The Paradisus Varadero Resort & Spa is often celebrated for its beautiful beach locale and family-friendly atmosphere, with entertainment that keeps the ambiance lively. Cleanliness receives nods of approval, as guests appreciate the tidy rooms and grounds, though some report maintenance hiccups.
While the spaciousness of the rooms is praised, experiences with their upkeep are mixed. Service is a high point, with commendable staff attentiveness, but the resort's value proposition faces criticism over food and amenity quality, with some travelers questioning the price point.

Overall good service, hotel room are specious, good air condition, we were provided with enough room/beach towels. Room was cleaned every day and when asked for anything additional (towel, bottled water or toilet paper) it was provided. Food was good, there was pork and fish on the grill every day. Out of 7 day we have enjoyed fries for 4 days, one night there was roasted turkey, another roasted pork. There were always rice, couscous, tropical fruit and ice cream. Every day for breakfast they had multiple eggs , cold cuts, cereal and fruit station. There were no hamburgers but there were hot dogs for few days. They had nice pumpkin cream and chicken soup. We did experienced shortage of hot water for 3 days but before we left problem was solved as last two days water temperature was ok. We would recommend to hotel following: 1) please add garbage bins at the beach so there is less litter (employees will have easier time to keep this amazing beach clean) ; 2) pasta station - please add more tomato sauce option 3) better control of mosquitos. We would recommend for all fellow Canadians to have some gravol/electrolytes ready as we did had issue with stomach for 3 days. Hotel store does sells salty crackers and chips so that was very helpful however it is expensive. We would recommend not to change $ CAN or $ USD to pesos as store is not taking local currency. If you go to Varadero or Havana then you need some. If you want to tip best option is $USD specially $1 as they can not do anything with tonnies or loonies. We would like to thank all bar ladies for keeping us hydrated with sparkling/mineral water and also to an amazing plumber Mr. Louise Felipe for helping us with some plumbing issues during our stay! He was very quick with response and saved us right when we needed the most! We would also like to thank Receptionist, concierge and beach bar staff for making this vacation better then we have expected it! Have a great season! We would recommend this hotel! :)

Chic hotel, the atmosphere is super, the beach is huge, the deckchairs are enough for everyone, the service is no, but there is a presence! Unlike bella vista iberostar, there's toilet paper in all the toilets, no morning uneaten mixed into salads for lunch, and every day towels are changed. The pools are being cleaned, the beach is being cleaned up. The grounds are large, old, but very well maintained. The staff are friendly, surprised that they always go to meetings and decide quickly. No jellyfish seen. Mojitos and pinacolades aren't always there, but this is Cuba, but there's champagne and beer. There are few Russians, but tour agencies do not offer this hotel to ours. The airport is 40 minutes. There is a store on site with pads, shampoos, rum and cigars. By Cuban standards, this hotel is posh. There is milk, napkins, sugar and salt not put on the table, served on request, after a day they prepare seafood, for breakfast there is always an egg, milk with cereal, and yogurt. Delicious cheeses. The child is saved by macaroni, we take cheese separately from the tray and ask the woman by the stove to make macaroni and cheese without tomato. Fruit is delicious: papaya, guava, pineapple, watermelon. Vegetables: Tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, cabbage. The room has gel and shampoo (cans say Melia), iron and ironing. For $33 a night, we changed our oceanfront suite with ocean views, which is buildings 26, 27, 28, 31. At the beach they entertain with aerobics, there is a spa and gym with exercise equipment, a kids club, but we were not there, we did not get out of the water) In Cuba we 3 times, this hotel is very liked.

