Please note just because there are cons doesn’t mean I didn’t absolutely love it

Pros
Amazing location ! Beautiful scenery, close to town, close to the airport, you can pretty much see the ocean no mater where you go
Cleanliness. They are always cleaning and the resort looks truly beautiful
Food, if you can’t find something you like at this resort than your just overly picky (however a note the ketchup is not like Canadian ketchup it is sweet, and be careful what syrup you put on your pancakes they have real and than idk what the other one was)
Feels luxurious, when you get there it truly looks like something out of a movie. It also helps since you are at the premium resort that one people from senator can be there while you are able to go to both.
Small, it takes you no time to walk anywhere which is nice. I have been to resorts that you can get lost at.
Pools, the pools are beautiful and kept super clean. I really loved the tanning pools.
Staff, staff always says hello and once we found certain people they where always first to say hello and remembered our orders
Drinks, they are amazing!!! A little strong but just ask for them weaker and they are well balanced
Lots of shade

Cons
Staff, while it was also a pro when we first got there the first two days we found there where a lot of people that maybe didn’t like their jobs
Toilets, didn’t have much pressure at least in our room it didn’t
Shower, we had some issue with keeping the shower head up high enough to take a shower
Language barrier, while I understand that Spanish is their language I do feel like in certain areas there should be people that speak English (ex guest services)

Our stay at senator was absolutely amazing and the best resort experience so far. When deciding what hotels me and my girlfriend wanted to stay at we agreed that the quality of the food was on top of our list. the reviews of the buffet style food had us sold and it didn't disappoint. What made our trip exceptional was the staff and their willingness to accommodate for our request. A big shout out to the cook diego for going out of his way to make us fried salami and having it brought to our table. he did this twice for us and the salami was superb. We also took some time to visit family in the Dominican republic so we were away from our rooms for two days. The house keeper of our room "maria" was so kind and noticed our leisure from the room she even organized our shoes and left our rooms clean at all times. Our next great experience was waiting for live music with "pollito" he and his coworker were great at entertaining and played music suggestion of the crowd's. great experience over all

This was my first experience staying at an all-inclusive resort and I was not disappointed one bit. The staff were extremely friendly and the resort was very well maintained. Always clean! The food on the resort was delicious I was never left hungry and the drinks were great. Restaurants were incredibly fancy and tasty as well. Our room was always clean and well air-conditioned, the cleaning staff was amazing as well, always surprising us with towel animals every day that we would look forward to seeing. The pool and beach were both amazing as well! However, finding a lounger near the pool was always hard because people will throw their towels on them in the morning to "reserve" them for the whole day even when they're not there. My advice would be to get there in the early morning and do that same or just sit on a seat with a towel, the people don't come back for hours! Pollo was especially friendly, he would always interact with us and call us over to play the games and watch the shows. Pollo was always a friendly face to see every day! Pollo made the trip much more enjoyable!

I have never written a bad review before and am only on my second day at this resort. But it has been a bad experience. On arrival we found that our patio door was broken as was the safe! A surly man did fix the door but not the safe. We booked 3 in our room but there are only 2 towels, cups, etc. I called for a third of everything. After 3 phone calls, speaking to a housekeeper, and one cOnversation with the manager I still only have 2 of everything. You receive cards for pool and beach towels and since we’ve been here they have none available. I check every hour. They shrug and say they’re out. The buffet meals are served in a loud bright cafeteria. You have to hunt for cutlery, harass them to get water and the automatic coffee machiNe constantly breaks down. We have not had a coffee since we arrived yesterday. Service is non existent. You do it all yourself. Last night we wanted to read before bed but realized that there is only one light in the bedroom, a wall light across the room from the beds. I called and asked for a lamp or something for beside the bed and was told that as I had booked a junior suite they don’t put lamps in them. I would have had to book a luxury suite to get a bedside lamp! Seriously. I spoke to Guest Services Manager who said he would take care of everything including a lamp but still no change. And to top it all off, after a very bland dinner last night all of us except one got sick and had the runs all night, this was supposed to be our last big family vacation. 3 sons and 2 girlfriends. I would NEVER come back or recommend this to anyone. Even if you book the Luxury Rooms, you are still dealing with an unorganized location, poor food, and terrible service. Sorry.

