On arrival the place (HUGE) looks great. After travelling for 9 hrs and existing on crackers and cheese we were looking forward to a lovely relaxing meal in the dining room. (Advertised as open for Breakfast/Lunch/DINNER....Arrived, booked in and asked for a dinner reservation. Dining Room closed!!! and only the take-away kiosk open and that closed at 5pm. Remote location and THERE ARE NO NEARBY SHOPS!!!! The deep fryer had been switched off and all that was available were pies and sausage rolls!!! The room was very basic!! (Who rated this place as 4 -4-1/2 stars??? Mickey Mouse???? There were no cereal packets available and not even a toaster. The shower is over a corner of the spa bath (and high to climb into - a danger for frail/elderly people)!!!!! The wallpaper frieze is coming off the walls and looks terrible! Certainly pet friendly (although some owners do NOT pick up after their pets so keep your eyes open) but the place itself is a disgrace and exorbitantly priced!!! A 1-star cabin in a caravan park would have been better!! Thank goodness we will never be going back.

I stayed here as part of a weekend that had been organised by fellow acquaintances so didn't have a choice of the venue but did however have a choice of the accommodation standard. They have rooms off the hall that we were using that were great for people who were prepared to be very close to the action but very basic. They were only suitable for people who were locals as you had to bring your own linen and the facilities were shared. Next step up were the cabins so a better standard although I didn't see in any of them and the best were the motel-style rooms, some of which had spas and as I like them, chose one of those. As I had my mum with me too this was crucial as she wasn't participating in the activities and so spent quite a bit of time in the room. For those who wanted to camp (not participants in our function) they brought tents, caravans etc and based themselves along the river edge which was close to the hall. Our activities were centered around the main hall and we had exclusive use of this although for some of the dances, had curious onlookers come to see what we were doing. The resort is located in a beautiful valley far from everywhere (about 1 hr 40 from Newcastle) but has a couple of small towns nearby one of which I believe had a small supermarket. It was great for those who want to enjoy the peace and solitude of the area. It had a restaurant, kiosk and an outdoor pool, I bought something from the kiosk and couldn't resist going in the pool as the weather was reasonable for most of the weekend (May 2021). Water was cold but it allowed me to ease my aches and pains from lots of dancing. They also had a nice seating area near the reception which could certainly be enjoyed by those wanting to read a book or have a cuppa. Activities nearby were a bush walking track near the entrance of the park and horse riding. As the hall that we were using was very open to birds flying in and out (and because of the fact we were dancing a lot and needed to keep cool the doors were always open) there was guano everywhere particularly on the walls. I suppose because of the high volumes of birds flying around they don't bother cleaning it up as it would be a losing battle but I was taken aback by this. For youth camps it would have been a great venue as they can all be kept in the one area with enough wrangling although there is a river running through the resort and near to the hall so a close eye would have to be kept on the youngest ones. Might consider staying there again but not for the said dancing weekend and only in summer as it has the potential to be very cold especially overnight.

Booked a four night stay with friends and our vans on powered sites. Only one tap to hook up to between us. Site was very far from amenities which were not cleaned regularly. Kiosk never open. Road out is dreadful. Did not enjoy our stay at all, would not recommend to anyone.

Was a lovely park, lots of things to do. The grounds were clean and so were the amenities! The cafe was extremely expensive, but I understand they are far away from everything so you expect it. They had an awesome dedicated dog menu !! It was lovely to see ! Our puppy loved it and the entire park! The front desk ladies were really lovely too! Have another trip booked for June ! Very excited to go back.

We are back from a few days a Riverwood Downs. We took our small caravan and stayed on a powered site. The area is beautiful, quiet, with activities such as hiking, canoeing, lilo-ing down the river, horse riding and cycling available. We had a pleasant few days with 3 kids. The amenities are pretty basic, but showers are hot at least. Our only real complaint was the one night we ate in the on-site restaurant - expensive and disappointing all round. I had a green curry that would've been better had it come out of jar. They'd be better sticking to burgers and chips and doing them well than offering a large and wide ranging menu that doesn't deliver - hence the low value rating.

Just back from a 3 day trip from Sydney up to Riverwood Downs. Perfect campsite, as you have a range of options. We stayed in one of the timber cabins, which are the cheapest of the cabin options here. I wouldn’t bother with the more expensive ones actually Cabin was clean and beds were comfy. Lots of spare blankets. Towels provided. Reverse cycle air con worked a treat for cold nights. Tv/microwave/full stove/bar fridge/toaster/kettle. Our friends camped and had a river campsite. That was great, as we could have a fire but they said they would’ve preferred the park site at this time of year for the full sun. They sell bags of wood there but if you’re staying for a while, you’ll need quite a few bags (we used 3 x $15 per day)c so better to have wood delivered in. We hired the canoes to go up river a little way and also the tubes to go down rapids. ($30 per hour for canoes) Staff were very friendly. One night we went to tavern for dinner, just to break up the monotony of cooking. Meals were huge and delicious. Could easily share one main between two adults. Kids meals were $14 but included drink and dessert. They loved them. The bar is actually nice and the reception area is also inviting. Heaters/fairy lights etc. Like anywhere in the countryside, you need to slow down a bit and not expect everything to happen straight away. It’s a family run business employing locals. Complaining about delays just ruins things for very one. Took a walk up the mountain but mostly happy riding bikes around, playing cricket, etc etc. We loved this place. Will definitely be back.

