Positive, Mario that looked after the pool was extremely nice and helpful and wait staff were very friendly and pleasant.Negative, I was given a room away from the main hotel across the street. It was the worst accommodation I have ever had. Upon arriving at the ground floor room the patio door was open about two inches, the room full of mosquitoes, the security lock on the door was pulled from the frame (later fixed). Cock roaches in the room. Black mold. No hot water twice, a toilet that ran all the time or had no water at all and wouldn’t flush. Housekeeping walked into to my room twice without knocking while my door was locked. No paper hanging tags available to indicate the room was occupied. I resorted to leaning the ironing board against the door for advance notice of her entrance. Front desk staff could find no availablity to change rooms. Multiple people in my building also tried to get transferred out of this sub par accommodation to no avail. If you book at the Starfish make sure it isn’t the building across the street and one block over. Nightmare. Was my second time to Cuba but I don’t know if I’ll ever go back. Was expecting food shortages but not that.

My friend and I were at Starfish Cuatro Palmas for a week and we had a good time although there are a few shortages, such as Vodka and sometimes wine at the bar. However you can buy Vodka and wine at the stores across the street. Cuba is having some hard times at the moment so you have to go with an open mind and enjoy the wonderful weather, pool, beach, entertainment and staff. There is always plenty to eat at the buffet and the 2 other restaurants. The rooms are a bit outdated but they are doing some renovations and if you are fortunate as we were to get an ocean / pool view then it is all worth it. A big shout out to Andy who works at the buffet, he is truly a great guy and to the manager Juan Pablo whom is very helpful and will help with any issues you may have. The hotel is located close to shopping, bars, restaurants and The Beatles Bar. I highly recommend Starfish Cuatro Palmas, it is my 2nd time staying there and I would return again!

OK hello my experiences has been wonderful. The staff are excellent. Your everybody is friendly we got everything you know as we wanted. My husband had a physical challenge and yet everybody helped him. It is wonderful. We enjoyed our stay and we have Rosy here who is just wonderful and helpful very personable. She has a pastor Oversight here and you know you’re so pleased with everything everything has worked perfectly and the only thing is that I would bring to your attention is the ground flow needs some renovations, some especially the inside needs a painting. It needs a lot of a lot of stuff to be done and otherwise everything has been great. Meals have been perfect. No problem at all and as I said to you kudos to Rosy you have a wonderful manager here and she’s so personable and I think if you for future trips we will contact her because she’s the best person you have so all the very best and we wish you good luck in the future .

I have been at Cuatro Palmas for three months now and it’s amazing place to stay. I love all the staff and the way they treat you is really warm and gentle and there’s so many people I would like to think but there’s a few Rosy Pancho, Marianna Maria Elena Elimay, Ivan Adriel Jose, Michael originator originator at the massageagain And then oh my the maids that have taken care of me every day for my room and watch your promises is the best place to be here Mercedes in the bar of the restaurant and the entertainment the entertainment staff is incredible. Yeah, this is the best place to be in Varadero