This resort is beautiful. The Pool is awesome The entertainers around the pool are fantastic especially pollo, skinny, and pikachu. The people at the sports bar are probably the best people that i met in puerto. Luis is by far the reason why i would go back to this resort. He made our trip unforgettable, he greeted us everytime we walked into the bar and remembered our drinks and made the best shooters ever. The first night we showed up we met paula and catelina and these 2 ladies are awesome as well i was so sad to have to say goodbye to them. Christopher, Anthony and aerial were also very very cool. These are all people from the sports bar. So we spent most of our time there when we weren't by the pool hanging and dancing with skinny, pollo and pikachu. The things that they really need to work on is the service at the snack bar, front desk and a la cart reservations. The snack bar would not take orders at the bar we were told to sit and someone would help us. 30 min later we had to call someone over to order and the food was not great there. When we got to the resort we dealt with kelvin word to the wise if he is taking your reservation ask for someone else he told us a bunch of stuff that never happened. It was our 10 year anniversary trip so he said he would have champagne and fruit sent up and it never happened (we didn't expect anything but he said he would do it). He wouldn't do anything unless there was a bunch of money tossed his way. I asked for a bottle of water and waited 45 min to not ever get it from him when he said he would get one sent. He was A TERRIBLE front desk guy. The registration for a la carts was a complete joke. Some people could book their whole holiday while others they would only let you book for 2 days and when you go to the restaurants they were almost empty. I must say though the food for the most part was good. The sports bar food was awesome, the a la carts were ok the pizza place was awesome. The evening entertainment wasn't the best i feel like if we are in the Dominican than they should embrace the culture and do Dominican entertainment not have an American airband rock show 👎. The beach was very nice our room was very clean and looked out to amber cove so we were able to watch cruise ships come in which was so cool. I would go back to the resort because of the beauty of the resort but not for a couple years until they work the kinks out. If you are planning on going you will love luis, skinny, pollo, pikachu, paula, catalina, aerial, christopher and Anthony.

We arrived December 28th—nearly an hour from the airport so grab a drink at the airport before boarding the bus.

The resort itself is nice—the pools are clean. The hot tub are cold tubs—but nice during the day and away from the busy main pool. The green mountains surrounding the hotel are gorgeous. It’s cool to see the cruise ships come in.

There is no one walking around serving drinks so you have to wait in line at the swim up bar. All margarita and daiquiri-type drinks come from a slushy machine and the rum is dumped over top. Bring a cold drink holder that they can refill or you will be drinking out of small plastic cups.

The beach is beautiful! Lots of palm trees for shade—but if you want sun you need to set up by the pool. There isn’t great snorkeling but we did see some fish. The area isn’t conducive to throwing around a football as there’s too many palm trees but it’s good for walking. Beach volleyball goes all day and we even had a midnight game one evening.

Our room was ok. Beds were very comfortable. The shower was ridiculously small. There was three days that the only cleaning that happened in our room was that the bed was made. The hallways of the buildings are echo-y so you hear everything in the mornings and late at night.

Making reservations for dinner is ridiculous! You have to line up at 8am for them to tell you everything is booked. We had a reservation for 9pm at the tepanaki restaurant but didn’t get seated until 9:50!! Also all restaurants are indoors except a few seats in each restaurant that are reserved for VIPs. There are definitely not enough servers at any restaurant and most do not speak any English. The food was best at the tepanaki. I’m not a fan of buffet anywhere. The Italian restaurant was ok at best. Most of the a la carte restaurant could fit about 20 more tables in them—they seem empty even though they are fully booked. We did go to dinner at the Italian restaurant at the resort next to us one night and the food was great!! And it was an open air restaurant!! Again, they were short on servers so it was slow.

The entertainment crew works very hard.

I think this resort is quite beautiful and if it had a better trained servers, more servers, and more seating in each restaurant, it would be a great place to vacation.

If you want to party, go here. If want a restful vacation, chose another place.
The beach is lovely and the connecting walkway is wonderful. Otherwise our vacation was not as expected. Our room was musty smelling. The AC was inconsistent. The lighting in the room poor. And the possibility of an upgrade was never explained or offered.
VIP representatives were plentiful and often annoying and you have to watch out for their golf carts whipping around the sidewalks.
The dining room was high-ceilinged, noisy, understaffed and looked out over the pool deck at swimmers in their thongs and holding their huge bubba mugs.
The air vent in the Japanese restaurant did not take away the greasy smoke from the cooking and the noise was almost unbearable.
The bar at the lunch restaurant was often understaffed with long line-ups where guests got refills in numerous cups.
At reception, with the exception of one person, we were treated like invaders and not welcome. We had to arrange for a porter ourselves to have help to take our bags to our room.
The lobby is very modern (more like Mexico than DR) with glass, water and marble. The pool area lacks shade so we never used it.
Drinking water comes in small bottles and there never seems to be enough without catching the water guys on the way by.
Obviously there has been remodelling going on here but unfortunately with every reconstruction there is less Dominican charm.
I have no desire to return.

