Excellent standard of room. Air conditioned, with well equipped bathroom with separate shower stall. All expected amenities, with a large & comfortable bed to complete the package. The room has retained the heavy wooden beam structure without impeding the guests movements. The hotel garden is a delight, with plentiful tables & chairs allowing guests to enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif

We only stayed one night but we really enjoyed it. We highly recommend it. We forgot my daughter's teddy bear at the hotel and within a few days it was sent to us, really good service! We will most probably return next year

This was a wonderful place and a very nice surprise. A bit hard to find ( it is actually just S of the Availles sign, which confused us and the GPS ) but lovely old place. Dating from the 15th century, and the original home of Decartes. Breakfast consisted of cheese and jams made on the property, Our room was...

We were on our way from St Malo to the Dordogne when we stayed at Le Pigeonnaire. We had a warm welcome and were shown to a nice large comfortable room which was very quiet and enabled an undisturbed night's sleep. We had booked a "superior" room. We had the set 3 course meal which we enjoyed. The breakfast buffet...

Recommended by friends for an overnight stay on a drive down to the Dordogne. Little difficult to find in the countryside but well worth the effort. Had a three course meal on arrival, little choice but food was of good quality served by friendly, efficient staff. Room comfortable and quiet. Breakfast was a cold buffet with everything one could want...

I booked this place after seeing the overall score. I will NEVER make that mistake again. Firstly, great location, and other guests said that although their food was also appalling, their room was clean, so its clearly only disabled people or visitors with a pet who should have a disgustingly filthy room. This place was worse than the quality hotel...

We only stayed here for one night but found it welcoming and peaceful. The room was clean and comfortable (we had a comfort superior room). The hotel grounds are lovely and there is a short walk around the gardens following a path that is lit up at night by solar powered lights. The dinner was lovely (we had 2 courses...

I must disagree with some of bad reviews of this charming hotel. We have stayed here twice now. The first time in a standard room which was admittedly quite small, but we did love the atmosphere of the hotel and wanted to come back . On this visit we had a 'Confort' room which had a small balcony and good...

Easy to find hotel approx. 10 minutes drive from motorway between Tour/Poitiers. Perfect location for Stopover. Hotel is in a very small quiet village, I don't think there is anything you can visit in it, but we have not tried. Double Comfort Rooms quite small, but okay for one night. Beds very comfortable and hotel and surroundings very quiet, so...

Our room was awful. No bigger than a storage cupboard. Window too high to see out of. Ceilings to low getting out of bed and in the bathroom. Flashing lights from air con unit all night. Staff very polite but really did not acknowledge the fact that we had not enjoyed our stay.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Did you know that French philosopher Rene Descartes once lived in Poitou-Charentes, more specifically in Availles-en-Chatellerault? His handsome 15th-century residence is now a lovely, distinctive hotel from which guests can admire the square pigeon house that gave the property its name, L'HOTEL LE PIGEONNIER DU PERRON. The peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside is a boon to the 12 rooms and 2 suites. They are full of charm with their parquetry and understated decor. Many have a slightly rustic style with stones and exposed beams. But the modernity and comfort of the furniture places them squarely in our century. They are all equipped with a shower or bathtub and an LCD flat screen TV with DTT. Some also have a telephone, Wifi, air conditioning, a DVD player, hairdryer, and/or heated towel rack. The dining room is warm and also reveals signs of the past, creating a unique setting where guests savour traditional cooking prepared with seasonal products, particularly fresh vegetables. The garden at Le Pigeonnier du Perron is a splendid venue with authentic charms. You can take your breakfast here, or laze around the pool, play table tennis or shoot hoops. You will be much better off here than on the beaches of Charente-Maritime! Because Availles-en-Chatellerault is near Poitiers and Chatellerault, you will undoubtedly leave this hotel in Poitou-Charentes for long enough to visit the Futuroscope as well as the Moulin de Chitre, Chateau de Dissay, the Descartes Home and Museum, and the Pinail Nature Reserve. European Eco label. Qualite Tourisme label. Seminars. Family friendly. Access for guests with reduced mobility. Quiet destination. Car park. No pets allowed in restaurant. ... more   less

“Duck when you walk past the end of the bed lest you hit your head on the shelf supporting a smal flatscreen TV. Position yourself carefully in the toilet not to bang your head or burn yourself on the radiator. The serviettes they provide as bath sheets would hardly cover your modesty. No drinks facilities provided in the room and no bar downstairs. ”
