I would not suggest and warn others on buying any packages, full of lies and empty promises. Royal Platinum Supreme member here. Never picked up by a limo as promised a van with other people, forget about helicopter. Guarantee of two royal villas montly, also not true, golf cart with any accommodation, nope. All in a contract but apparently means nothing. After spending almost 6 figures and 3 "upgrades" still not recieving what was contracted for in writing, be aware it's a scam they always have excuses of why you don't get what you paid for previously.

Travelled with my husband and two kids. 9Y and 11Y. Sunwing vacation, everything was on time and service was good on the way there. Coming home we were delayed by one hour. Not too bad. No WIFI and you for food fyi. However your luggage is included in your flight, so no additional expenses there. I have been to Dominican three times. First time to Puerto Plata. Two years ago I went to Fantasia with my family. I would give that experience a 4 star. Just so you have a comparison when reading my reviews. Check-in: ⭐️ ⭐️ Language barrier. The gentleman we had serving us was kind but struggled with some questions. FYI if you loose your band it’s $200 USD to replace. Replace your lost room key: $50 USD. We had to sign a form agreeing. Very dated reception. If you want the safe it’s $3 USD per day. Bell Hop Boys: Very kind, took us to our room with no issues. Internet: No stars. There isn’t any. You need to pay $45 USD for 7 days. One device. Head to the pharmacy on the resort, and buy a $15 USD SIM card. Pop yours out, put this one in. It’s per device. Room: ⭐️ ⭐️ Serves its purpose. It’s dated, and shower was a bit grimy. Beds are comfortable. Room is small compared to what I am used to, but we’re there to sleep in it. Not hang out. You get one beer and one non-alcoholic beverage in the fridge upon arrival. Housekeeper will give you water each day, but nothing else. Casablanca: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This restaurant is open until 4am. This was good as we had a late flight. Served fries, hot dogs which were super soft, almost soggy. My kids couldn’t eat them. Burgers: my husband ate it, I liked it, but not cooked enough for me. We stalked up on some buns just in case we woke up hungry lol. Breakfast buffet was amazing that’s what bumped up the star review. Omelette station, smoothies, yogurt, cereal, fresh fruit. So many options. Lunch buffet was decent. Dinner was a different theme every night. So a couple different items were being served. Wait staff would change out ladles after several uses, masks were still being worn, and hand sanitizer used upon entering buffet. They are really trying to minimize exposure to illness which is great to see. A La Cartes. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ You can pick three for the week. Bookings are between 9am-11am at guest services. If you go back at 3pm and they have had cancellations you may be able to squeeze in more. We did Asian, Italian and Mexican. Mexican was the best one. Get a sangria from the restaurants they are amazing. Pools: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Pools are decent but a lot of them are for adults only. Which was a little frustrating for the kids. My kids favourite pool was the tropical. Lots of entertainment daily but most of it adults could only do. Kids did enjoy the foam party - but beware have your kids on you at all times. The foam rises quick and your kids will go under the water fast. Children’s day was fun - popcorn, cotton candy, jumping castles, clown, slide. The clown is geared towards 7 and under. But everything else was fun! Pools were a little dirty, but overall it was fun. Beaches: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ VIP beach is amazing! We only got to go to this beach because it’s low season. The beds are comfortable and the wait staff is amazing. VIP beach bar serves the best drinks, and a great selection. Ask for some towels, and they will set you up on a bed for a little R&R. The actual beach itself is okay. A little rocky and seaweed. Staff are doing their best to cover it up daily. Vendors are set up along the beach. And are quite pushy. Avoid eye contact and you will be fine. I got braids done for my daughter and the woman was adamant I get her a Pina Colada. I did not but she became quite aggressive with her tone. VIP Staff (timeshare staff): No stars. This group of staff are vultures. They are quite pushy for you to do a tour. And they bug every morning. My family and I did it - that part of the resort is stunning and you want to buy into becoming a member. But it’s very expensive. One pro is you get some good drinks, and ice cream along your tour. My husband and I got very annoyed with the staff who continued to ask if we have done the tour with them. They make it out to be a tour of the resort when in fact it is not. Shops ⭐️ ⭐️ Nice stores. But staff follow you around like you are going to steal stuff. Cigar staff was very annoying. He asked my husband several times - daily if he wanted to buy some cigars. Even after my husband told him he doesn’t smoke. Photographer: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ There’s a gentleman who walks around with a spider monkey. I threw him $20 so Joey - his monkey could crawl on my kids and hang out with them for 5 min. I offered, he agreed. We had already bought his pictures. My kids wanted to go to Monkeyland but it was going to cost $300 USD. So this was perfect 👍 he was very nice and we learned a lot about Joey. Nightly Entertainment: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ The nightly entertainment staff were great. Show was a little late (for kids) - 9:30pm. But it did the trick. Michael Jackson tribute was fun! They work hard and genuinely look like they enjoy there job. Shows are usually at the Colosseum when it’s not raining. Volume was a touch too loud, so I would suggest going higher up in the stands. Overall you get what you pay for. We paid $3660 for two adults and two kids. I wouldn’t return, unless the price was super low. My family and I would give this resort 3.5 stars - the food is what increases this. If you are looking to go here with your family, I would suggest something a little more family friendly. The resort is open to the locals on the weekends, which makes it super busy, loud and some people that we encountered were very rude.

