Sun Club El Dorado receives mixed feedback from its guests. While the rooms are often seen as basic and lacking in amenities like hairdryers and fridges, the hotel's pools and entertainment options garner appreciation. The atmosphere divides opinion; a family-friendly ambiance is sometimes overshadowed by concerns over music choices and early bar closures. Cleanliness is generally good, though room servicing inconsistencies are noted.
Its remote location can deter those seeking vibrant nightlife. Value-wise, it's considered budget-friendly despite some grievances over extra costs. Service is acknowledged as friendly, but not without lapses in efficiency.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed here for three nights after booking it last minute while staying at our family home on the island . Booked into the superior sea view rooms hotel staff all wearing masks Screens hand gel etc Very polite at reception. The rooms themselves have such fantastic views of the sea loved it . The only negative I can say is that the rooms hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly on arrival I think because we had booked it so last minute either the room hadn’t been checked properly or hadn’t been used this season as there was hair on the side and the floor needed a bit of a mop through and the toilet was loose on arrival but to be fair to the hotel the maintenance guy fixed it immediately and the lady cleaned through. But hey this happens I guess as I believe the hotel is operating on limited staff .
Anyway those are the slight negatives . The all inclusive is superb food plentiful and varied all staff wearing masks when serving clients . There are three pools to choose from with again unbelievable views and a slide for the kids which operates between 12-1 and 4-5 . You can book pony and horse rides for the kids which I believe was 15 euros. The mini golf however needs fully updating or closed completely as it was all ripped . Entertainment staff did a good job considering there where only three of them . Bar staff attentive and we had to put masks on to be served inside which is enforced. We really enjoyed our stay here I think cause it was quiet we had such a good experience as I have no idea what it would be like in the height of a normal season. I would return here again 👍

After reading all the bad reviews I was a little concerned so packed both bath and beach towels, cleaning wipes and spray. But on opening the door to our tiny room 201B. But it was clean , not much to hang clothes up, only the pool bar and snack bar open during the day we used the top pool (, there are 3 ) food lots of choice, but if you are a veggie or vegan you might get feed up with salad. We went on the bus 505 &504 to palma and s'Aranal costing €4.50 each each way but if you use your bank card it's cheaper and upto 5 on one card just remember to swipe it in and out when you leave the amount of tickets you brought,
The steps to the water were done in the morning think it would have been nice with the walk way and jetting still there,

There are good and bad in everywhere you stay. Nobody can match 100% of customers needs. I need to say that. So we're here now. Myself, my wife and 2 kids (15&11).
It was a late booking after a stressful few months and we liked what we saw and it was cheap. We booked a bungalow with garden view.
Negatives:
Over an hour to check in
Only 3 beds in room for 4 of us.
No towels
No toilet paper
Sofa bed was broken in places
No patio furniture on terrace
Garden is a dry bit of land with dead shrubs
Rooms very basic
Air conditioning is available but does nothing to cool the room
Closet space non existent
Positives:
Pool areas really good
Bars are great ( you "rent" a cup for €1 and you get that back at end of stay or keep it. They will replace your cups or wash them if needed)
Soft drinks were self serve so no waiting in queue.
Entertainment staff are awesome
Food is better than the 2 star service I expected.
Views are fabulous.
Overall it's been good. I think with a little forethought and investment of cash, the place would scrub up well and possibly make it 3 star. However, it's a busy hotel so why spend when people are willing to pay?
Would I stay here again? If looking for a cheap getaway then yes.

I stayed here with my partner and got back a few days ago. This resort is brilliant, 3 pools and atleast 3 bars around the resort. They give you a cup and you can just keep going back to fill up with whatever drink you want (they wash it). Food is basic and as a picky eater I did struggle, but who can complain for how much you pay? The amount of facilities this place has is brilliant- from water sports, entertainment team are great, small arcade, shops on resort, multiple pools! There is sea steps you can walk down, the view of the sea is stunning but the steps aren’t very safe so we didn’t go all the way down. I can’t say this enough- upgrade your room! It is worth the amount you pay! We upgraded to a studio/apartment with a sea view, beware if you can’t walk far as it is at the top of the hill but the view is beautiful. The room was clean and had a fridge, kettle, hob and all the facilities. Definitely upgrade as they look a lot nicer then the standard ones. I would definitely come back here, although it is tucked away we came here happy with that and knowing it was a bit out the way as we wanted a nice break. This place is so worth the money and I can’t recommend enough!

