The hotel is situated on the edge of Taitung's centre, bordering the sea and a nice park. It's a large multi storey building easily visible as you approach along the main road.If you arrive by train it's a long way from the station though-10 mins and 200 Taiwan dollars by taxi (5GBP/7US) We seemed to be the only guests as we entered the large, airy lobby and got the usual '3pm check in' at reception. It was 1pm and given there was no one around in this huge hotel we felt it unlikely there were NO rooms ready for occupancy. We therefore responded with something along the lines of 'Really??!' And were allowed to check in straight away.We were given a room on the 6th floor with distant ocean view across the park,a (quiet) dual carriageway and a minor construction site. The room was large, with 2 single beds which could be pulled together. It had a big picture window from which you could see the sea as well as distant mountains. The room was stylishly decorated, very clean and modern. The Bathroom was large with a hi-tech walk in shower with multi direction sprays. All in all the room was very comfortable.

The hotel offers free bikes and we took a couple out on the City's 20km bike loop from the old railway station. This is highly recommended- you ride along the old rail line, past paddy fields, canals, a bizarre water irrigation park and end up in the big forest park next to the hotel. There was a minor typhoon on the day we took the trail, and there were some diversions causing a missed trail near the baseball stadium and some close encounters with feral dogs but we thoroughly enjoyed the ride!

At night the hotel is a 5 minute walk from Uncle Pete's pizzas and we were treated to the American owner,an 18 year resident of Taitung, playing bluegrass on his fiddle- great food too! He also directed us to Kasa cafe, a nice bar in town.

Back at the hotel, we slept well until around 8am when the hotel began to be buzzed by a couple of fighter jets who flew over the building a number of times which was quite disconcerting! Breakfast was included and was the usual Chinese buffet fare with no Western options except toast- the Chinese food looked to be a good range though not my choice for breakfast. Bizarrely the hotel has no bar and serves no alcohol . (Not that I wanted any for breakfast though!)

I had low expectations of Taitung after reading the Lonely Planet but I liked the town- I much preferred it to Kaohsiung which I felt was over rated. This hotel isn't the most central but it's in a nice location, easy to find and away from heavy traffic with sea views and a 15 minute walk to the centre of town.A nice room and reasonable rates too.

We stayed for one night only.
The impression when entering the lobby was so so.
Nice touch to offer coffey, juice and some bread free of charge.
The room however was on a 4 star level. Fresh, clean and with everything you need.
Excellent King size bed. The Air condition was effective and silen.
Chinese breakfast with few options for us used to swedish hotel breafasts.
Overall a pleasant stay that we rate 3+

Room:
Clean spacious room facing the Flowing Lake (Pipa lake) with mountains and partial sea view.

Linens are new, beds are comfy but towels are beginning to show their age. No tub in the toilet but water temperature and pressure are all fine. No toiletries provided. Please bring your own.

Location:
Located at a corner of town, it’s close to the Seashore Park, Flowing Lake and Forest Park.

Hotel provides free bicycles (both single and duo riders). Hotel also provide free rain coats when we needed them.

Because of its location, we rode to the the seaside frequently. We also rode to Tiehua village and all around town. It’s a short 5min walk to Siwei night market (opens sundays only). Other than that, it’s pretty quiet and most probably need a 10-15mins walk to other eateries and 7-11 which was okay for us.

Others:
We enjoyed the breakfast very much. Yummy porridge with all kinds of condiments. Bread and toasts, fruits, salads, noodles. Simple and tasty.

Complimentary use of washing machine but chargeable for dryers.

All the staff we met were very polite and ready to help.

How to get there?
Hotel offered complimentary pickup from Taitung Tra station, but must give advance notice. 12mins drive away from the station.

Nt$200 by taxi.

If without luggage , a cheaper option is via shuttle bus from Taitung Tra station (check with visitor centre just outside the station for the bus no.) and alight at Forest Park bus stop and walk another abt 500meters.

Extra:
Hotel helped us to arrange a day trip to the east coast all the way to Sanxianxia. They also have different day trips on different days (check their website).

Ok, that’s all I can remember. Hope these help you in your holiday planning.

Kai Shen Starlight Hotel is located right next to Pacific Ocean, and sea view at rooftop is simply fabulous! The room was quite spacious for family to stay in, and buffet breakfast is good. However, parking spaces were very limited, and the intern at front desk gave us the cold shoulder. At night, the main road nearby turns into a large night market, and it is the heaven for street food lovers. Generally speaking, this is a hotel suitable for family vacations.

This newly-built hotel is a bit away from the town center but there are bicycles available for guests to go around (of course, only for those who ride bicycles).

Overall, our stay was pleasant but I would like to point out one point to improve: The food. Our month-long trip gave us tons of opportunity to try different restaurants food, the one at this hotel was not the greatest (Thank God not the worst). The cafeteria was spacious and well organised but the breakfast served was not very impressive. Maybe for the Chinese style breakfast was a fine selection of dishes. For us visiting from overseas, however, eggs and bacon (ok, we accept just ham then) should not too hard to find/make, right?

Oh, well. If we plan to visit back Taitung, we definitely consider going back to this hotel.

I stayed on the 9th fl, in a room facing the Pacific. It was clear days that you can see the Green Island, then you were awaken by the glorious sunrise in the following morning. The hotel keeps in a very good condition, the room is clean, the breakfast is good.

First time to stay in this very new hotel. We enjoyed the free shuttle bus to and from the airport which took only 10minutes in good traffic. We arrived early and so rented one of the hotel's free bikes to enjoy the Forrest park next to the hotel. The check in was swift and smooth, we were given a higher floor with a nice view of the ocean. The amenities in the room are excellent including a safe deposit box, fridge, good size tv and lots of sockets conveniently placed for charging tablets and phones etc. The bed was very comfortable but the pillow a little hard for my liking. The bathroom is lovely and everything has been maintained well, it is after all a very new hotel. Breakfast was plentiful though more toward a local Taiwanese flavour but still lots to choose from. All in all an excellent stay and although no pool or gym I would rate this above 3 stars because of the beautiful modern facilities and very friendly staff. They gave lots of information and helped us order taxis and contact a motorbike hire shop. A short ten to fifteen minute walk from downtown. On Sunday nights the big night market is held in the Main Street down from the hotel. A five minute walk to the beach too. A great recommendation.

firstly the hotel has no heater. we were freezing in their room. the hotel also had nothing. no laundry service, no restaurant, nothing. we had to cycle 7min to nearby familymart/7/11 or take a taxi to city for food. breakfast is lousy also. i would not recommend this hotel at all. and the price was expensive and the room had lousy uncomfortable beds. wifi didn't work at all in the rooms. one saving point was the hotel is clean.

Location of the hotel is very close to Taitung Forest Park, the property is 2 years old. Our room was spacious, clean and bright. the bed was comfortable, and the big window has ocean view. Hotel provide free bike rental and car parking garage in B1 level, easy access. On the flip side, the hotel located in a quiet neighborhood, no convenience store and restaurant within walking distance, breakfast was average. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and we recommend this hotel.
