On our way from Thanjavur to Madurai our family stopped for lunch at Chettinadu Mansion in Kanadukathan, a village in which British traders built beautiful mansions. Built in 1902, this mansion is palatial with its multiple columns and arches across the front with its grand entry. Inside there are large white and dark wood, the green and white tiled floors,...

The grand entrance promised a luxurious hotel. The hotel itself, though only partially restored, is quite grand but our room was disappointing. The hotel occupies a small part of what was once a luxurious family home. Now leased to a hotelier, the lightly restored sections are historically and architecturally interesting. The room configurations have not been changed, so they are...

What a hidden gem. We were greeted in a big wedding hall with black Italian marble pillars. Our room was something else. Great decoration and vet comfortable. The pool was a short walk away. On the way we saw monkeys, cows and mansions from yesteryear. We arrived back to have dinner in the main courtyard. Amazing. Incredible hosts. Thoroughly recommend...

Arrived after dark and my first impression upon entering my room was that it had been painted by Salvador Dali and that I had wandered onto a David Lynch movie. Very high ceilings with a set of small stairs at the back that led to an empty room and then a bathroom. All 12 rooms are on the second floor...

We stayed here for 2 night in February. The town itself is truely worth of visit. The hotel I would rate from arcitectural point of view a nice building, but its run as 2-3 star hotel. The personel was very friendly and helpful, true indian hospitality. the dinner was good, but over priced in India, however not really expensive. I...

We went to see the mansion and found that it was maintained well. We did not stay there but were at their other property called chettinad court. The tiles, the chandeliers, the carved doors were all in the local style. We had seen many local masions similar to this place. The long courtyard had paintings of a local saint story...

I booked and was made to pay the full bill in advance which I happily did, only to arrive at the Mansion and be told it was full and that I would be accommodated in the adjacent building. Okay... Then I saw the room, it was certainly not only what I not paid Rs5000 for - it also stank, the...

Very much a mixed bag, but for a hotel that describes itself as luxury, it just isn't up to scratch. Room was clean and nicely furnished, with retro electrics to go with it. Bed was comfy and bathroom spacious, and a/c pretty good (though somewhat dated and noisy). The shower was a trickle (had to resort to bucket and jug)....