After reading all the reviews I was apprehensive about staying here and I am quite disappointed after a week. I have been to many 2 star hotels but this particular one was nothing like the pictures or description, it was very ran down. Do NOT book a flight for an early morning as you cannot check in untll 3pm! This wasn't mentioned on the website and we arrived at 11am with 3 very tired toddler and were told to wait in the bar till 3pm. There was no shower room or waiting room so we had to hang around in with our cases.
The restaurant opening times are shorter than stated online so the ques are ridiculous as the whole hotel is trying to eat within 2 hours. Again an absolute pain with 3 small children.
We requested a refurbished bungalow after reading previous reviews and so glad we did as the room was lovely and from seeing other people's non refurbished ones we are fortunate to have one of the better ones.
The hotel is miles away from shops and restaurants so if you don't like the food (which our children didnt) it's a long week of catching buses into the city to eat out. The bus does run every 20 minutes but you have to travel over an hour each way.
We made the most of the holiday and you do get what you pay for as we paid very little but in hind sight I would have paid more to stay in a higher star. If the hotel was in a better location it would of mattered because we could of gone to restaurants shops or the beach but being miles away from everything I would of hoped for it to offer more

This is a lovely resort, friendly, clean, good food, lovely pools etc. NO beach, cliff edge, so if you have kids be aware there is no sandy beach.
BUT
The horses are not being looked after well. I was there for a week and they had only been there a week earlier as it was the start of the season. There were 6 horses and ponies in total. One chestnut look quite thin and had a dull coat.
I watched each day what they were fed and how they were looked after as there was a sun and pool area next to them.
The young man in charge said that the alfalfa hay was too rich for them, so basically fed them nothing!!!
I tried to explain that they needed hay. They were left in a sand school from 9am to 6pm with just water. Each day they were eating sand and their own poo. At night again no hay in the school for them. So they were basically being starved.
I complained to the rep and Director of the hotel. The rep was lovely and is trying to help.
Only one day when another man came to look after the horses did they get fed hay and feed. He had a picture of the chestnut form earlier when it looked shiny and well. He was very concerned with how they were being looked after. He fed them well for that day.
I tried my best to get them looked after better.
Please if you re going to this resort ask for hay to be put in the school for them during the day and at night. They do get water, that is not the problem, it is the lack of hay.
It is simple basic care which is not being done.
You would think in Spain they would get it right.

We were worried with some of the reviews. I’m not sure what people are expecting? I have stayed in 4 star hotels and knew this was only a 2 star the surroundings are more than two star! The rooms are basic, we had a large sized bungalow that was clean and cleaned every other day, the beds were comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. The pools are excellent and clean. We had no trouble getting a sun bed, the sun beds weren’t comfortable but okay. It’s a shame they’re do not serve more pizza at the snack bar, there was definitely not enough. The food buffet was plain and simple but we always found something to eat, we did not become ill and the drinks were okay. I would suggest updating the restaurant area, it has a canteen vibe. The wine is watered down in the restaurant and the breakfast juices but they’re do provide cups and decent hot drinks. We did not like the reusable plastic cups because you had to remember them at all times and it was time consuming receiving a refundable deposit. The mini golf needs maintenance work. The horses have gone, which is positive to stop the flies. The entertainment was okay, mainly karaoke, Michael Jackson look alike and a magic show. The daytime pool entertainment was great and the Moroccan entertainer saved the entertainment! There is a small nightclub at 11:30 where you can buy your own drinks. There we’re strict timings on the all inclusive and drinks end at 11 pm. The steps are okay you just need to be careful there is a rail but I wouldn’t recommend young children going down to the rocks. My boys are teenagers and loved jumping into the sea from the rocks. The sea is clear and you can see where it’s safe to swim. The areas are clean and tidy and the show bar is good with excellent views. There is a bus near by that takes you to S Arsenal beach and Palma. I would recommend the fast bus and you can get the bus time table from reception. The taxi is about 30 euros from the airport but this can vary. The complex has a mixture of Spanish, French, German and English but everyone got on and the atmosphere was great. Overall we we’re pleased with the value of our holiday and the staff are working hard to maintain this large complex. There are stone pavements to walk on and lighting. Five star surroundings with basic rooms. With more investment the place would become more expensive. Overall good value for money, there were three pools, three bars, tennis courts, Astro, sea swimming for adults and older children, rifle shooting, mini golf, yoga, water slide, Aqua aerobics, darts, pool, air hockey, water polo and cheesy evening entertainment. Please go with a open mind and do not expect 4 star accommodation you will have a lovely time!

