Amazing experience! Excellence Resort Playa Mujeres is incredible. Staff is top tier, friendly and professional. Favorite restaurant was Agave, food was delicious. There Burlesque show is phenomenal. We’re already planning our next trip to Excellence Resort Playa Mujeres.

Hotel's Favourite
Just finished a 5 night stay in a rooftop terrace with excellence club, building 8 Room: we loved it. The room was clean in great co condition. We didn’t use the roof top as much as we thought but it was a nice place to relax later in the afternoon. I’m not sure we would pay the extra again for the RTT but it was great to have. The bed was very comfy compared to other Mexican resorts Grounds and pools: absolutely gorgeous, clean and well manicured. Zero complaints. We didn’t spend a ton of time on the beach but there was some seaweed but nothing excessive. Food: I am by no means a foodie and can be picky sometimes but we loved the food. Flavor market was probably our favorite. The meat and cheese board was perfect. We had agave our last full night and it did not disappoint. I had chicken flautas and wife had fajitas. Both had great flavor. Other restaurants we hit up were, spice, magna, lobster house. For lunch we did pizza multiple times by the main pool and it was delicious. Las olas had great food and speedy service for a snack by the pool Drinks: we drank way too many! I drank a lot of mimosas and icebergs that were all tasty. Wife had a lot of mojitos. We had no issue with them not being strong enough. Spa: did the hydro therapy (kinda different but kinda fun) also had a 70 minute couples massage that was perfect. No complaints except maybe the price lol Service: by far the best we have ever had at an all inclusive. Drinks constantly being brought to us, rarely had to actually go to the bar. All very friendly and happy to help. Only real negatives: had to go to second choices for dinner a few times because we didn’t double check what nights they were closed. No biggie. Steaks at all inclusive always disappoint compared to us steak houses. Not a huge deal as I expected that going in. Just don’t get your hopes up. We have done all inclusive 5-6 times previously including sandals. In our opinion it blew sandals out of the water from top to bottom. We would definitely book again

