We found this place last minute after another place let us down. So glad we did! John and Dorothy were convivial and welcoming hosts, the house is splendidly decorated, and when you know that a lot of the lighting and other fittings and furnishings were created by John, it makes it even more special. We chose to have dinner and...

Beautiful well appointed rooms ( a fireplace in the bathroom!!), friendly people, amazing views and decor. Authentic period furniture, fabulous views, excellent food and quite a bit of laughter in the evening!

We booked this hidden gem for a family road trip weekend away from Auckland & loved every minute. Hosts John & Dorothy are brilliant and made us feel so at home at this special BNB. We brought our 3 year old son which when I arrived I thought may be a challenge with all the amazing antiques John has collected...

Everything was sold out in Opononi and the Tourist Office directed us here. We feel like we lucked out. The Postmasters has lots of character and is very clean and comfortable. Rawene is great as well. Very small, but we loved it. Do the Mangrove walk and visit the James Clendon House. At the latter, try to get the history...

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely village. The Postmasters certainly has lots of character and a host with a sarcastic sense f humour which we liked. Comfortable beds and great location and good views.

We booked early to coincide with friends who migrate from Perth to this unique accommodation each year at this time. We had a fabulous two days at this heritage villa loving our en-suite room with a post bed and fascinating decor. When you book you are offered the option of an evening meal. Apart from the fact that there are...

Saw there were vacancies and stopped to inquire around 9:30. Dreadfully rude fellow answered the door. Insulted my wife multiple times in a span of 2 minutes. Told her that she wouldn't be interested in paying the room rate. Recommended a campground up the street so we took our bitcoin fortune up there where the staff was SUPER nice.

Guests and owner all in their bedrooms at 9 PM. No vacancy sign displayed. Loud banging on door at 10 PM. Got up and opened front door. Fellow demanded room at low price. Told them to try the Motor Camp. Certainly no insults from our side.

Staying at The Postmasters Lodgings is like visiting a vaguely eccentric distant relative who has spent his life collecting fine wines, books and furniture. The BnB itself is a glorious house of comfortable beds, overstuffed sofas and a deck area that could be a set from a Merchant Ivory film if it wasn't for the breathtaking view over the Hokianga....

Rawene maybe somewhat off the usual tourist track and if at all it's probably seen as the ferry landing only. However the town is lovely with several historic buildings and a nice quiet place to stay a night. Postmasters Lodgings is just across the ferry in a beautiful large building and looks somewhat like a museum from the inside. John...

Great find. John and Dorothy were delightful hosts. The book collection and antiques make for interesting conversations. The bedroom was spacious and clean. The sitting room with TV and leather sofas was a great spot to sit, read and chat. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and we were given many delicious options. So relaxing with wine, dinner and the next...

“We asked for the larger of the rooms at this guest house and it is recommended because it has a larger bathroom. Space is a bit tight in the bedroom which has a four poster bed and a fan which was very necessary as the weather was very warm and the room quite hot for sleeping. No fly screens so the fly spray was needed (and supplied).”