We stayed here mid August and it was a lot better than some reviews state. There weren't flies and everything is clean. It needs updating in some areas but it is good for 2 star. Staff work really hard. After the initial shock of our room, we enjoyed a drink and admired the view. It's absolutely beautiful looking out at the sunset and the view from the pool bar is lovely. Despite this, our pillows were comfy and the AC worked well. The showers were powerful but took a while to drain. We slept fine.
Meals were hit and miss but there was always fresh bread, cheese etc on offer. Our only disappointment was the amount of processed foods- fresh fish only and the burgers etc were very processed and the meat content was questionable. Breakfast was good and it contained fresh Pancakes or eggs each morning. The bacon wasn't our preference but you had plenty on offer. I'm a picky eater and managed fine.
The cup system worked well and kept the place clean. Bartenders always clean the cups before giving you another drink.
The location is out of the way but Arenal is only a bus ride away (approx 30 mins) and Palma is around an hour. You can use contactless to pay and it's cheaper.
Entertainment during the day includes water polo, aqua gym etc. People are not always reminded what's on but there is a large board on the front of the main bar advertising each thing. The entertainment in the evening isn't amazing but Staff work hard. We loved the Magic Show and karaoke but this tends to only be from 10-11 as a mini disco takes place first. We tended to play cards outside and listen in. It suits a quiet couple or family well.
Staff work really hard here and if you are on a budget, I'd recommend it here but be mindful of the rooms and the remoteness of the location.

We arrived as a group of 3, we arrived early and went to reception. Told our room isn’t ready till 3pm but we can get a wristband to use facilities, use the luggage room etc. This was fine and didn’t bother us as we headed to the pool.
We found plenty of sun beds available, they are uncomfortable and are just laid in a lying position there is no option to sit them up. What you’d expect for 2* I suppose though. The main pool is 10ft deep, 3.1m, there is no warning of this so when we jumped in we were slightly shell shocked. There was no lifeguard a lot of the time and when he did come he sat on his phone, and ignored the pool most of the time.
There was a bar at each pool, the drinks are watered down as anything and I have no idea how people can get drunk from it. Beware there are wasps and flies absolutely everywhere, they do not leave you alone.
The food is the most repetitive AI I’ve ever been to, it was pork or fish, every single lunch time and tea time. There was flies on some of the food aswell. Breakfast was the best meal by far and the freshly made pancakes were amazing with chocolate sauce. The snack bar may aswell not have existed. The pizza was never there and the sandwiches were non existent, there was maybe 2 slices of dry bread when you got there, not worth it at all.
Our room- we paid for sea view, which we got. At a price as it was right up a hill, we had room 5. It did it’s job. The shower was abit dodgey and flooded the bathroom as it didn’t sit in place. One of the beds was really squeaky too and everytime I moved woke everybody up.
We had some cockroaches on our baloney which I know cannot be helped but still wasn’t nice.
There is a lady in reception called Shirley who does all the excursion booking and helped us book a wonderful excursion and pointed us in the right direction for the bus into Arenal.
Overall we only paid for a 2* and what we got was 2*. It’s run down and needs a lot of repairs. It’s very uneven to walk on, not great for anybody with mobility issues.
The entertainment was very poor, very far fetched and the entertainers didn’t stick to the schedule AT ALL. they had music on at the pool but kept changing the song half way through which was really annoying.

My partner and I stayed 5 nights, the check in process was quite long as the guy at reception wanted us to show him a voucher to show we had made a reservation, except we were never sent a voucher. After a while the guy just went on my phone and also couldn't find it... we eventually checked in after a good 40 minutes of confusion. It was 2am and we had to find our way to our room in a maze of apartments in total darkness without aid which was a mission. When we saw our room, I was disappointed I can't lie - nothing like the images on the website we booked on. Quite small and dark, consistented of 2 camp beds only, a small bathroom attached which was also so small the door didn't open fully. Only enough hot water for 1 person to have a warm shower so took it in turns to shower 1st. The room was serviced twice during our stay though and we got fresh sheets and towels by lovely members of staff. The air conditioning worked amazingly though which was a relief!
The food was nice to start but did get very repetative very quickly. Essentially everything was pork or "contained pork", to the point my partner and I played 'guess the pork item on the buffet tonight' most days. I wouldn't have wanted to stay any longer purely for the lack of variation at meal times. Similar story at snack times, repetative options of ham/cheese which unfortunately flies had been able to get to.
The pools were lovely and had amazing views! We loved chilling by them and the bars were great, able to refill our drinks at any time we wanted. Staff at the bars were polite and efficient, evening entertainment was interesting however as one night involved a man explaining to children how tortoises mate in great detail, including sound effects.
We took a bus ride to the beach which was about 40mins as the area around the actual hotel is quite remote, but the public transport options were good and near to the hotel's reception. Luckily we were quite happy to relax by the pools most days without getting bored but if youre not a 'lounging about' kind of holiday fan, I would suggest booking somewhere closer to the main cities/beaches.
Overall it was a nice stay and we did enjoy it but a few things could be improved upon.
