We stayed at the lodge as part of our honeymoon and it is a highlight we will always remember. Gerry and Anne run the lodge which really is in the middle of nowhere. The setting is beautiful, the room very comfortable and the food delicious! There is satellite wifi but only available in the main building which is sufficient to... More

We spent two nights at the Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge. The setting was perfect with the accomodation complex surrounded by luxuriant rainforest and the Moeraki River in front of the dining room and lounges. Anne and Gerry were great hosts and we really enjoyed the guided activities that included walks to a nearby beach to watch Fiordland Crested Penguins emerge... More

Gerry and Anne own and operate this exquisite and gorgeous lodge which feels as if it's sitting hidden in the midst of a jungle, when, in fact, it's only a few feet off the road. The rooms were immaculate and the dining room flawless in every way. The staff were super-friendly and went out of their way to be accomodating.... More

I found Wilderness Lodge by accident whilst researching the South Island of New Zealand. Our stay was a highlight of our holiday. Our room had a river view and was very comfortable. The added extras such as quality toiletries and fruit in the room were lovely touches. The sitting room and dining areas were well appointed with river views. The... More

The owners of the Wilderness Lodge could not be any friendlier. The free rainforest and glow worm walks were incredibly educational. Best of all, they have an exclusive fiordland crested penguin (paid) guided tour. The staff is personally invested in maintaining and promoting the nesting areas on this walk, removing obstacles for easier penguin access to the beach to allow... More

My husband and I stayed for three nights at the Wilderness Lodge in September. The lodge had just reopened a week or two earlier and we shared it with just one other set of guests during our 3 nights there. The location is just amazing - the lodge and rooms sit at the side of the river. There are trails... More

We chose Lake Moeraki Wilderness Lodge for our 30th wedding anniversary on 4 October and planned our entire trip around staying there for 2 memorable nights to celebrate our milestone. We experienced warm and professional service from the moment we emailed them in early 2016. Upon arrival we were treated to sublime service by the owners Gerry and Ann and... More

My wife and I decided to shout ourselves for our birthdays. The accommodation was superb and we had the Lodge to ourselves for two nights and the undivided attention of the owners. Thanks to gourmet Chef Steve we enjoyed excellent meals. The highlight for me was seeing and photographing a Fiordland crested penguin as it came ashore in the evening.... More

What a perfect place. We didn't want to leave. The lodge is beautifully built in stunning surroundings. The rooms are spotless and feel like a home from home. The beds are extremely comfortable and perfect to rest your bones after a day out trekking or kayaking on one of the guided tours the lodge runs. We saw penguins, seals and... More

What a fantastic place to experience pure undiluted nature. From kayaking on the lake or lagoon, forest walks to the river or sea, to sea coast walks - Lake Moeraki has it all. Anne and Gerry were great hosts and guides, happy to do anything for you. Scenery was fabulous but do take the insect repellent!