My wife and I just got back from XPM the day before Thanksgiving. This was our 6th visit here and our 9th to other Excellence resorts. This stay was not as good as our last few stays. It was not “Excellente” but was a good stay. The Property, as always, was beautiful and well groomed. Amazing Property!! Below are my Pros and Cons from our stay. We already have June 2023 booked and will be back for our Anniversary and our Birthdays. But my eyebrow is raised on some changes or lack of customer service we experienced from our previous stays. We spoke with numerous guests that have stayed there 5, all the way up to 22 times and they felt the same way. I am hoping the almighty dollar is not making these changes happen. All my below Pros and Cons are my opinion. Pros: • The Resort is beautiful and amazing how well all areas are kept up and clean. • The food was very good. I feel on this last trip the food was better than all the other stays we had. They have a new item on the Magna menu. If you are EC guest and eat at this restaurant, the Tomahawk Steak was amazing …Yummy • The staff was very friendly when we encountered them. All would say hello and acknowledge you. Loved this. • One of the reasons we keep coming back to XPM is because Monica Romero-She is one of reasons we return. She is so nice and is what I consider when I think XPM. She is a HUGE asset to XPM. Do not lose her! Can’t wait to see her again in June. • Florel- (EC Beach Waiter). He is a great guy to see every day on the EC Beach and he knew exactly what we drank each morning. Always very cheerful and fun to see each day. Big asset to XPM as well. • Julio Aguilar (Pool Concierge)-He was a delight and was always fun to be around. • Victor (EC Beach/ 8B Concierge) -Loved seeing Victor each morning when arriving at the EC Beach and our swim up. He always recognized me by name and was very accommodating in anything we asked for. Very Personable and loved seeing him each morning Big asset to XPM and another reason why we will come back. • Martha (Waitress at Cielo Bar) -Always on point with drinks and was very nice. • Heydi (Gin Station)-Loved her smile and was very nice whenever we saw her. Hope she does not leave XPM. • Of course, the infamous Caesar. The man, the myth, the legend. Always liked watching his bartending schools in the evening. Drinks each night at Martini bar before dinner were always nice. • Rubisel (EC 9B Concierge) Nice guy to talk with when we first arrived. • Alan- (Magna breakfast Server)-Very energetic and was always a pleasure to have him as our waiter when eating breakfast in Magna. • Eric-(Water Volleyball) -He was new from the last time we were there last June. He was a nice guy to play water volleyball with. • Yessica-Loved the name and saw her all over the resort in different areas. She was very friendly and had a great smile. Made us feel welcomed every time we saw her. • • Itzcaslly- (EC Concierge) After we had some hiccups at check in, she came to us and asked how our stay was afterwards. She made every effort to help us and seemed genuinely concerned about our stay. This meant a lot and that is what XPM is about with their guests. Thanks for all you did for us. All the employees we came into contact with were very nice but the above are the ones that stood out to us. Cons: The vibe at the resort was not the same as it has been over our last stays. Seems to be swinging in a different direction from couples and upper scale resort. I am hoping this is just temporary. I spoke with many people at the resort, and they felt the same thing we felt during their stay. • The crowd is getting younger and a lot larger groups are staying at the resort. I loved how XPM used to cater to Couples and was a relaxing resort without large groups drinking likes it Spring Break. (Weddings, I am not speaking of) but the groups we saw during our stay were there to party and drink as much as possible. I witnessed drinking games at the Martini Bar one night. Not the resort for this. • If the resort starts to cater to large groups, they will definitely start to lose “XPM Addicts” that have stayed there over the years. To think some of these “party” guests will come one time and never come back and repeat guests over the years of stays (We were at XPM 3 times last year) we go to other resorts that cater to the couples and adult non-Spring Break guests! • This is not really a con but there are a lot of new staff members. It will take time for the new staff to get to know the resort and the XPM expectations that make XPM 5 stars. The reason why I wrote this is because I felt we did not get that “Welcome Back” vibe like we have from our past stays. • We had to room change on our second day because we did not get the room we requested. I know it was a request, but we have stayed in a certain area the last 4 times. Not a fan of the wanting to get our new room by 4pm either. Check out of a room is noon. It should not take 4 hours to clean a room. When I asked the EC Concierge about this, I was told new check in guest come before room changes (?). That is not the way it should be. • Some may see this as being entitled but I call this as being earned from past stays and the little things that add up to make your stay “Excellente”. No in room towel art. (and yes, I know that is extra based on the housekeeper, but we have always had at least one day of something special to come back to after being on the beach all day (and this is staying in an EC room) First time we didn’t get a cheese tray. (As a diamond member we were supposed to get this). I even emailed the resort in advance about this. The wife loves a nice cheese tray. No Moet champagne either. • Let’s talk about the new Dress Code-I know people are on vacation and the “What people wear should not bother you and I am on vacation” people will think I am wrong for commenting on the dress code. The sight of people having dinner in a restaurant with backwards baseball caps, t-shirts and shorts does not make me feel like I am at a 5-star resort. I do miss seeing everyone dressing up for dinner and having a nice night out. But I see catering to the more relaxed times is being catered to. This Definitely takes away from the 5-star atmosphere in my opinion. The little things are what make XPM the resort we all love and once you get used to the little things they add to your stay. Hope we start to see these little extras happen again. If the large groups keep getting bigger and louder and the resort becomes “Spring Break time”, we will have to venture out to find another couples /Adult relaxing resort. Many other guests I talked with will do the same. I hope XPM will listen to all past guest feedback and take everyone’s feedback seriously. The guests that come one time and party like its Spring Break are not the ones that love this resort as their second “Home”. Would be a shame to have to find another “Home”. But XPM is still our second “Home” and can’t wait to be back in June. Me encanta XPM y gracias a todos por su arduo trabajo. ¡Hasta que volvamos en junio de 2023!

Just returned from our third visit, our first time back since COVID. The resort, service, food, everything was as wonderful as we remembered. There are so many staff that we want to thank for making our visit spectacular. First of all, Nelson Kalixto, Food and Beverage Manager. If we could adopt Nelson we would! He is always present in all restaurants, always checking on guests and always so kind. We enjoyed several lovely conversations with him. My husband is a senior executive with our provincial tourism system and he and Nelson enjoyed great conversations about service quality. Noemi is phenomenal as well. As a new restaurant captain she is so very lovely and knowledgeable. On our second night, the lovely Marvin, restaurant captain at Chez Isabelle provided us with a lovely private dining room in the “Wine Cellar”. This is typically reserved in advance by guests who pay extra for an expensive bottle of wine! We had such a special evening! We were totally blown away by the new restaurant captain at Magna, Alejandro. He actually had “Trainee” on his name tag which shocked me. This sweet, warm gentleman moves around that restaurant ensuring all guests have what they need and checks in with them to ensure everything is fine. After eating at Magna on our third night, we both commented on how good he is at his job. The next evening, while sitting at the bar which looks into the restaurant, we observed him using these excellent skills again. I approached him and told him that the resort was lucky to have him. He was so sweet, humble and appreciative. He approached me the next evening, thanked me again and told me that my comment meant so much to him that he had gone home and told his wife. And then there is Jorge, the bartender at Magna, my husbands good amigo. Jorge is so good at his job. He knows your drink of choice and pours it as you walk in. He is funny, warm, kind and entertaining. EPM would not be the same without him. Thank you to Moses, our bar waiter on the beach for the excellent service and being so entertaining (singing “Please don’t go” if we left the beach). Floricel was on the other side of the Club beach but always so friendly. The one time we did go to his side after a short rainfall, the concierge had stepped away so Floricel went out of his way to make up our beach bed! Several people commented to us on his service. Elias and Rubi, our beach concierges were also great. We can’t wait for our next visit!