We were really looking forward to staying at this place as it had everything to offer that we wanted making it a hopefully relaxing break for us both. We had a Spa Cabin which was situated on the river which was a nice location. The cabin was quite dated and full of cobwebs in the ceiling. Plates in the cupboard were not clean and for the over $1600 that we paid for the few nights it was clearly overpriced for what you got. The bed was only a double. There was an additional charge of $15 a change to refresh your towels. We looked forward to dining at the restaurant each night however that was all a sham. The restaurant was to remain closed until the following Friday. We were told we could order meals through the kiosk and on one occasion we did until we realised that all of this service came at the same cost as if we were served in the restaurant in addition to preparing some parts of the meals ourselves. The kiosk was seldom open and when it was the lady behind the counter was very friendly. The canoe hire was a rip off as you are very limited in where you can paddle and for the hourly rate, the distance covered was about 600mtrs before having to turnaround. Horse riding was advertised but not available. Masseur was not available despite being told otherwise. Apparently was on a week off however there was no fill in for them. In the end we ended up travelling to Dungog and Gloucester to have a nice meal out which was clearly not going to happen at this place. Overall, nice location but way overpriced for what is actually offered/available. How the business could feel satisfied that they are offering a level of service etc that falls way short of what is shown online or their brochures and charge you full rates is very poor business.

As an older couple with a 'Romance package' at Riverwood Downs we were impressed with the resort. Visiting during the week when it was fairly quiet we found the room with it's 3 way bathroom and comfortable queen bed met our expectations. A bottle of bubbly and a bowl of chocolates were there on our arrival. We found the property easy to walk around with good access to the river. The kiosk was open daily to provide food and we had a special dinner in the restaurant on the second evening beautifully prepared by the chef. We saw plenty of hares, rabbits and wallabies but unfortunately, no platypus. The visit also gave us the opportunity to visit the historic village of Stroud, originally Australia's only 'gated ' community. All the staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is amazing. Wonderful wildlife and beautiful views. This property has once been a beautiful resort and has been left to become run down and poorly managed. As a regular traveller I would rate it as caravan park /camping accommodation (better to take all your own things and just enjoy the location). The bed in the cabin was similar to laying on a piece of cardboard over rocks. After paying to upgrade for the remainder of our stay we received slightly better facilities. The cleaning was poor, blanket rolled in a ball in the cupboard, rusty shower caddy (replacement would be cheap), dirty shower head, water undrinkable and I would not use the spa for fear of hygiene issues. Bring your own food and water as costs are exorbitant eg $14 for a Devonshire Tea. WARNINGS : dirt roads, dogs running off lead

Firstly - if you're looking for standards on a high-end level then turn away. Overall I did enjoy my stay - but they REALLY need to sort out their Restaurant/Kiosk service!! Be prepared to do a lot of WAITING and being ignored by waitstaff. Secondly - watch what you pay. I got 3 different quotes for the same room, same night - website, email and by phone. I only stayed ONE night which I got by email and phone. Quote from email vs phone call were different. Phone call was cheaper. Good Points: + Reception were lovely on phone and in person. Very friendly and the open air seated area out the front (which also doubles for dinner/drinks area is pleasant. + Large open well manicured grassy areas. It is very well maintained and safe for kids to run round. Great for walks at sunset which I did... heavenly. + Access to the pool- albeit a little small but clean... and area around it has a few seats. + Queen bed was comfy and so were the pillows. Double bunk is squashed into a long narrow part of the small room - but kids were happy so who cares - as long as they were happy. + Aircon in room - but takes a while to cool room in hot weather. + Restaurant food was well cooked... Sirloin Steak, Green Curry was delicious. + Fantastic to swim in river - plenty of grassy areas for a picnic + Wide open space with majestic mountains + Dog friendly (for those with dogs)- they are even permitted in the billiard area in front of the bar... Not So Good Points: More signage is needed at Reception and Restaurant - so many unlabelled doors and you have no idea what leads to what- let alone if you're allowed to walk in to them. We booked a table at the restaurant - all 5 of us stood there for 5 minutes waiting to be waited upon- MISTAKE!! A staff member walked past us not even asking us if we were there for dinner etc. There are NO SIGNS inside the area or instructions given to you as to what you had to do to get served , get a table or order. No signs on doors either. The restaurant section is not set out like a pub - which would make you automatically go to the bar. ALL the doors in the restaurant are all shut and unsigned. A simple Sign saying "Please go to the bar for your table" would suffice. What made it unfriendly - was that the wait staff didn't acknowledge you as they walked by... they literally looked at you and walked past. Even I ended up helping an elderly couple with instructions on how to get served and get their table as I felt sorry for them - they did what we did... waited for service.... Eventually made it the very small bar area - and told them I had a booking. Abruptly handed several menus - to grab a table and come back in to order. Went back to the restaurant seating area and realised that my reserved table had a number on it - which is the cabin room number... I think. I grabbed it anyway. The Billiard room in front of the bar area brings you back to reality that this place is a dog friendly place - but hot wet dog in enclosed spaces that have no windows - well you can imagine. Don't eat breakfast in the restaurant - Eggs Beno =$28.50. You're really paying for them to serve you.. nothing more. The kiosk is cheaper for the same food - but you have to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait to get served. You'll occasionally get a glance from the 3-4 girls from afar in the kitchen - but then you have to wait and wait and wait and wait again. You need to be assertive to say the least. Very poor management from the restaurant/kiosk perspective. Accomodation: The single family room is very dark - even when lights on. - TV is tiny - but functional. - Extra blanket inside was like one of my kids had put it in there - unfolded and stuffed in unceromoniously. - Stains on the white hand towels - off putting. TIPS: Bring your own water - like Im talking litres!- pending on how many days you're there for, as to get anything from kiosk can take a looooooong time. Bring your own snacks. Dont eat breakfast at the Restaurant. The menu for breakfast is at Reception and the prices are laughable... I think the lady at reception had a near giggle upon giving it to me ...