This resort is 2 star at best. Service was awful, staff were not personable and looked miserable to be there, rooms were clean but run down and dated. Pool area is run down and there were literally no lounge chairs available for over half the people staying there. People were literally fighting over chairs. Drinks were terrible, no selection and you are only allowed to order off a menu of 10 drinks only. The food was not the best although we always managed to find something to eat. The thing that bothered me the most were the different levels of service. If you wanted good drinks, food and better accommodations you had to become members and shell out thousands of dollars to upgrade. I will never return to this resort or any other lifestyle resort for this reason only as there was no other way to upgrade unless you became members and shelled out tons of money and getting locked in to a long time share type of situation. The 3 star we stayed in Cuba was 2 steps up from this resort.

I spent a sunny, hot week relaxing at this beautiful resort, Jan. 14-21. I am not going to mention everything as you should enjoy some of the surprises. Here we go, in no particular order: I selected my seat for YYZ-POP flight online the day before take-off for free and got my boarding pass so that at Pearson I just had to check in my suitcase. Then you proceed to a gate which leads you to (surprise!) a bus which will transport you to the Infield Concourse which is mainly for Sunwing flights. You pass under the main runway; it's a few minutes away. There you will board your aircraft. It says so on your boarding pass. Some passengers were late because they said that they did not know about this procedure. You just have to read everything these days! Plus there were announcements. My flights were delayed in both directions but not by much. Bought the package from Sunwing website directly - for under $1000 CAD. You must get the e-ticket from the DR government online a day before or on the day of travel. Have the paper copy or use your device to show it upon entry. Easily done! Sign up for the Sunwing alerts, even though some of them were a bit late, after the fact. No inflight entertainment provided on board the plane. Supply your own. Pay for snacks and certain beverages with credit card. You get finger-printed electronically (both hands separately and both thumbs) upon arrival. Having read all of the reviews, there is nothing much wrong with this place. It is just over 20 years old. And remember, you are in the Dominican Republic. I like that you have access to the sister hotels. I might try one in the future. I really enjoyed the beach, the ocean, the weather, the pools, the food, the French wine, and the Dominican people. If only the guests were more respectful and considerate of others! I had room 1105 (four-poster king bed with a very good mattress) with a balcony overlooking the main pool and ping pong tables. Partial view of ocean and you can hear the crashing waves. I did try to change rooms due to noisy and unruly guests from Quebec (people, watch your reputation!), which I reported nightly to Reception because after 11 p.m. this group of young people would gather and play beer pong or dance on the ping pong tables with no regard for people who wanted to sleep. I would have liked to sleep with the door open a bit to hear the waves of the ocean. I discovered later that there is a bar inside the Casablanca buffet restaurant that is open until 4 a.m. That is where they would get their drinks and then they would congregate at the ping pong tables. One night three young women even went into the pool, clothed, and claimed to the security guard that they had fallen in. Littering, talking, screaming, shouting, howling, applauding every night and once even a fist fight - we were subjected to this for our week of so-called relaxation. I reported it all to Reception, Guest Services and my Sunwing rep, Karen, who was very efficient. Fridge was stocked on day one with 2 cans of beer, 2 bottles of pop, and two bottles of water. There were also 2 bottles of water next to the coffeemaker. Bottles of water were replenished daily. TV had no Canadian channels but American ones (CBS, CNN, ESPN, etc.) plus French-language and Spanish-language channels. Nice toiletries in the bathroom but the mirror was damaged; silvering was coming off. I would have preferred a hand-held shower, like in some other rooms, but it was a fixed shower head. No issues with hot water or water pressure. There was no toilet-paper roll holder. I had to have the sliding balcony door oiled for smoother, easier functioning which was done in a timely manner. I fixed the bathroom sink plug/stopper myself; it just required screwing in. In-room safe costs 5 USD/day and is the lock and key type, not electronic. I never used the coffee maker, the iron and ironing board, or the clock radio so I don't even know if they worked or not. Ate at Dominican, Italian and Mexicana la carte restaurants and of course the buffet - all open air. No issues with bugs! I took the shuttle bus one way and a golf cart (someone offered me a lift) to get to/from Bellini (Italian resto) because it was a bit of a hike for my arthritic body. Portions at Dominican resto were too big and I told the staff because I hate to waste food. I couldn't finish my meal and then had no room for dessert and there is no doggie bag. Upon arrival you get a map of the resort