#4 of 19 Speciality lodging in Arorangi
Travellers' Choice
Set in the enchanting western village of Arorangi, Castaway is the favourite farewell point of so many of our islands’ most stunning sunsets. Enjoy peace and relaxation at this lush adults-only oasis, where guests can enjoy the freedom of their self-catering rooms or dine at the on-property beach restaurant & bar. Castaway offers comfortable accommodation with rooms perfect for solo travelers, couples, families and small groups (Minimum age is 16 years and above) And if you’re looking for a little more, Castaway offers accommodation at their Beach House that’s right next door. All rooms are tastefully furnished and guests can enjoy kitchen facilities, air-conditioning, and TV in case of those tropical rainy days. Wilson’s Beach bar & restaurant is Castaway Resorts’ on-property restaurant and is considered one of Rarotonga’s Top 5 Restaurant & Bars (As per Tripadvisor) For good reason! The restaurants gourmet menu is diverse with themed nights every night of the week. From Monday: Pasta, Tuesday: A la carte, Wednesday: Mexican, Thursday: Pizza, Friday: Seafood, and Saturday: Curry. Sunday BBQs are special at Castaway, when live music is played all evening by local musicians Freddy and Pascale, and guitar talent Anania Browne. Specialty dishes like Mr Paul’s Crayfish and Papa D’s Crayfish platter are both very popular amongst the local community. An absolute must try if you want to know what all the local enthusiasm is about! Many returnees rave about the fantastic location, quirky character, relaxed ambience and the friendly, welcoming staff. Guests will enjoy personable service, as staff take the utmost care to remember your name! The resort is also close to many of Rarotonga’s best snorkeling spots, only 20 minutes from the town center, has a bus stop and convenience store across the road. The resort is also home to many unique attributes. Whale watching can be enjoyed right from the restaurant deck. Expect a free bevvy from the bar if you’re first to ring the Whale Bell! Their crayfish dishes are large, fresh and delicious – there’s nothing like it anywhere else on the island. And if that wasn’t enough, Cuban Havana Cigars can also be purchased and pairs well with their signature cocktail “The Big Kahuna” – exclusively available at Castaway. Castaway Resort is the perfect accommodation choice for travelers wanting independence of a self-catered room, or to enjoy a cocktail and delicious dinner without leaving the property.

We went here for lunch on my birthday and got chatting to Trina, she was so welcoming and friendly, as was Paul the owner, and the Crayfish Mornay they had advertised for dinner sounded so fabulous we came back for dinner that night, we got a table right on the sand just metres from the water, Trina was fabulous and had the singer play my favourite song and got the whole place singing happy birthtday. There is a genuine welcoming Raro feeling at Castaways, I didn't see the rooms, but if you are wanting to go somewhere with a spectacular location with the BEST customer service we had on the island, then this is the place. We will definitely come back

The welcome & service that we received from the Castaway staff & owners was truly amazing. With being the first international tourists to visit Rarotonga, a lot of the businesses & resorts were either closed or not really prepared for the first influx of tourists. As soon as we arrived Paul (aka the Sicilian Don) & lovely Michelle made us feel more like visiting family than paying customers. It’s incredibly hard to get that relaxed vibe & yet still have attentive & genuinely caring customer service, Castaways manages it with ease. Beautiful rooms , sumptuous meals and dangerous delicious cocktails are all served up with a smile & great humour. A very big thanks to Trina, Apo, Moeroa, Richelle & Rosally. You made our trip so memorable, enjoyable & most importantly fun! Also the Marketing Director Fe’ena often dropped in to check up with us that everything was ok. Not the usual hotel/resort service! The staff were happy to go out of their way to give out local advice & information whenever approached. We will definitely be returning & are more than happy to recommend to our friends & family. The location was great with shops, restaurants, bars & other resorts within easy walking distance. The resort is absolute beach front with a nice lagoon to swim in, lots of fish if you like a snorkel.

Just enjoyed a lovely 2 night stay! Great food, great service, great location and a very comfortable bed. Found the bar and wait staff extremely friendly, as were the reception staff! A very enjoyable stay from the time we checked in, to the time we unfortunately had to leave. Huge thanks to Paul and team!

The resort around the restaurant and bar combines every dream you have ever had of a tropical holiday but at a reasonable price. The restaurant and bar area has a Robinson Crusoe/Castaway vibe about it. The bar is called Wilson's like in the movie "Castaway" starring Tom Hanks and there is even a chair made out of a tree stump referring to the movie. The rooms were clean and spacious. There was a decent full sized fridge and a kitchen area where you could prepare your own meals if you were so inclined. The pool was inviting. The restaurant is absolute beachfront. The views every morning from the restaurant where breakfast was served were breathtaking. The breakfasts were filling and copious. The restaurant has a different menu each night from Japanese to Mexican to Pizza/Pasta. They also have fabulous fresh seafood available. We dined at the restaurant one night and had the crayfish platter. Not only was it fresh and mouthwatering but the serving was HUGE and an absolute bargain for the amount of seafood crammed onto that plate. My husband and I feasted on it and it was truly one of the most memorable nights of our holiday. The talented musician at dinner had a great varied repertoire and added to the ambience of our evening. The tropical bar is open for Happy Hour and they had the most amazing selection of cocktails. Try the Big Kahuna. It is served in a coconut. You will need to share it with at least 1 or 2 other people to get through it. The BEST cocktail I have ever had. You could swim and snorkel right in front of the resort and the snorkelling was good there. The location was great too. There was an ATM literally 100 metres away and a little shop across the road. There was also a bus stop right out the front door. We loved everything about this place but mostly the warm, kind and friendly staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. Everyone from the front desk, the cleaners, the bar staff and the staff at the restaurant were helpful, lovely, friendly and cheerful. We travelled with my elderly mother and the staff especially the lovely owners Michelle and her husband were so incredibly kind to her and so thoughtful. Thank you so much to Castaway resort. We had a fabulous time and we hope to return one day soon.
