We just spent a long weekend at the Pasanggrahan and had the best trip! Everyone there from the wait staff to the managers to the fisherman to the cleaning crew were so welcoming and warm. We stayed in the older part of the hotel which had great rustic charm. The room was clean and had a beautiful beachfront view. The...

The Pasanggrahan has lots of character and a great historic feel. We liked that could walk right onto the beach from our room. There are lots of restaurants and shopping nearby, and it was easy to get to the cruise terminal. It was a great place to stay for the night before our cruise.

When I arrived, the hotel didn't have my reservation despite booking through Expedia months earlier. To the hotel's credit, they upgraded me to a suite. The suite was nicely decorated and had a great view of the beach. However, due to a number of reasons, if I returned to St. Maarten, based on my personal experience, personal opinion and personal...

We arrived and the hotel had not received our reservation information. After reviewing our reservation printout and without any coaxing from us the desk clerk (Peter) welcomed us to the hotel and upgraded us to a wonderful suite on the third floor with a magnificent view of the ocean and marina. Our bed was a romantic four-poster king with netting...

Great place to stay. Extremely clean. Their restaurant has great food, a little expensive and interesting specials. There is a snack store across the street for soda, water and snacks-no vending machines for in between restaurant hours. There is a coffee pot but no coffee provided.

Recommended. Great service and attention to guests' needs. Wonderful property, great location. Rooms on the old side are a bit dated, but still comfortable. Would recommend the extra cost for a higher floor overlooking Great Bay. Apparently the newer side is much nicer, but I have no information on that.

We had a very nice lunch here. Ambiance, food quality, service and price were all exceptional for a casual, informal lunch. Had the Curry Chicken wings and found it to be delicious and inexpensive. My wife went went with a club sandwich and loved hers as well.

I have stayed here several times and love the atmosphere. It is on the beach and they supply lounge chairs and umbrellas. The tiki bar is also a plus if you like a cold beverage to enjoy while relaxing. There is a new building which has the more comfortable beds and larger rooms. I prefer the old section as far...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
