This was a BEAUTIFUL Resort. The food was excellent. The staff was very friendly & pleasant. There was one staff member in housekeeping Mayday Aldama she was excellent, she was always ready to help us with anything we needed. Mayday was #1 she made our stay so enjoyable. All the beautiful bed arrangements on our bed every day were wonderful. What a joy to be around. She is definitely a true Asset to your company. We fell in love with her. Thank You Mary @ John. We Love You Mayday. 💐😘❤️

Just got back from our first of what we hope to be many more visits to Cuba- we stayed at the sanctuary at grand memories in bungalow building number 33 and if you have ever experienced this they come with a “butler” who is assigned exclusively to that building and in our case Norvi and the alternate Jose Mario made our trip, we have travelled literally around the world and have never experienced this kind of consistent quality service- they are great examples of front line service and truly represent the faculties. Omar the lifeguard at our beach was an experience on to himself. Our guides for two of the tours we took were also exceptional- Ray on the one day trip to Havana along with the special things he arranged and “OD” on the “Sugar, Rum, Cigar” tour also made some great memories for us- Our butler Jose Mario who arranged a classic car tour for to go along friends ( one who was 88) to Varadero and the driver also named Jose was a gracious host, driver, guide ; all which made this a very special trip- in general the Cuban people are , kind, generous, patient and is perhaps the number one reason for our wanting to return. Of course a close second was the resort itself and the whole “Sunwing” experience- thanks all and we look forward to seeing you again

Returned to Sanctuary again and pleased to recommend again. Excellent value for money overall. No problems at all with the large rooms, the food was good throughout and the amenities lived up to expectations. Our concierge Ronald was professional and helpful throughout our stay, the staff members (maids, food and beverage, entertainment, front desk, beach) were friendly and capable at all times and the product delivered was high quality. Experienced Cuba travellers know that shortages are prevalent now and we certainly heard tales of that at the airport from those who visited elsewhere. At Sanctuary, any shortages were minimal and short-lived. We ate at the Sanctuary restaurant each night and enjoyed the offerings. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, lunch was convenient and substantial and dinner was varied and tasty. The entire food and beverage team worked very well under the positive example and leadership of Juan Gabriel Bautista. He was everywhere and always met you with a smile and kind words. They work wonders with what they have and we loved the smoked salmon, the omelettes, the Cuban soup, the pasta etc. etc. The drinks were also high quality and were enjoyed immensely. We enjoyed our trip into Varadero (the $5 bus service is quite a deal, though it was very, very busy) and the trips in the fantastic old cars. Cuba day was fun with a great band over at the beach grill and Canada day didn't disappoint around the pool. Overall, the entertainment options were excellent with wonderful Cuban musicians performing every day or night. We did not eat dinner at the larger Grand Memories but there are a few nice options up there too depending on what you are looking for. We love Cuba and its people from whom we have so much to learn from with regards to joy, gratitude and living life to the fullest no matter the circumstances. The staff at Sanctuary will treat you with kindness and friendliness, the beach is lovely, the resort is everything you would need for an all-inclusive vacation and, overall, offers great value for money. Again, we'll be back. reminder: bring US $1s and Canadian $5s for tipping and health and wellness products (acetaminophen, ibuprofen, toothpaste etc), school supplies and clothing are always truly appreciated

Visited Sanctuary Varadero February 15 - 22 as a couple and a friend joined us. We had a lovely, relaxing vacation. Overall a great trip. Cuba is still recovering from the pandemic but the people are lovely, the beach in Varadero beautiful, it feels very safe and costs much less than the DR or Mexico. The staff at the resort worked hard and were very friendly. Our concierges, Jose Mario and Norvi took good care of us, made restaurant reservations and when asked for more water ensured we were taken care of. Even though my friend was in a different building, with her own concierge, they made reservations for her as well. We were pretty low maintenance for them. The servers at the Sanctuary restaurant were all great, very kind and friendly. Melli at the Sanctuary bar was lovely whether we were asking for wine or a latte. The women running the poolside bar were efficient and fun. We were fortunate to have two, very calm, 30C days spent at the beach and the ocean was warm and perfect for swimming in. We enjoyed the beach on the windy days as well. The pool was pristine, if a little cold ( to be expected in winter). The loungers around the pool were new and very comfortable, however at the beach at least 1/3 of the loungers were broken. When we got a newer one they were comfortable. Yes, the resort is showing it’s age and the rooms are in need of some renovations: although the bathtub looked new, the separate shower leaked if we didn’t lower the water pressure, and one afternoon when it was very windy and rainy there was a leak in the bedroom window and a little water ran down the wall and pooled on the bedroom floor. We had plenty of hot water. There are shortages of both bathroom and beach towels so if you feel you need those changed daily, you will be disappointed, however we got fresh room towels after day four and were okay. Yes, there are shortages of some food and beverages so there was less variety, however servings were generous and we never felt hungry. They might run out of white wine one day, or red the next, or beer the next, but that only lasted until the following day and there was never a shortage of rum. We tried the gourmet restaurant (not a great experience as there was a very large table being served at the same time so all other tables waited a long time for food), the Asian restaurant (my favourite, with a lovely sushi appetizer), the Italian (very generous portions) and the Cuban restaurant (also good). The chefs do pretty well with the limited variety of options. We really enjoyed the food and service at the Sanctuary Restaurant. Check-in and check-out were unfortunately the least well managed part of the stay. Sanctuary check in is in a separate building from the main Grand Memories entrance where the bus drops you and there were no staff around to explain to quite a few of us that we had to wait for the golf cart to take us and our luggage to the other section, and then only one person on reception at Sanctuary doing both check-in and check-out at the same time. Lots of hurry up and wait. On check-out one of the two carts was broken so although we were waiting for the bellboy that we booked the night before to assist with hauling our luggage down three flights of stairs, they never came nor did anyone bother to call to let us know we were on our own. Still, the other cart driver did all he could to help make up for it.

Too awful to put into words, but in a nutshell, it definitely is not a Sanctury! Filthy, run down, depressing dark rooms, filthy, old bathroom, sewage leaking in grounds. We changed our “Junior Suite” for another room which was just as bad. We contacted our Rep, it was a case of “get us out of here or a flight home please”. We left having endured 1 night. This Hotel should not be promoted by Tour Operators,