which is very helpful as it is a huge complex. Beach towel was in the room already. Free Wifi for one consecutive hour daily. Want more time? Buy one hour for 7 USD and they had other rates too. I made do with my one free hour on my laptop. The bright yellow bracelet gave me entry to the places that I needed or wanted on this particular trip: VIP Beach, an elevated beach, where there are whirlpool tubs (cold water) and washrooms and bars and showers and Bali beds and good service. Once a server just brought me a plate of chicken nuggets and fries out of the blue, wrapped in plastic (hygienic) and the accompanying dips. They put down white towels as soon as you arrive onto the mattress so that you can use your blue beach towel to dry your body. They exchanged the wet cushions for dry ones. So considerate! I also had access to most of the pools (and there are many!) and 3 a la carte restaurants. I was happy to stay in my area mostly. I walked the shoreline of Cofresi Beach which is in a small bay. There is seaweed, both in the water and on shore. Workers cleaned the beach, as did I. I always pick up litter on my walks. Surfers were busy on one day with the big waves so it was impossible to go in the ocean. Yellow flags were up all week long, even when it was calm. A number of us just floated in the gentle ocean for hours. I tripped over a rock going in one day. Watch out for sea urchins; there are signs posted. So maybe bring your aqua socks. Small shops along the beach. The complex is gated so that there is no access to the beach at night. You can easily walk to Ocean World for a day of fun. Although if you use a cane, walker or wheelchair you'll have to take a taxi or buy one of the excursions in the lobby. There are many stairs at this resort and steep ramps and there are many levels, so it is not 100% accessible. Nobody ever hassled me to get a free breakfast, or to upgrade to a VIP bracelet, or to buy a time-share or for any other reason! No salt and pepper or sugar at the table in the Casablanca buffet resto. You can ask for that. High chairs for kiddies available. Same food most days but there was quite a variety. You could eat beef, pork, chicken, fish/seafood every day. This ain't Cuba! You won't starve here. There are servers who dish out the food to you or you can serve yourself. Grill station, pasta station, omelette station and there was quite a line-up for ice cream one time! Excellent attentive service at a la cartes. I only went to one show at 9:30 p.m. at the Coliseum on Monday night. I had other plans for other nights at this hour. It was okay. I took in the live music by the main pool at 8 or 8:30 p.m. Very good! They should have live performers here every night. They should have more chairs around for people who cannot lie down for hours on end. Sure, guests reserved beds/loungers even though there are signs not to do so but I always found a spot, even a whole cabana. At check-out you can return your beach towel at Reception or if you are a Sunwing customer, you can leave it in your room. You can hold on to your bracelet until your departure (4 hours before flight time) and Reception will hold your passport for you while you continue to use the amenities, once you have given up your room (at noon). I liked that I didn't have to worry about my passport from noon until 6 p.m. while I spent my day in the ocean, on the beach and at the pools. There was an adult pool fairly close to the main pool with easy gradual walk-in or steps. There was another smaller, quieter adult pool at Royal Suites with a bar, showers and washrooms. Stairs with no handrails go into the pool. One or two life guards on duty during certain hours at all pools. Hand sanitizer everywhere! Employees were seen working - cleaning, painting, repairing, trimming vegetation- every day at some point. They care about this place! Buy some coffee at the gift shop rather than the duty-free shop on resort or at the airport shops. Much cheaper! I paid 9 USD for a bag of Santo Domingo coffee beans. Taking the shuttle bus back to the airport on departure day, we had a man show up with the bus saying, "Sunwing Toronto", and that was it. No other messages, announcements, thanks, nothing. He could have prepared us for what to expect at the airport or thanked us for using Sunwing or something. We stood in line and paid our 20 USD in cash to one person and then proceeded in another line-up for check-in. There is a VIP departure lounge at Puerto Plata airport that you can book online for 40 USD if you need to. Grab yourself a meal at Mango's restaurant. You must remove your shoes while going through the metal detector/x-ray machine so get ready so as not to hold up others. I was selected for random testing. I was frisked and then they swabbed my hands, the waistband of my pants, and the inside of my tote bag. Elite Plus seats are not worth it. They are no bigger than the regular seats. Just a shorter line-up for check-in really. Big deal! We had a Czech airplane with two columns of 3 seats in a row. Lavatories at front and back of craft. At the airport, the sniffer dog checked us out one at a time, with our carry-ons on the ground beside us, right after we showed our boarding pass and passport to the check-in staff at the gate and just before proceeding down the jet way to the aircraft. Such a good get-away when it was so cold and miserable in Canada that week! Gracias a mi gente dominicana!