Great location! This is directly across the street from Calle 62, which has a lot to offer for nightlife and daytime fun, including shops, bars, open air restaurants and entertainment. It is also a half a block away from Beatles Bar, which is very convenient. There are always taxis and "coconut" taxis available just outside the lobby. Downtown Varadero is not far and shouldn't cost more than a $5 cab ride or 20 minute leisure walk. There is a local souvenir market about 4 blocks from the hotel if you make a right out of the lobby - on the same side of the street. There's more markets the further you go. The really huge market is all the way past downtown and about a 45 minute walk or $10 cab ride. Don't spend more than these prices - they try to get you to pay more, but this is the standard price. Confirm before you get into the cab - and confirm that is for everyone and the currency required (USD, CAD, pesos). Everyone wants USD and CAD. Pesos are used infrequently in a lot of places, but do hold value at local shops for drinks and tipping. In the markets you get way more bang for your buck in USD or CAD. Calle 62 is $5 per drink, but if you keep going down that alleyway/street there is another bar/drink stand that sells AMAZING mojitos for 150 pesos or $2 CAD. We were first put in room 1221, which is the second floor and faces the street - Calle 62. This seems like a decent spot, but the music from Calle 62 can become a nuisance if you are a light sleeper. It really didn't bother me, but some people on the same floor and the third floor in the same spot were woken up most nights. Our second room (moved due to a disability with stairs) was on the main floor - 1104 and was directly under the same spot as the 2nd floor spot pretty much. However, we were on the interior facing the pool, so it did provide a bit more sound deflection. The hallway in front of the room was also open air to the road, so the music could still be heard. Again, not an issue for me, but light sleepers might have a problem. The bed in the first room was not the best, but not the worst. The bed in the second room was definitely newer. This is a SMALL resort, which I LOVED, but it can be harder to get a room accommodation that works for what you're looking for or need. The hotel was fully booked the entire time we were there, so changing rooms for us took 2 nights. The pool is nice. It has a really shallow area and a deeper section that is separated by a bridge walkway you can swim under. There are a lot of pool loungers and 10 cabanas (I think). We always found a spot at the pool if we wanted it. That is mainly because if the beach is cooperating - EVERYONE GOES TO THE BEACH!!! The beach is AMAZING! There are plenty of loungers and palapas for everyone. It is raked daily and there is a security guard there 24/7. We had a big storm roll through on the day we arrived, which brought crazy winds as well as jellyfish! Like 100s. They all washed up on the shore and a red "don't swim" flag was posted for a couple days. The staff did an excellent job at clearing the jellyfish as many times as necessary. After the winds died down the water is incredible and the beach is where the action is. They had activities there on the days it was clear to swim and paddle boats/sail boats to take out. Sand fleas are a thing, but there's not much you can do about that. But spray doesn't work - just bring afterbite and calamine. The main buffet is right off the pool area. It is NOT open air. It is fully enclosed on all sides. I can see that they "could" open up doors if they wanted/needed to, but it is not just open all the time. They are doing renos in the middle section of the buffet so there is a bit more limitation on the seating. We only had one dinner that we had to wait to be seated - about 15 minutes. Otherwise you walk right in. The food is Cuban - not gourmet, not terrible. They have amazing bread and butter and pastries every meal. Eggs in the morning are always a safe bet and are delicious. Mostly pork was served and some beef. There's always some kind of fish for dinner, a lot of Mahi Mahi. Tons of fresh fruit, including papaya, guava, pineapple, apples and others. The feta and goat cheese style cheeses in the cold food section is fantastic! There is a pasta bar made to order for lunch and dinner. The meat sauce was great and other people said the white sauce was good, but I didn't try it. They have these green looking potatoes that they called sweet potatoes and I could of eaten those every single day - they were so delicious!!! The onion sausage was also a big hit. They "breakfast" style sausage that look like little hot dogs have a very weird consistency to them - be aware. Overall the food at the buffet was no issue and we always found something good to eat, sometimes with trial and error. They only had beer, pop and wine in the buffet sometimes and it didn't seem to coincide with anything regular. The snack bar is located just off the beach and open all the times that the buffet is not - even in the middle of the night. They have different things on some days, but mostly ham and cheese sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers (pork and sometimes beef) and REALLY GREAT chicken salad sandwiches. The little old man waiter here is the sweetest and really makes sure you're enjoying your food. This is also the location of the "International" A-la-carte restaurant, which is an open air eating area. The food at this restaurant was fantastic. They have a lasagna as an appetizer that everyone raved about. They served white and red wine to the table and you could request beer as well. There is also a Cuban a-la-carte, but we didn't get a chance to try it. The a-la-carte restaurants are booked in the main buffet at breakfast. Ask your waiter or waitress and they'll direct you to the person taking the reservations for the day. Go early if you want a reservation for that day. They only make reservations for each day at a time. Friday