We started our trip with 4 days in Havana in a Casa Particular and have been at Paradisius for 3 days. We took 2 sea view rooms: the view is superb! The +: magnificent beach, spacious room and in good condition. The -: everything else! Rooms: no hot water. Our children's room on the ground floor has cockroaches all the time. Meal: a horror! Never eaten so badly in my life and in all my travels around the world! We know the difficulties of Cuba but that does not justify the taste of the dishes!!! It’s often inedible! As for the content of the buffets, there are lots of things (we don't always know what they are) but there aren't any good local things! No avocado, no coconut, no lime, rarely mango and the watermelon is not ripe! No fruit juices squeezed or cut with water. Rarely fresh fish and no typical dish. In short, a basic international buffet (even Flunch is better). The placemats are often dirty, the plates are in one place for the entire restaurant, for the drink service you often have to wait a long time. A la carte restaurants: we are told that they are full but they mostly seem closed! The restaurant near the beach: it’s even more horrible. The bars: cocktails are pretty much okay but not too much choice, no fresh fruit juice, espresso coffee yes and good too!!! Teenagers: no entertainment for them. No disco. In the evening: some entertainment + or - depending on the evening (great Cuban music group). The staff: very variable. Some are adorable, others think you're "American" and only think about getting tips from you. To finish on an eco-friendly touch: the few showers for rinsing off the sand are broken or constantly flowing (incredible waste of water), the plastic cups litter the sand (shame on the tourists who leave them) and are not even not collected by the hotel during the day. In short: very far from a 5 star…Really disappointing for a Melia.

The worst hotel I have been to of this type by far. When you go to the buffet for breakfast, you see the birds eating the fruit that you are going to pick to eat. Most tasteless fruit and juice. When something runs out, especially if it's within the last hour of the buffet, it's rarely replenished. The drink is almost impossible to get cold, unless you add ice (I don't recommend it at all). Poor hygiene, in general. In the room, if we start with the toilet, dirty, the sink faucet turned from right to left or vice versa. No plug in the sink, nor in the bidet (which there was). The shower, with little water strength and you had to wait a long time for the hot water to come out (the first day we used the shower, no hot water came out). They do not provide hand towels, only one bath towel per person. The room itself was dirty, with cobwebs and dust from a century ago. On two occasions, they left us without sheets. In another, dirty and torn sheets (attached photos). Other times, they did not replenish the water we had to put in the minibar and drink really cold water (it was the only way to drink cold water, without ice). The only thing that this 5-star hotel has is its price, otherwise, it doesn't even reach a beach bar. All this was said to the hotel's customer service, and to a person in charge of the dining room. At night, when you go to the bungalow, you must carry your cell phone or a flashlight to be able to see, because there is hardly any lighting. The attentive and friendly service, but not very decisive, gives the impression that the problem comes from the hotel management, which does not do anything to correct all this, so the staff will do little to solve it for you. In short, to forget, our stay in Varadero was bitter (it was not like that in the hotel we stayed in, from another hotel chain, previously in Havana) and we will not return.

The beach was really nice and the rooms (not the reserve or royal rooms) are close to the beach. The food availability timewise was not great - the buffet had a late supper time and the only food available in between was the snack bar which offered the same selection (fries, hot dog, burger, sandwich) everyday 24/7. The food at the snack bar was okay - our biggest complaint was that there was not much for quick grab and go snacks (such as fruit). This made it a bit annoying for travelling with young kids who needed a snack between 3 and 7pm but did not necessarily need a full meal. The cleanliness of the hotel was lacking. Bird poop on chairs, spills not cleaned up quickly, dead fish left for days in the koi pond, trash left on the ground for a whole week, overflowing beach garbages, were some of the main issues. Many of the serving staff were not very friendly and the service was terrible on a regular basis as we often did not get water refills, could rarely get a spoon for icecream at the table even after asking more than once for a spoon, and we often felt like a burden to the staff. There were a few staff that were very friendly and enjoyable. The man who teaches zumba and yoga is lovely and all of the kid program people were great. The kids mini disco every night was awesome and the shows were good with variety. Our room was disappointing - although our housekeeper was nice. The showers were ice cold (the reserve side had hot water) 95% of the time and that was true to our room and the two other rooms of the people we travelled with. It was really unfortunate on days that were cold due to rain and wind as you could not warm up with a shower. The pools were also unheated and ice cold (would be fine if it was above 30C outside). Many of the features are getting rundown and dated. We also only had a single sheet on top of a mattress protector as covering the actual mattress. We had a second sheet on top of this but our other travel mates did not have on some of their days at the resort. The lighting outside in the evenings on the paths were minimal and we often used our phone flashlights to move around after 6pm when the sun set. There was often shortages of items which we had expected. The ability to book a restaurant was also not user friendly. They open reservations for the week on the Monday; if you show up on Thursday the time slots for the restaurant will likely be already filled and you will have to eat at the buffet (which was often sub par and felt very unclean as serving utensils were used for multiple food items and birds were often eating from the displays). The website advertises multiple restaurants open but in reality they only had two or three of the A La Carte restaurants open a week. This may have been a timing thing or a staffing issue. Overall, we enjoyed the people we were with and the beach; however, we will likely not be visiting Cuba again and certainly don't recommend this resort.

