Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Words can’t describe this place and the pictures don’t do it justice. It’s a private 5 star resort in the best location you could ask for. When we first showed up, we were in disbelief. The whole property is pristine and in excellent condition. Everything is well maintained and CLEAN. We didn’t think we would use the outdoor kitchen by the pool or the outdoor theater (thought maybe it would be gimmicky) but we hung out at the outdoor kitchen every day and had breakfast there most mornings and the outdoor theater was such a nice touch…a great place to unwind after long days.
The location is ideal. It’s walking distance to town but still quiet and feels secluded. We would walk in to town, along the beach, every morning for coffee or breakfast and it was close enough that even our little ones could make the walk. And when it says it’s on the beach, it is literally on the beach. The two lower level suites on the ocean side open to a patio that is right there…ocean breeze and the sound of waves crashing was so amazing.
We wondered if having the caretaker there every weekday would feel intrusive but Robert was the best part of the property. He was so incredibly helpful, kind and engaging without being intrusive at all. He ended up becoming a friend and we can’t wait to return to visit Robert (and of course the property). Robert would take kayaks and paddle boards down to the beach anytime we wanted, scour the beaches for driftwood to build us a bonfire, and make sure everything was in working order and that we were enjoying our time. He even helped out boys with fishing to make sure they caught something.
And last, Jennifer, the host, made the whole vacation happen for us. She planned our entire week for us perfectly - not too busy but just enough excursions and activities for us to really experience Costa Rica. Jennifer is so helpful and knowledgeable about the area. She can literally arrange anything. It was our sons birthday while we were there and not only did she arrange for a chef to come and cook us dinner but she had a custom cake delivered in 2 days notice that was one of the most impressive cakes I have seen. She asked what our sons interests were and it was literally custom decorated for him in every way.

The house is spectacular! We had 7 couples in our group at the house for a week and each couple had their own suite. The pool and outdoor bar are perfect for lazy afternoons or evening cocktails. The beachside of the house has 2 lower verandas, a large 2nd story veranda with lounge seating and a 3rd story private balcony all perfect for sunset viewing. The kitchen and dining room had plenty of space for all 14 of us to enjoy dinners with hired Chef Jorge Jiménez (definitely a must-do during your stay). The location of Villa Oceano (also known as Casa Melray) is perfect. Close to Playa Potrero and Flamingo. Just a short golf cart ride to Nita Coffee, Hemmingway’s, Cafe Del Sol, La Forketta, Potrero Brewery and many more local eats. Most of all Maria and her crew were so helpful and friendly. We had an amazing week and this house was perfection!

When viewing photos of Villa Oceano, I knew we were in for a treat, arriving was jaw dropping! We were in our own tropical paradise. The layout of the property was perfect, one side the beach for our morning walks, other the pool and outdoor kitchen for our happy hours. Exceptionally clean and modern with everything at your fingertips. Robert, the property care-taker is nearby to help bring the kayaks and paddle boards to the beach and built us the most fantastic beach Bon fires. Every night we watched sunsets that I have never seen before from the huge second level deck or sitting on the beach. Always different and amazing!

Everything about this place is amazing and the service we received was great. We were a large group of friends and our hosts went above and beyond so we were well taken care of, from water toys for the beach to meals cooked by a personal chef. We will definitely be back!

I don't even know where to begin. This place is better then the Four Seasons Resort. The bedding and pillows were to die for. The management was able to secure a chef for our stay which was a bonus. We would wake up and let Roberto (the caretaker) know we wanted to go paddle boarding and then go up and eat breakfast. He would have the paddle boards ready upon our return from breakfast. The area is great. We seen a group of people walk by our patio facing the beach that looked important. Later we found out it was Gisele Bundchen and her security. Love it here and we will for sure come back.

Killer holiday!! Very clean, warm and inviting. We had a 50th birthday party with a larger group that filled all the rooms but never felt crowded. Great concept..A breath of fresh air vs renting a house where everyone is fallen all over each other with no personnel space of their own. The property coordinator "Robert" was fantastic. He set up the Kayaks for my son and I and ensured we knew the best place to adventure to. We will definitely be wanting to come back here VERY soon. Definitely a cool place for a group of friends or family. Fantastic memories!!!..See you soon.

Staying at this stunning villa by the beach was an unforgettable wellness retreat! With daily yoga and breathwork sessions, delicious meals prepared by one of the best chefs, and incredible experiences—including a fishing trip where we saw a whale, a sea turtle, and breathtaking views—it was everything I hoped for and more. The hosts, Dina, Mark, and Fernando, were exceptionally friendly, welcoming, and kind, making the experience truly special. The service and transfers exceeded all my expectations. We had an incredible experience staying at this amazing house. The great amenities and fantastic service led by Fernando made our family reunion truly memorable. Did you receive a response from Ray or Mel? We stayed there this past February. The accommodations are fabulous. We had a bar fridge and there is a covered outdoor community kitchen with full sized appliances - fridge, stove, oven, microwave.
There are more places to choose from in the Playa Potrero area.