I came here for a solo spa get away. On the first night of my arrival I was verbally accosted by male security guards who were saying vulgar things about my body and dress. My room was less than 200 feet away from this post and that night I barely slept because I was so scared. The next morning the same thing happened on the way to breakfast. I was approached by one of the staff for a ride back to my room, on the way there I told him about my experience he appeared sympathetic and stated that he would make sure that something was done. He brought me to the place to get a tour, I expressed to him that all I wanted to do was read my book and that I didn’t want to be there. He assured me we would almost be done, he introduced me to the tour guide who began asking me questions to build rapport so that I may purchase a timeshare. I told him my experience and again he appeared sympathetic, however at the end of the tour I told him I did not feel comfortable buying or recommending this place to my friend because of the safety concerns and that I did not feel safe there. He introduced me to his supervisor and the first thing he said was “not only do you speak Spanish but you are beautiful too “, he then kept staring at my chest “reading the writing on my necklace “ I said what do you want to tell me sir” he could not have cared less about my experience and said I’m sorry you feel this way and don’t like our hotel, have a nice day. I was overwhelmed and felt trapped in a place that I did not felt safe to be at as a woman. I went to the reception desk who introduced me to the security supervisor. The security supervisor was sympathetic and made me feel heard and understood the importance of the situation. However It wasn’t until later that evening that I was moved to another room away from the guard post. Unfortunately the room that I was transferred to had three leaks, smelled like mildew (I called to complain and the cleaning lady came to spray it with a fruity room spray that made me nauseous) at this point in the trip I had two more nights. On the day before my trip ended I spoke with the reception supervisor to discuss my experience and told her about the leaks and that maintenance was supposed to come back after I had called about the additional leak and they didnt. she asked if I would like to switch rooms however at that point I was leaving the next day and it made no sense to move around. My experience at the spa is ultimately what saved my trip, however I would not recommend any woman come here alone. Outside of the experience with the security guards, while at the beach, pool or walking around in shorts and a crop top the male staff would stare at me in a lecherous manner that made my skin crawl.

Pros first. Beautiful, friendly people. Food was good ( if you don't eat the same thing every day). Lots of very large cabanas (free)! Cons: The lobby is drab and limited seating! There should be somewhere for guests to sit! Everything needs a coat of paint! YOU HAVE TO BUY WI-FI!!!! They go in a back door to check which package of WI-FI is available! 1, 3, or a week! SHAME! They advertise 8 or 9 restaurants, but they are at different resorts, and you can only reserve them a day at a time from 9-11 or 3-5! There are plenty of pools, but you can't use them all if you're a regular guest! You will be approached by people who claim to be concierge to show you what's available, but they are really TIME-SHARE! They will take up your whole day if you let them! The rooms need updating. The water takes a while to heat up.

The place was clean, well organized and very friendly. “Albany” was very attentive, professional and experienced which made our one week experience on our resort trip much more memorable. Also shout out to “Coffee” the entertainer near that spa too! Awesome customer service from both sides of the Lifestyle Resort.

Old and dated rooms. Security lacking overnight. Loud vulgar patrons went unchecked into 4-4:30 am. Food catered to south and Central Americans. Getting reservations in restaurants was Difficult. Rodizio skewers made One pass and done. Wait staff not properly trained. Had to go ask for utensils many times during stay at buffet. Food at buffet was always cold, even HB and HD’s. They don’t know how to cook bacon. Always raw. Only found it twice in 7 days. Brown shirts are PITA’s. I will not be going back after 15 years going there. Just downhill year after year.

The hotel its self was fine , clean enough room. A lot of maintenance issues though. Our toilet didn’t work and they couldn’t move us rooms as the resort was too full. Food was good. Entertainment was good. All in all resort doesn’t have a wow factor so wouldn’t return. It’s not terrible , just “meh”. DO NOT do the time share tour , it takes up half of your day & they ask for anywhere between three and thirty thousand USD. “Ask” is a light way of putting it “badger” you is more like it.