We stayed at this hotel in January 2025, the worst experience ever, we have traveled all over the world but this is horrible. The food was a disaster, we were left hungry, my family and I lost 5kg in 9 days, so whoever wants to go on a paid diet should come to this hotel, the food is delicious, the quality is very poor, the quality is terrible. The pools are too cold to be cleaned, most of them were not even working, the hotel needs a complete renovation and does not even deserve a 2*...! The service is a disaster, the staff is very unfriendly and everyone expects a guy to do nothing for nothing, for frowning and rudeness, the only bright spot is the beach. The sea is very cold in January, so I would not recommend people who want to swim to not go to the island during that period, especially to this hotel. The cleanliness of the rooms is at a modest level, it is obvious that the rooms are worn out and ready for renovation, everything is broken, screws are falling out everywhere... a lot of things are unsafe to use, especially for children!

My wife and I are returning visitors to Cuba, despite all the information’s we were getting left and right about the food, the power failure and more, we decided to go and see it for ourselves. We took a big chance as we decided to go for just about 3 weeks. Well, we have to say that we were amazingly surprised. We decided to go to the Paradisus Varadero since we had been there before and evaluate if we would ever go back to Cuba in again in the future. It all began the minute we got of the bus. We were welcomed with a nice glass of sparkly wine. We were then directed with the little shuttles to the Royal area, it was the first time that we booked it. We usually stayed on the regular side ocean view in the pass. As soon as we got there we were looked after by the people working in this area. Our room was quite large with a great outside shower. We got there late so we decided to go to bed early. When we got up the next morning, we showered with hot water, there was power everywhere, we did our little tour of the resort to verify how everything seemed to be. The grounds were perfect. We went to the main lobby of the hotel to look at the buffet, all was good they had eggs and everything else you need for a good breakfast for adults or kids. We finally went back to the Royal side for breakfast, and it was the same thing, you could find anything you wanted for breakfast, and it was good. Basically. It was like old times when we went to Cuba. The regular side was excellent, the reserve side (family side) was quite busy and the people we spoke to were having a blast. On the reserve side, the indoor buffet was open for breakfast and for lunch. For lunch, they had chicken, beef, pork, fish Calamari, lettuce, cheese and much more stuff. For diner they had to go to the main buffet, but it was great. For lunch, they always have great food at the beach gazebo and once a week they have a Canadian day and one Cuban day. On regular days you can also have beef, chicken fish and much more. Well, the beach at this resort is breathtaking and so safe for kids. It has lots of great sitting area with sun or shade. The a la Carte restaurant were opened on different nights and the food was perfect. The Italian was nice, my favorite. (I like pasta). Once a week for diner they have a special Canadian get together diner at a different spot, it could be another nice resort or the Marina market/theatre. We went at the one at the Marina and a great time with a super music show with dancing and acrobatic couple performing a talented prestation of strength and balance. On a personal base, we were there for Valentines Day and on that same day it was our wedding anniversary. They surprisingly organise a little celebration at the beach for my wife and I and it was lovely, they even brought some music and played our wedding song. So, from the moment we got there everything was fantastic, the animation is great the Gym is awesome and in excellent condition with perfect equipment for cardio or weight.

Need to read!! Let me start by saying that we have been to Cuba many times, and I really expectations were realistic but this resort fell short of all expectations. I’ve never went to a . resort before where I seriously considered contacting the travel agent to have us moved. We didn’t end up doing that and made the best of it but please read. The hotel is extremely dated and is in much need of a facelift, I can handle that, but it’s worth noting. Throughout our week stay with our two young children the air conditioning in our room stopped working at least three times for hours on end. The rules have a weird step, which makes them very unsafe for young children., Or older people. The Buffet not only has almost no selection. It’s ours are crazy. It doesn’t open until 7:30 PM for dinner. This is supposed to be a family resort. That was after our daughters bedtime and was a struggle every day. There was only two stations which cooked anything fresh and most of the time one of them is closed. everything in the Buffet was put out about an hour before it opened so it was ice cold before people were allowed in. I have never been to a Buffay with so little selection, zero cheese, no bacon, beef, or really anything other than grilled chicken and grilled pork with zero seasoning. The à la carte restaurants were slightly better, but the booking process was very annoying and they would only let you book on Monday even though it didn’t take into account what day you arrived. The Japanese restaurant where they cook in front of you was a nightmare, there was no air-conditioning, and people had to walk outside to be able to breathe. Also, the food there was extremely disappointing. There was very little entertainment, and the stage is under construction, so there was no live shows. We booked with a Air Transat, and never once saw our agent in order to help us out. The only saving grace was that the beach is beautiful. Not only would I not return to this hotel or a Varadero it also gave me a bad taste for Cuba, which is disappointing as we have been so many times and loved it.

