It really is the only place to stay if you want to save yourself loads of driving getting to the important spots. And it feels like they know it. The staff (with one notable exception - the great girl at Deli on the Pines) lack any enthusiasm or involvement. That goes from reception (and to checking out) to the rangers... More

The lodge has very beautiful views from all its decks. You can watch the sun come up and go down from there. It has two places you can go to eat but you must make reservations for one of them or you may have a long wait. The rooms are in need of a little TLC. The bed was not... More

We had planned ahead for a family outing on the North Rim. If you have done the South Rim, I thought the South is more peaceful. It's harder to get to. We had a family of five stay in the Pioneer cabins at the lodge. Kids really enjoyed the accommodations. Was able to have a few meals at the lodge... More

I had wanted to hike from Rim to Rim for years, and after planning for over a year, we made it happen. First we plotted to get the nearly impossible Phantom Ranch reservation, and we got one by calling in a year in advance. Once we had that, we reserved 2 rooms at Grand Canyon Lodge for a year out.... This is a well maintained lodge in a quiet/low traffic area of the Grand Canyon. The cabins are very basic but very fitting for the area. This area is only open six months a year and gets a tiny percent of the traffic that goes to the south rim. The lodge is most always booked so make reservations as far... More

I have wanted to visit the North Rim for several years in order to see the iconic canyon from both sides. Although the weather was completely uncooperative (mist, cloud and rain for two days) I enjoyed the visit very much. We stayed in a rim side Pioneer cabin (primarily because it had a fridge) which had a double and twin... More

I had visited Grand Canyon way back in 2008 and took the long drive to the North Rim. Coming from Phoenix you have to drive !past! The Canyon to cross over on the only bridge, drive 40 miles further west and then 40. Miles back IT IS WORTH IT! I just went again and chose the North Rim as jumping... More

To all you campers, backpackers, hikers and outdoorsmen. God Bless You! Being in a cabin, no TV , no internet, no phone service. 42 miles from civilization. Its dark at 7:30. Not my idea of the greatest time. If it would have stayed light till say 9, but after dark you either go to the room or go drink at... More

OK, it's almost 100 years old, the lodging itself is a log cabin at 8200 feet, at a remote point in a National Park. Normal evaluation guidelines don't apply here. It's both a destination in and of itself and the perfect base to explore the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Minimal amenities, a plug in clock that's often wrong... More

At first it seemed like quite a few $$ to spend for one night. BUT just do it! You've taken all the time to plan this trip, driven for several days, put up with all the fast food you can handle, I'd say it's time to reward yourself and family! Being able to stay in the Park for sunset, and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The more remote North Rim offers up its beauty and solitude to those willing to make a little longer trek to cooler temperatures and greener vegetation of the Grand Canyon's less visited rim. Time means little here in this Nirvana for nature lovers…abundant forest beauty and wrap-around scenic splendor as sheer walls hold in the Colorado River a mile below. The only developed lodging within the National Park’s North Rim boundaries this historic treasure has cabins and lodging tucked into the trees and dotting the canyon edge. The historic dining room with wall to ceiling windows gives diners the unique opportunity to take in the Canyon's views and tasteful regional and sustainable delights for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended. For guests seeking a unique remembrance of their visit to this special place, there is a gift store and convenience store located at the North Rim. Authentic Native American handcrafts, jewelry and merchandise that is U.S.A. made by local and regional artists provide an array of gift items for guests to the Grand Canyon. Smell the pines, listen to the fluttering leaves of quaking aspen, and keep an eye out for a California condor, the largest bird in North America. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is only open from mid May to mid October. ... more   less
