We are a Backpacker-friendly hostel with Bar and Restaurant. Our goal is to provide a great service and friendly environment to everyone who enters Hospedaje Central. To accomplish that::: We have hand-crafted our restaurant's menu, offering a broad range of delicious dishes - from local cuisine to global classics; you're bound to find something you enjoy. (People love our Batidos[smoothies] too):: Our Bar is stocked with the best local liquors and a variety of world favorites as well. If you're not feeling the high-end alcohol, we also have a nice selection of "Cheap and Dirty" brews that won't be too heavy on your wallet. There are also delicious mixed drinks available for those who want to try out the local fruit concoctions. And of course, great music. Whichever type of fun you want, we can help you get there.:: If you aren't into eating, or drinking, we enjoy helping our guests plan their adventures. We have great contacts around the island to help you get what you want. Whether its traveling and making new reservations on Maderas, organizing transport, renting motorcycles or horses, simply giving directions to great beach locations or helping you Trek-Up-The-Ultimate-Volcano: Conception - We can take care of it for you.:: And most of all, if you're just into relaxing, we built an entire hostel around that concept. We have great sitting areas throughout the area, a nice garden under the sun, a reading friendly courtyard, lots of hammocks to swing in, private rooms for secluded time, and dorm rooms for the fun and friendly types. We filled the walls with paintings and culture for you to look at when you don't have a good book, and we're building a small library for you to find that good book afterwards. Overall, its a great place to hang out, people tell us all the time, and we're happy to provide this atmosphere for those who seek it.:: And for those who live on the cloud, we also have THE INTERNET. (free wifi included) We hope this helps you. Enjoy Nicaragua!-Team Hospedaje Central(El Indio Viejo) P.S. If you're not staying with us, at least stop by and say Hello, we enjoy conversation, it's a good way to learn something new!

Across The Lake to Ometepe: yet another of Nica's under-the-radar charms.
This hostel in Moyo, run by the ever-helpful Quebecoise Joana, is a great value & characterful HQ from which to foray.
The bar/restaurant is colourful (if a wee bit kindergarteny) and the bowery terrace behind fine for chilling out. Comfy enough bed & clean washing facilities.
About ten mins hike up from the boat landing, so hardly Volcan Concepcion on the lungs.

We went many times during our stay on the island, not only is this a quaint little hostel in the middle of town, it's a great meet and greet, with good food, good coffee and great free wifi to boot! Do go when on Isla de Ometepe... Hope this review was helpful!!!

I really enjoyed my stay at Hospedaje Central and all of my meals there. The management is so kind and helpful, and the Indio Viejo plate (a local specialty), the egg breakfast, and especially the coffee (sourced in-country, and even from the island when it's in season, and then roasted on-site) is AMAZING. If you're staying in the bunks or the hammocks, be sure to bring an eye mask and ear plugs, as there is a lot of noise from the restaurant and one of the bunk rooms sleeps 12.

I'm here right now - was sitting in the common area of the hostel and two men came in from the restaurant and sat at my table. One asked if my computer was mine, was I traveling alone, is that my room over there, do I have a boyfriend? I was polite at first, answering in Spanish and made it clear I did not want his company. He persisted and would not leave when I asked him to. I went into the bar area and told the staff this guy was a creep. He answered that yeah, he probably is and made no motion to correct the situation.
Bottom line, I'm alone in the dorms with no door, it's midnight and there are two creeps about 12 feet from my bed.
Also the one toilet has been covered in urine and the bathroom floor in a cm of who knows what.
I've traveled from the top of Central America down to here and never have felt so vulnerable. Do not stay here, especially not if you are alone.

stayed in a private room with bathroom for $15 - it is cheap for a reason. the room didn't appear to have been cleaned before we arrived; there was an empty coke bottle on the floor and garbage left on the desk in the room. one miniature towel was left for us (despite the fact that the room sleeps 4) which smelled rank and was stained and brown (I think it used to be white). the shower curtain looked like it hasn't been changed in years, it was disgusting. there are no screens on the window in the bathroom so mosquitos & critters can easily fly in and out of the room. the cobwebs around the ceiling were a nice touch as well but at least the spiders are doing their job as the cobwebs are caked with captured bugs.
the monkeys chained up out back are another story - whether they're rehabilitating/rescuing them or not, it is a sad environment.
oh and a local guy yelled some profanities into the window of our room around 10pm, that was nice!
overall, super weird atmosphere and we couldn't wait to check out in the morning.