was the Cuban party at the snack bar. They had a band and dancers and a bunch of delicious food, including a roasted pig and other Cuban dishes that were really great. Don't miss it! Entertainment at the resort was good. The night shows are at 9:30pm at the stage near the pool. I saw one there that had a Michael Jackson impersonator that was great and the pool show was fantastic. On the cold nights they did a show in the lobby bar - the Dirty Dancing show was really good. During the day they had yoga and salsa lessons at the pool and there was always something going on during the day at the beach when it was safe to swim. There is also a volleyball net at the beach. The lobby bar is the main bar and it states it's open 24 hours - this is not true for all things. You can always get some form of a drink there, but after about 12-1am they close it down and alcohol is not really available. There is also a pool bar (not swim up) that does drinks during the day and a beach bar that is up on the terrace next to the beach. The beer is only good from the lobby bar. The resort is not big and a walk from the beach to lobby is less than 2 minutes. You are required to wear a shirt and footwear in the lobby bar though. i.e. no dripping swimsuits and bare feet. I went in with my dress swimsuit and flip flops and that was fine, but a shirtless guy with no sandals didn't fly. The seating area in the lobby bar and attached lobby area is very big and there's tons of terraces and couches and swings all over the resort, which is really nice. There's a pool table at the pool bar and a giant checkers board near there too. There is one other bar that is called the starfish lounge near the pool bar/cuban restaurant and it's a very intimate bar with doors that close. The bar tenders are very good in here as they are not just serving the masses, but taking time to make great drinks. A member of our crew bought his own Gin since they don't have any and they made him drinks with that which was really great. Some things that might be of interest are as follows: The maid service was decent, but they don't go above and beyond (in either room I had). The resort ran out of keg beer for about a day and they poured beer into cups from bottles. That wasn't the best beer, but we made due. The rum was always plentiful. Raul in the lobby bar makes the best iced coffee with cacao liquor. Getting new bottles of water in the room was difficult for some of us on some days, but the bar and the restaurant will always refill yours if you ask. There are fridges in all the rooms. The safes are secured with an electronic key - like a room key - that is different and separate from your room key. The air conditioners in all the rooms worked REALLY WELL. Some people didn't seem to have remotes and were stuck on frigid temps for a while, but nobody complained of being too hot in the rooms - EVER! There are TVs in the rooms with mostly spanish, chinese and russian shows. I didn't watch the TV at all, but some people found an english station. The plugs are all 110 and no adapters are needed. There were blow dryers and irons in each room. Bring a bubba/reusable drink bottle of sort as the cups are super small. They have limited glasses and they are not allowed to be taken out of the bar area. Even red solo cups would be better than the little ones they have. The bathrooms near the lobby bar were open most of the time, but were closed a few days. They had a pipe issue near there so that could have been why, but I really don't know. They were pretty clean and mostly had toilet paper. The bathrooms near the buffet are ok, but were not always the cleanest. If you go with Sunwing, the rep is there in the morning every day. I believe she leaves at noon. If you are interested in getting canned beer (Crystal), one of our crew members had an ingenious idea and would go buy some from the buses that came in to drop off/pick up people in the lobby. There is no diet pop on the resort at all. The cola they have is kind of like RC cola, but syrupy and not the best unless you mix it with liquor. Don't forget your sunscreen - that doesn't exist in Cuba!!! Bring toilet paper with you when you go off the resort. Most bathrooms have an attendant and they want $1 for toilet paper that is basically thin cardboard. There is a shortage of toilet seats on most toilets off the resort. Hands down the best resort I've been to in Cuba (I've been to three so not that much to compare to, but still some). We are already planning next year's trip to this resort. Remember, you are in Cuba. They literally cannot get shoes for months sometimes and there minimum wage is $17 a month - no, not a day - A MONTH! They appreciate items like socks, shampoo and conditioner and OTC meds like advil, cold meds, polysporin, etc. Sunsets are amazing on the beach - enjoy!

Great resort and ideal location. Staff are fantastic and the pool access and Ocean beach is phenomenal. My issue is lack of toilet paper in the public washroom areas, and the lack of good bar options as far liquor goes. There was no vodka or gin available but I have some friends who stayed at a Starfish farther down the penisula who had access to bar vodka and gin anytime, all the time so I don't understand why this is. I realize I can buy it from the duty free but many of the tourists staying there had the same issues. Otherwise I would go back again

Have been to this resort a few times. First time way back when kids were allowed. Last few trips have been adults only..I like this. Staff at resort is always warm & welcoming. Mario & his team keep the pool sparkling & the beach is outstanding. The location uptown cant be beat. Our room was so clean & it is nice how everyone remembers you. Hi Ibelkis 🥰Will always be my go to in Varadero. Food this year was not as varied as past but lots of issues for Cuba right now. Please bring clothes shoes meds flashlights or hygiene products. We took an extra bag & everyone enjoyed the gifts. 😁