Heads up, this will be a long one. My wife and I stayed at EPM in November 2022 for 7 nights (Sat - Sat prior to Thanksgiving.) The weather was fantastic, aside from one day, and the beach was very nice. Overall, I'd give this resort an 8/10. I'll break it down below why! THE EXCELLENT (Why you want to go here: The people. Honestly, if it weren't for the people, my overall score would drop probably a full point or two. See below in "the bad" about Itzel for why. Overall, the entire staff was genuinely support courteous, but several people went above and beyond. I could list a LOT of people but I want to give a few shoutouts: 1. Gustavo C. - Beach/Poolside Waiter - Gustavo is a once in a lifetime kind of person. He's friendly, quick, honest to a fault, and a great waiter! He spent a while with me one day (the beach was empty, EPM managers!) just chatting and we got to know each other a lot better. Long story short, I came away with a friend, not just a waiter and a guest. Find Gustavo on your trip to EPM and tell him William says hi! 2. Itzel - Excellence Club Manager - Itzel greeted us when we first got there and when I posted a "medium" answer to their check in survey, she got right to business. She found us a new room to stay in, asked about my wife later in our trip (my wife got sick,) and even checked in with us during dinner one night just to say hi and make sure we were taken care of. Top tier. 3. Reyes - Magna Restaurant Waiter - SO personable! Reyes is a great waiter that will go above and beyond to make your normal meal excellent. 4. Floricel - Beach Waiter - Floricel was waiting on at least 50 people the day I met him and memorized my name and my wife's name instantly. He was constantly checking on people, chatting, and just doing a great job. 5. Victor - Excellence Club Beach Concierge - Another friendly person, with a great attitude and the drive to help others. Excellent! I know a lot of the above says "friendly" and yes, the people who work here ARE paid to be friendly. However, there's "paid to be friendly" and genuinely nice people. Every person I've listed here made me feel like they weren't being nice because they were paid to, but because they genuinely care. Go for the resort. Return for the people. That's why we will will be going back, for sure. THE GOOD: 1. The food here is fantastic. I've stayed at a few all inclusive resorts and this one is easily the top of the list for food. The room service menu is top-tier. If you can, it's DEFINITELY worth it to spring for the "Excellence club" upgrade. Aside from better liquor, a private bar, and private beaches you get access to the Magna restaurant. You want access to the Magna Restaurant. Look at other reviews about the tomahawk steak. Ask for Daniel in the morning and Reyes in the evening. 2. The shows!! The FIRE SHOW was amazing. It was so good, I wouldn't have been upset if I'd had to pay extra for it. There were silent parties, and violinists, and on and on. They really fill your evening with things to do. 3. The resort is in excellent shape. While we were there, they were re-doing the Miile Spa (which was sad because we couldn't use it,) repainting several spots of the buildings, and even stripped and re-finished one of the bridges. This resort will always be clean and fresh. 4. The beach is so nice! Get up early (I woke up between 5:30-6:30 each day) and get a bed on the beach or next to the pool. You won't want to or need to move anywhere the rest of the day. *******This next section has a disclaimer: The things that bothered my wife and I the most may not bother you at all. We had BIG issues with 2 things, but one was (mostly) resolved while we were there and the other... well, decide for yourself.******* THE UGLY (for us): 1. The noise. *sigh* EPM has reviews ALL OVER the internet about how relaxing it is. The website looks like a tropical spot for couples to come, sleep, and just enjoy. Sometimes it feels like that... a lot of the time it does not. Daytime noise - Starting around 10AM, the main pool turns into the party zone. This would be fine except for two things: (1) There are two great restaurants with no walls floating over the pool. This is such a scenic, excellent place to eat lunch and look out over the beach... except you can't hear the beach. Also, whoever was singing country while we were there couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. (2) If you are in a room in building 8 (can't speak for the other buildings) and you want to take a daytime nap or you're not feeling well and want some rest... good luck Evening noise - The shows!! They're SO good! They're also SOOOO LOUD!! And they go on until 10:30-11 PM. ***Here's the kicker to all of this - When we got our day 1 survey on how things were going, I mentioned this. Itzel contacted us the next morning and worked with us to change into a different room in a different building. It helped A TON... except for then we were subject to wedding parties from 7-9PM. The point is, if you're looking for a restful place... this may not be it. However, ASK FOR A QUIET ROOM. (3) The people. This place is supposed to be a couples resort. According to MANY people I talked to, it use to be one! Now, there place is crowded with groups of 8, 10, 15+ people and they are LOUD. 2. The in-suite bathroom. So, again, this may just be my wife and I. However, the door to the in suite bathroom (in the junior suite) has a foot above and below it with nothing there. It's also only frosted in the middle 60% of the door. So, you can see and HEAR EVERYTHING if you're in the room. My wife and I basically would politely ask each other "Do you mind stepping out to the balcony?" when we needed to do business. Who the heck designed these things?! THE BAD (but not that bad) 1. The cost of medication! We had to get some Tylenol (very small bottle) and some diarreha medication while we were there. Cost $50. Before you say "well you should have brought tylenol" - I did, just not enough. As I said, my wife got very sick and we had to buy more. 2. The chairs, specifically at the Indian restaurant, were SO COMPACT. I'm not a huge guy - about 230 but medium built (not fat, not fit) and I was very uncomfortable there. Anyone with good sized hips would have been miserable. ----- OK, I know that was a lot of "bads" to give it such a high rating. But seriously, if you can get past the "ugly" this place is probably a 9/10 or better. Some of the problems are specific to my wife and I, and we recognize that. All that being said - if you're looking for an Excellent resort, you've found it. Just be aware that you might want to bring some earplugs - for multiple reasons. Last thing - don't mind Gus the Goose. He likes to photobomb.