For my last night in Ometepe i decided to go from other great hotels and hostels on ometepe to this. It looks nice from the outside, the bar area is very nice. but I arrived mid morning and was immediately attacked by mosquitos. something there must attract them as didnt have this issue anywhere else on the island. Saw the rooms and was dubious but thought i will give it a chance. The manager seemed very nice to begin with then went very strange talking about weird scientific rubbish that i was not at all interested in for about 15minutes without giving me a break. I managed to escape and went to the ´reserve´ in the back which is basically a disgrace, tying up monkeys for no reason. Fair enough the deers are breeding but monkeys looked like there was nothing wrong with them and they should be freed.
The dorm was dingy and damp feeling and the bathroom was an utter mess. the tap water flowed into the shower drain so you could stand remnants of toothpaste etc and there was a strong disgusting smell of urine which choked me. the shower was unpleasant in this environment. Clearly has not been cleaned in a while, oh and there was a tree coming in through the window. Beds were also very unimpressive.
I went back to the bar and tried to check my emails quietly, by the way you pay for WIFI $2 for 24 hours is so annoying when its free in other places. I got stuck listening to the old Indian/(not sure where he really is from)man who had stale beer breath and kept talking at me for about an hour. Luckily someone wanted a beer and i could run away. and thats what i did and as soon as the morning came, i paid and ran. Would never recommend this place.
Yes its cheap but its that cheap because they dont spend anything on the hostal upkeep.

Hospedaje Central is only hugely popular with the insect population. As in, some kind bed bug that leaves hundreds of really, really itchy bites everywhere. Of course, if you like three inch mattresses and looking diseased, that's your business. I do recommend Finca Porvenir (listen to the cow being milked if you ask for milk in your coffee) and the rental jeeps at Hotel Ometepl.

I just stayed 1 night and I coudnt sleep at all. First off, there was be bugs in my bad so I took another be which was basically the same thing. I couldnt sleep because of that and listen to this, one guy came into the dorm with a lintern and started looking in everybody's faces, putting this light on every face. Everybody was sleeping so I was the only one noticing it. He left the dorm and came back 2 minutes later doing the same thing, and then again. I thought he was other guest maybe the one Who had the be I was on but I couldnt see his face because the light on my face didn't let me. I tried to talk to him but he hidden himself. He left once again, turned all lights off and 2 second later a girl at the dorm yelled somebody just touched her!!!
She turned the light on and saw somebody running away... she went out and then the Guard showed up with the lintern!! acting as nothing had happened. When I just saw him I realized he was the same person putting the light on everybody's face 2 minutes before. He said he didn't see anybody else and he was checking everything was ok... the first time I've seen the guard checks if everybody is sleeping!!! And he was the only person walking around.. he was also the only person who knew how turn all the lights off!! And what for he did it? Weirddd!! He was not a nicaraguan, because of his accent he was from U. S
After bedbugs everything got even worse. I coudnt sleep. The next morning I talked to the owner and told her my immpression. She said this guard has a weird personality but he was reliable. And promised to investigate the situation.

Maybe better to stay in the hostel 50mts from here and only come for a beer. I know it is cheap but why should I stand a rude staff (4 of the 6 I talked with were very ugly, no intention of helping or at least treating you nice) and the worst bed I had traveling. The place is OK, not clean neither dirty, big dorm with a lot of beds, the staff doesn´t organize who takes each bed so you could find that someone took yours while you where out as it happened to me. Could be dangerous as there is no control of who enters to the hostel and once there no control of who can access to the room. I will go back to the island but no way I will go back to this hostel.
