Currently here. There is very little food. No eggs, no bread, no oatmeal. No bacon. They have a pasta station, some chicken balls and a little ham. Same thing everyday. Food is always cold. No bowls for even cereal. Limited quantities of everything including deserts. Coffee not available at most places except breakfast and lobby bar. No pop. A little sprite sometimes. Service is below expected but about average for Cuba. Rooms okay not great. No tub. Shower is cold water. Not much in the entertainment but there is some. Massages are 55 us. With half off discount. Beach is great water is nice. Under current conditions I would say this is no better than a 3 star resort. If you pay more than a thousand dollars you could do better.

First off, this is our 6th time to cuba and 3rd year in a row to Varadero. Different resort each time. AGain first time to the Del Mar. We wanted a swim out room experience. Having stayed at the Paradisis Varadero two years ago on the Royal side(highly recommend) what ever resort(up grade), we thought we would try the Del Mar. The Swim Out Pool area on the Royal side was fantastic. We really enjoyed it. We would normally spend all our time at the beach. However this year the Jelly Fish came late. The first two days we have higher breezes and a bit rougher seas. By day 3 we had a nice calm day and although there were a few Jellys on the beach, none in the water as we spent a lot of time in. Nice beautiful beach and this is what you come to Cuba for. And the Cuban People. Now, before I proceed further, I want to tell a story so you understand the tough time Cuba as a country is having. I met a very nice elderly couple from Comox BC who were Nomadding across Cuba. Met them in Downtown Varadero. They just reached Varadero that day. I was not dumb to this but they enlighten me a bit so let me pass it along. They asked me if we were staying at an all inclusive. I said yes we are. They said is there ample food there to eat. I said of course. They told me they darned near starved to death crossing Cuba from small village to village. The Cubans in these villages told them all the food etc is going to the resort areas to feed the tourists. In some places they had not seen milk in 6 to 8 months. And so, yes we had a few issues at the Resort. However at the expense of the rest of the Country, we did not starve. We ate well. We drank well. We had no butter for many days. Big deal. We knew this well ahead of booking Cuba. So towels in the room. Yes we only got clean towels maybe every 3 days or so. This is not because they dont want to give clean towels. I think it was clean sheets or clean towels. where do you want them to use the limited detergent they have. I do use the same towel at home for 5 days in a row. It is a bit tough as down there you shower 3 times a day sometimes. But tough luck. We sucked it up and we are going again next year. Our toilet ran. But the tank apparatus is behind the wall tile and it is not an easy fix. So we lived with it. Most every day we had hot water. The shower was finicky, but we made it work. Didnt deter us from having a hoot. Service on the Royal side was very good. We went a night to the main lobby bar where the cigar shop was. They had super great drink service here. No waiting at all. The Royal lobby bar was great also. Could get a bit slow but were in Cuba. Smoke a cigar and get over it. The beach was beautiful. The Jelly fish came late this year. So with high breeze the first few days there were jelly fish all over the beach. A few days later we were in the water and it was wonderful. That is why we come to Cuba. The beaches man. Further to this, no bid crowds. Not like in Mexico. It was semi busy, but always room any where you went. NO AMERICANS. Not that I have an issue with them but the space you have, always a pool chair or beach chair. Fantasic and this is why we come to Cuba. Yes they ran out of Vino Blanco a few times. They seem to have more the next day. We just switched our poisen and all was good. Bacon was scarse but I did get some at the Royal side several days in a row. Smoked salmon for breaky. Lots of food choices. I love watermelon but you wont find any here. Again i love pineapple and so was no problem. My opinion of the nightly entertainment or shows is not that high. But they try their best. Go here, enjoy it. We had issues at the Iberostar Varadero last year. But we loved it. We wanted a swim out room and that is why we changed. Otherwise I would have gone back to it. Great times. These resorts are all aged. Always an issue here or there. The internet sucks. I worked a fair bit off my phones. I just paid the roam like home charges. All my calls came in. Also upgrade to the royal sides or as high as you are able. Do not book less than a 4.5 star in Cuba. This is my recommendation. Go to Cuba and love it. The Alberta Quinns

We went for 7 days in January this year, the weather was only warm for a few days but still had a great time, rooms were clean service was good and staff very friendly, we were treated very well by Leo as he made us feel like family and always checked in with us to make sure we were having a good time. Leo always updated us on events at the hotel and was a great source of information and always helped us with every question we had. The food in the buffet was just ok, with some shortages but always had something to eat and the snack bar had burgers and fries which were good, but all the al la Cartes were very good. We did go to a few resturants off resort in Verdaro that were excellent especially Terazzo Cuba. Thank you Leo for making our holiday special.

We booked a 14 day stay in the Royal Service Suite through Sunwing Vacations. Upon arrival we had no towels in our room the bar fridge was empty, no robes or umbrellas were in the room and we had absolutely no hot water. Finally after 2 moves we were in a suite that did have hot water but we had to contend with a leaky ceiling that eventually was fixed days later. Our bar fridge was never restocked with beverages during our stay and we had to continually advise our butler. Hot tubs throughout the Royal Service upgrade areas were not functioning anywhere. We had no eggs for the first week of our holiday and beverage such as Cola were consistently in occasions unavailable for drinks. Things did start to improve during our second week when senior management made an appearance at the resort. It was disappointing to have paid for a Royal Service upgrade and the amenities paid for were not received. Resort staff were pleasant and helpful and everyone on the resort was pleasant to deal with. Food overall was quite good other than not having eggs initially. We were at this resort 5 years ago and stayed within Royal Service and our stay was excellent since all amenities were available and functioning at that time.

