The hotel was a perfect base for our group of 6 adults and 5 children. We had 4 rooms close together on the ground floor so we had easy access to the restaurant and other facilities. This worked really well as our boys were young and they didn’t have to get kitted up each time we had breakfast or dinner. The food is plentiful and varied as there is always something to meet most tastes. The rooms are spacious and our boys enjoyed the pool which they visited after a long day of outside activities.
We were there for 4 days on the Magical Interlude which ensured we had a great range of included things to do.
It was an amazing experience made even more enjoyable through the help of our guides Sophie and Jess who were so keen to involve everyone especially our youngest grandson.
Thank you Canterbury Travel.
The establishment's communal areas are slightly old-fashioned, but I cannot comment on the hotel rooms and the log cabin are so charming and cosy that it was not really a problem for us, especially considering the good value for money. Recommended especially for family holidays.
The hotel is a large structure next to which there are around twenty log cabins hidden in the middle of the forest.
The log cabins:
The log cabins are wonderful, although quite cold. Inside the cabin there is a small kitchen, a private sauna and a fireplace, with wood ready to make a fire. Having the log cabin we did not have access to the spa, which is located inside the structure. The only sore point: the cleanliness of the bathroom, which leaves a lot to be desired. We found a lot of hair in the sink and I had to clean the toilet, which was full of stains.
The superior room:
Very basic, brown, with two separate single beds. The temperature is maintained constantly at 19/20 degrees. We suffered a lot from the cold, as the room is humid and it was -30 degrees outside. The rooms have a small balcony, from which we could see the Northern Lights (although the view is very limited). There are no slippers in the room, which you have to buy for €4.50, nor bathrobes to use in the spa. Furthermore, we only found two small and two large towels that you have to use both for drying yourself and in the spa. The breakfast in the morning is wonderful, with lots of choice and good quality products.
In general, with the exception of breakfast, a culture of saving dominates in the hotel: the external bathrooms are shabby, the water in the taps is cold, there is no bottle of water in the room, and all those little precautions that should not be missing in a structure that charges €270 per night.
The spa
Small typical gym spa: from a shower you can access a sauna that never goes above 60/70 degrees, and a small Turkish bath. There would also be a swimming pool with a jacuzzi, with very cold water. There is no lounge area, or a place to lie down, nor an area for herbal teas, so as soon as you finish the route you have to go straight back to your room.
having been to levi in lapland before in levi we wanted to share the experience with family friends. we had high expectations witch this holiday didn’t live up to.
the hotel was very basic and having selected that there was 5 people sleeping and having booked a cabin. we were put into a room with 2 single beds and a sofa bed.
food was very basic in the inclusive breakfast although the pizzas at dinner was nice the rest was bland.
tui really messed up with this location with their tour operators, we paid to do excursions that was sub par and felt rushed.
i understand this country isn’t a english native speaking country but the santa we were taken to spoke very little english and my kids said they could see his natural black beard under his santa beard. having been to levi last time the santa experience was magical in a forrest with elf school and mrs claus cabin. this santa experience in lusto was in a small welfare cabin with a santa that looked drafted in to fill a space. would not recommend coming here with tui.
santa experience was that bad we paid €400 each way for a taxi to santas village ( that we were told at the booking was near) that was great and saved the Christmas spirit for the kids
my problem was really with the holiday experience and not the hotel, hotel staff was very helpful but stated that the hotel owns shops and restaurants near so either way we’d get the same food as in hotel restaurant.
ski slope near is a lot of fun for kids at €10 per child for the full day.
will be going to lapland again but i’m afraid it won’t be in lusto.
The reindeer trip was expensive and charging for drinks when we went in for a warm up is a rip off. Feeding the reindeer was much more fun and the children seemed to enjoy that but more than sitting in a sleigh plodding along a track, our children wanted a bit of speed.
Check out other companies who do trips there. Much cheaper than TUI and no where near as busy. We booked a husky ride independently and there was only a few of us there so we had more time to play with the dogs.
The ski resort up the road is good value for money and the rings and sledges were lots of fun.
The Canterbury staff were incredible!!
Hotel was lovely. We had a basic room which , indeed was basic but the balcony with the snowy views were beautiful.
Location of hotel is perfect and the sledges outside were a great idea.
I would not hesitate to book with Canterbury again. In fact I’ve enquired for 2023 already.
Only dissapointment was that I booked in April 2021. I wanted to book a log cabin. These were full at time of booking but was assured if one became available I would be contacted.
I did email Canterbury 3 times in December prior to travel to ask for a cabin but was told all booked.
Whilst in resort i met 2 families.
First family had booked 6 weeks before departure and got a cabin due to a “cancellation “.
Second family booked 23rd Dec and got a cabin with no problems.
Really dissapointed as I felt booking early I would get priority.
Next thing was the Half Board upgrade. I declined at time of booking. However families that booked within weeks of departure for it offered Half Price!!
Had I been offered this deal I would of taken it.
So overall fabulous holiday but disappointed in the above two points.
Any feedback from Canterbury would be appreciated
The surroundings around the hotel was just unbelievable. My daughters have never experienced snow like it and it also looked like it wasn't real and it just sparkled like a diamond! We would go tobogganing all day around the hotel, go for walks, toast marshmallows and we went the the ski slope a few times which has a really good cafe and safe are friendly. The kids did ski-ing, tobogganing and snow rings there. It was 10euro per child and a adult gets in free and this got you a day pass to use the rings, tobogganing.
We visited the real Santa and got to go on a husky ride, reindeer ride and snow mobile, all of it was magical, the kids loved it. It was about 2 hours you spent there and we managed to go on everything.
We had a room on the bottom floor so we had a terrace which opened straight onto the snow and forest. the kids would go out there playing, definitely recommend having a bottom floor. Breakfast gets busy and is hectic but everyone gets up early to make the most of the days. The food in the hotel restaurant was really good and reasonably priced. We went swimming which was nice. You can walk all along the path to the frozen lake which is the best place to see the northern lights on a clear night. We really really really didn't want to leave Lapland and i would recommend this hotel, we didn't want to stay in a busy part with loads of shops, bars, nightlife etc and this was perfect. We wanted something more rural and not built up and this was it. It has a few shops, restaurants etc a couple of mins walk away. Its a magical place and we will be returning one day to this hotel, as this was the best holiday we have ever been on. You will not regret booking here!

"Breakfast gets busy so either go really early or late. Hand and feet warmers are good to get before you go, especially for the little ones."Read full review
