don't speak and don’t understand English, wine list has very few options, it was my birthday and I didn't receive any special gift (like a bottle in my villa nor a special arranegment of the table for breakfast nor anything else).
I have to mention that gluten free waffles and gluten free pizza were very good,
I have really appreciated how they take care of the cats.

We are a family of 5 and stayed in a 2-bedroom Grand Pool Suit at The Racha for 2 nights in January. The resort is amazing in a beautiful location. Quite secluded and away from the crowds which is nice. Staff were very friendly and supportive from the minute we arrived at the Lounge at Chalong and throughout our stay. The Grand Pool suite was amazing with a beautiful infinity pool which went down well with the kids (11-16 year olds). Beds were super comfortable and great bathroom facilities.

The resorts offers a lot of activities, we did a 2 hr snorkeling trip and the guys at the activity center and our guide were great. Beach at the resort is beautiful, white powdered sand and the communal pools good too.

I must also commend the breakfast with its variety of options, probably one of the better ones I’ve had in Thailand over the years.

The resort were also very helpful in organizing transport tickets to the next stop on our holiday, Koh Phi Phi.

There are some areas of improvements though. The Earth cafe was in general a bit underwhelming both in terms of service and quality. First night the service was slow the second night it was very slow, it took over 1 hour from we ordered until we received our meals and I could see others around us getting the food in half the time or less and the restaurant was only half full. Something must have happened with our order as it wasn’t a complex one. Once we got our food there wasn’t a real explanation or a proper apology. A portion of rice which we never received still appeared on the bill and again no real apology. I think there are significant room for improvement at the restaurant. The staff seemed tense not sure why. They could defiantly benefit from more hospitality training to be more attentive.

Overall the food at the Earth Cafe was average in terms of flavors and seasoning I would have expected more from a 5 star resort. I had better more flavorful food from a street hawker stall.

Another issue we experienced was the communicating with the resort via email pre arrival, very delayed and when they did respond they didn’t really seem to answer questions asked regarding booking and confirming transportation to Chalong and boat transfer. I emailed 4 times to get this organized, and ended up having to call the morning of our arrival to confirm and then being told that only boat transfer was organized and that I had to organize land transfer myself. When arriving at the Racha Lounge I was the told that the land transfer was organized for us which was strange as we never got a confirmation nor saw any transport at our location pick up.

Overall a great resort but room for improvements. Would we stay here again, yes but I think 2 or possibly 3 nights would be the enough for an active family like us who like to do and experience different things and locations.

I don’t recall the exact amount for the menu, except that our bill for food and drink for 7 people for 5 days was way less than we were expecting, bearing in mind we had cocktails and bottles of wine every day at dinner. The view from the outdoor lounge, on the seashore is absolutely spectacular at sunset. It’s worth a trip just for that alone. Stunning.

The Racha have their own transfer boat. It runs daily I believe and leaves Phuket at 13:00 from the Pier. They also have their own departure lounge there. Suspect they will contact you nearer the time as it is still quite a long time before you go to make arrangements