To start off with, we are a couple that gives credit when credit is due but we also give feedback when things are less than acceptable. We know that Cuba has had its struggles in the past few years and were expecting the odd ripple in our vacation, but we did not expect what we were about to experience. We just arrived back on February 6th, 2024. Right from the check-in experience, I didn't have a good feeling. When we arrived, it was a busload of people. I was fortunate enough to be one of the first ones off the bus and proceeded to the counter. I was greeted and asked to hold on for a "momento". Well, for 45 minutes I waited as she went back and forth, helping others, totally ignoring me. I gave up and went back into another line to start all over. I was not happy!! We were with few other couples traveling, and they proceeded to the back of the line as well. Well, after checking in, (90 minutes later)we all proceeded to our rooms and agreed to meet at the bar to try a cocktail or two. The room was clean and somewhat acceptable, but a few things needed to be addressed. The door on the patio would not lock, which is something that needed to fixed asap and the TV did not work. This is something that wasn't mandatory, but would be nice to have. The room smelled musty and wet, but the air conditioner was on, so I just kept that in the back of my mind. When we met up with the others in the bar later, to get a shock from one of our friends. They found a cockroach scooting around their room when they started to unpack. They weren't coming for a drink, they were on the way to the front desk to get this corrected!! As the days unfolded, a number of issues kept reoccurring. Water in the room was never replenished daily. After numerous calls to the front desk, asking the maids (which they told us they don't look after) we resorted to taking our own coffee mugs to the nearest bar and refilling our water bottles on our own. Towels were not refreshed daily, we had to use the same ones for two or three days. When I asked the maids, their response was "not today, tomorrow". Well, tomorrow never seems to come. We requested a bath matt, as one wasn't in our room....same response. Bedding was changed once, in the two weeks we were there. It's bedding...change it and wash it. There was lots of bedding in their storage closet and water and machines to wash it. Food, well here we go again. Out of the three al a cartes.....only one was worth going to. The Japanese was fantastic!! The Italian was acceptable, but the Internation was terrible. They don't give you a menu, only two options for appetizer, main course and dessert. I might as well went to the buffet....maybe not !! The buffet - nothing was labelled, so you didn't know what was in front of you. NEVER any butter for your bread. Almost everything was cold in the warming trays, if anything at all. One night we arrived at the buffet as we came back late from an excursion, only to find trays empty!! Not even a choice of what to eat, just leftovers. No bacon in the morning for breakfast. The batter that was used for the omeletes was made from pancake batter. In the two weeks that we were there, the only egg I saw was a hardboiled one. This is a 5 star resort?????? To find coffee in the morning was another chore. Some mornings the lobby bar "might" have it, it's a 50/50 gamble. Everywhere else didn't, so it's wait for the buffet to open at 7:30. To ask for a "cola" to have with my drink, somedays yes, somedays no. I guess it whiskey or rum and "Fanta". We have been to Cuba before, so I packed 6 cans of Pepsi in my suitcase, so I could at least enjoy a few drinks with mix. The beach was acceptable, but not fantastic. The seaweed was raked into piles, but left there. A tractor came down once to take it away, after day 10 of 14. They could have done a better job of cleaning up the beach. There was no excuse for this. No shortage excuse here. They had plenty of workers and they had rakes (they had rakes to maintain the grounds). I had been to a neighboring resort to go scuba diving, and had to walk in from the shore, and their beach was beautiful. Clean, no seaweed, nice chairs. It was spotless.....again no excuse. The hotel was the Blau Varadero (another 5 star resort) like the Paradisus Del Mar was supposed to be. Don't get me wrong with this resort, the staff were very nice and "most" of them did the best with what they had to work with, but if they can't provide a service level of a 5 Star resort, don't label it as a 5. We paid a lot of money for a 5 Star resort, to help ensure that we get a 5 Star experience. If we knew that we were only going to get a 2 Star...3 at best expe rience, I would have paid a lot less. We were in Cuba in November 2022 and stayed at the Memories Jibacoa, which was rated as a 4 1/2 Star. The Memories was by far, and I mean by far superior to this place. I recommed the Memories, not this place. The only reason we came to the Paradisus was that we were traveling with other couples and agreed on this "5 Star". It was in Varadero (needed to experience the beautiful beaches of Varadero). In closing, all I can say, is that I was very disappointed. If you want a good 5 Star resort, look elsewhere. Next time I return to Cuba, it will be the Memories Jibacoa. At least I know what I'm getting.

Good stay at the Paradisus! The standards must be different in terms of the room installation. When it comes to the staff and hospitality, they are great! Thank you Marialys for the yoga class. Very relaxing! Thank you Pepe, Brandy and Manuel for the sunny catamaran vibes!