place was beyond spotless the sports bar was great its open 24 hours and you are able to get full meals not just snacks. handy if you fly iate. our room in buildong 8 was big and lots of drewers and closet space and close to everyhing. very hard to get a space by the pool if you arent ther by 7am people put towels out then go out for the day . this is so annoying. foor was excellent . we only did the buffett. the one thing is there was never enough cutlery and you had to go try and find your own . the restaurants seemed to be short staffed but they were very plesent. robin on the front desk was amazing as i had my luggage delayed in toronto and he was so helpful in making phone calls , the sunwing rep was amazing even though we flew with transat . that rep was useless. nothing around the resort so you have to get a cab if you want to go into town but very good price, all staff on the front desk were very helpful very quick check in great little avenue where you can get ice cream and piazza and coffee with desserts.

Wow where do I begin?! My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVED this hotel. From
The minute we walked in we were greeted by the front desk agent who was busy with another guest but acknowledged us and offered us their signature drink while we waited. Check in was quick and smooth. We were taken right up to our room which was beautiful. We stayed in a luxury junior suite ocean view. The room was very clean, modern, spacious as it had a separate living room area with couch and accent chair. The bathroom is very comfortable and has an amazing rain shower with high water pressure which you usually don’t get in most hotels in the area. I love that the toilet is by itself and you have a door for privacy. The balcony was spacious and was facing the ocean and the many awesome pools.

The hotel itself is beautiful. Has spacious pools and jacuzzis and the bartenders make great drinks. The staff is great as well. Everyone is so friendly and professional. Especially Lizbeth Dones with the vacation club. She was so sweet and helpful. She took care of making dinner reservations for us and took the time to show us where everything is located, even the coffee shop and ice cream shop we couldn’t find. She even went out of her way to make sure we had extra towels sent up to our room when we mentioned needing them. Lizbeth, you are the best!!

Ok last but not least, the food. WOW the food at the restaurants is delicious and the buffet...The buffet is huge with tons of options no matter what your diet is. They have a cheese station with a nice variety, a salad bar, fruit bar and the grill station has a nice variety of meat to choose from (for the meat lovers like myself) and fish.

I cannot stress enough how much we absolutely enjoyed every day of our stay at Senator and will definitely come back :)

We have recently returned from a 10 day stay with a group of 20 people at the Senator Puerto Plata.
We asked for renovated rooms at the time of check in and were told that all the rooms are renovated which is not true. None of us got the renovated rooms as they are advertised on the hotel web site.
We didn’t make a big deal out of it because the rooms were clean and not run down.
The hotel is definitely understaffed. Things are constantly missing. 2 of our rooms were cleaned and we didn’t get any towels. Called the reception 3 times and got the towels 1.5hr later (not the ideal way when you’ve made plans to meet up for a certain time with the rest of the group to go to dinner)
Most stuff at the hotel are not too friendly. Most of them look pissed off even when you tip them which we did. It didn’t seem to make a difference. Constant lineups at the buffet, missing bowls for soup, missing plates, missing cups for tea or coffee. The service is for the most part non existent. The chefs at the buffet they try to keep up but the lineups keep growing as there are not enough of them.
The chef that’s looking after making pasta for each individual person has to look after the pizza station as well. People were waiting for pizza and there were no pizzas in the oven as the chef could not keep up. Food choices were too few, lukewarm and every day it was exactly the same. It only changed a bit for Christmas and New Year. Whenever you asked the staff for anything that was missing we were told “sorry we are out of it”
We had the best service at New Years dinner because the a la carte restaurants were closed and the staff from there was serving at the buffet.
Service at the Japanese restaurant was good.
To reserve an a la carte restaurant people are lining up at 6:30am to be able to make a reservation for the next day. By the time you reach half way of the line up you’re told the restaurants are already full.
We managed to get a reservation thanks to Louis the manager. ( not the ideal way to be on vacation and stand in a 2 hr long lineup)
Our kids enjoyed the entertainment team. The only staff with a smile. Overall we give the resort a 3.5* rating.