Good afternoon! Stayed at the hotel for 11 days from the end of December 2024 until the first of January 2025. Took a long time to pick a hotel. Stayed on Paradisus because of its wonderful beach with palm trees and the opportunity to live in a bungalow near the ocean. The hotel's open-to-the-ocean layout was also bribed - the ocean is visible from the reception area, the main restaurant is also located opposite the beach.
The food was quite varied, but to catch the whole range it is better to come to the beginning of the corresponding meal. In particular, hamon and a variety of Spanish cheeses, mussels, squid, red fish (like sashimi) were present. The fruit was quite delicious (ripe) papaya. There were no lobsters or shrimp.
Rum poured down the river in all its diversity, and there were mojitos and pina kaladas. At the same time, if there is a preference for a particular type of rum for cocktails - you need to tell the bartender, otherwise unseasoned white rum can be poured. The quality of bartenders depends on shift and time of day. It seemed that the day shifts in the main bar (predominantly “women”) worked better than the evening shifts (“men”). Getting a quality cocktail tonight was problematic.
The room was cleaned well, but the water and beer in the minibar were occasionally forgotten to put. The bar started filling up better after they put a dollar in it.
Regarding the service - I would like to note its strength and express special thanks to manager ROSE ELENA, who speaks excellent Russian, professionally understands all issues, provides the necessary assistance and is simply a good, kind, open person.

This hotel is nothing but breathtaking the grounds are immaculate the staff are amazing!
I would highly suggest if you are travelling to this resort to upgrade to the reserve if you have family and royal if you have no kids with you. We booked the reserve side so you check in not at the main lobby, if you are coming by taxi let them know or they will drop you off at the main lobby. Once you arrive at the reserve side it is more elevated you have your own lounge area and bars away from the main resort. I will say it’s a little walk to the main resort but our kids 3 and 6 had no issues with walking and anytime you want a golf cart they will get one for you!
We had a room overlooking the swim up pools and it was great, we truly were hardly ever in the room other than to sleep, and we had no issues at all, ac was great, showers and baths hot, room always cleaned new towels every day, they don’t give you beer everyday unless you tip but that didn’t bother us at all.
I would highly suggest bringing USD or canadian more than you think you need as credit card is accepted no where really in veradero and the hotel only will allow you to take out pesos from them which are worth nothing to anyone there so you get ripped off if you have pesos…
we did 4 a la carte dinners all of which were amazing the food was stunning, and the italian margarita pizzas were perfection! For the reserve side you also have your own buffet we ate there for breakfast and some dinners we never did the main buffet, as with ours we always had fast service no lines and dedicated wait staff.
Around the reserve area they had some great music, in the evenings and they have an outdoor bar that is open by the a la carte so we would sit there in the evening and have some champagne before dinner.
The beaches were insane we have been all over the caribbean but this hotels back thales the cake! The entertainment staff always had something fun going on at the beach, we did an ocean workout one day. The cuban day at the beach restaurant is so great, there is always a party and something happening around!
For the bars during the day they are having shortages with cups, so bring your own otherwise you get tiny cups that start to fall apart… but the drinks were all great. For lunch we always ate at the pool snack bar our kids were a bit picky, but we loved the tuna sandwich ate it every day and the kids loved the hot dogs and they would make us ketchup and some fries.
one thing we were asked for is clothes, seems this is a hard thing for them to get we left behind like all our kids stuff, so something to think about when going is to pack extra things to give out then are so thankful for it.
We will be coming back yearly for sure, this place was more than a dream for our family, we loved it all, and can’t say enough good things about it, again book the reserve side I did hear the normal side is not the same and this could be where my review differs from others.
happy vacationing!