Excellent experience at the Excellence Playa Mujeres. Very friendly and communicative staff from front desk, bar service, and even gardeners. Enjoyed the various types of restaurants on-site and glad to spend our honeymoon here. Highly recommend to download their app as it provides important details: site map, restaurant hours, restaurant menus, daily itinerary of activities, etc.

This was our 3rd and last visit to XPM. Having booked originally in 2019 and having to cancel 3 years in a row due to Covid we were really looking forward to finally getting back. The hotel is obviously struggling to find its feet post covid, no welcome at the door on arrival, no nice cooling drink or towel. Left hanging in the reception for ages to check-in. We were 2 couples and had booked 2 rooms, requesting in the same as a family. But we were put in 2 separate blocks on asking said could be moved maybe tomorrow, our room in block 7 overlooked the evening outside entertainment area which was very noisy every night. We were also next door to the staff room for the Spa and were woken up every morning just after 6am by the noise from the room. Not what you expect from a supposedly 5* hotel. The room should not be used but left as a buffer from the next room. The staff in the restaurants and around the pool are run off their feet as are the housekeepers who run everywhere. The food wasn’t up to the standard we have previously had. Hotel is half full at best and the management have not re-employed enough staff to cater for the number of guests. They didn’t “fog” to deal with the mosquitoes once the entire 2 weeks we were there as in previous visits. One day relaxing after our showers after a day at the pool the door is opened and the busboy walks in with new guests, reception staff had advised them they were in our room!!! This used to be a 5* upmarket relaxing holiday location, but no more. It’s very noisy and I can only liken it to an adults “spring break” vibe hotel. If you want a quiet relaxing holiday look elsewhere and do not book here.

We stayed here on our honeymoon for 8 nights and wow did it exceed our expectations! The staff and service were amazing, the entire property was so clean, the restaurants and bars were great. We stayed in a rooftop terrace suite with plunge pool and we were so happy with this. It felt very private and was nice to relax on the balcony bed in the mornings. For couples staying here for their honeymoon or anniversary trip, I highly suggest paying extra to have a private beach dinner. This was our favorite part of the whole trip. They treated us like royalty. It was truly amazing. Overall we had the best honeymoon trip and we will definitely be back for anniversary trips!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Excellence. We had an EC Swim up room in building 9 which we loved - the room was kept pristine by the maid service and mini bar always stocked. The food at the resort is very good. I had very few disappointments. Absolutely loved Spice for the sushi, liked casual dining at the Lobster House, Mexican food at Agave. The coffee shop is such a nice thing to have - coffees, ice creams, pastries and sandwiches available to grab and go all day. I'd also say the pool side pizzas are a must try. The drinks and service are excellent - particularly the pool side service at Sol Bar was very good. The resort is absolutely gorgeous and spotless, the team work very hard so that it literally never has anything out of place. We cannot wait to return in future.
