Recommended. Great service and attention to guests' needs. Wonderful property, great location. Rooms on the old side are a bit dated, but still comfortable. Would recommend the extra cost for a higher floor overlooking Great Bay. Apparently the newer side is much nicer, but I have no information on that.

We had a very nice lunch here. Ambiance, food quality, service and price were all exceptional for a casual, informal lunch. Had the Curry Chicken wings and found it to be delicious and inexpensive. My wife went went with a club sandwich and loved hers as well.

I have stayed here several times and love the atmosphere. It is on the beach and they supply lounge chairs and umbrellas. The tiki bar is also a plus if you like a cold beverage to enjoy while relaxing. There is a new building which has the more comfortable beds and larger rooms. I prefer the old section as far...

We stayed 2 days before our Windstar Cruise January 22, 2017 there were a few glitches & very disappointed but then Carol McKay made things right for us. Great view from our room right on the beach. Room needs to be updated (plumbing & better TV & cable service & internet). But staff was great in rectifying the problems so...

From the very moment we entered the property, we felt welcomed and "at home". This is truly a wonderful little place in the heart of Phillipsburg's shopping district with everything you could want within walking distance or a short ride.

The location was terrific, very convenient to the beach, shopping and the cruise port. The restaurant was good. Unfortunately, the room did not meet expectations. The view was great, ocean facing above the boardwalk. Upon arrival to our room we found the fixtures very 'tired and dated", we also found bugs and bug excrement in the bottom of a drawer....

The only nice thing about this hotel is its shady terrace. However, I would not recommend having meals there since the food is extremely expensive. Espresso is $4, tiny glass of OJ is $5. Automatically 15% service charge will be added to any meal/drink bought in any seaside restaurant. Our room was big, but ugly –rust was everywhere - in...

The photographs give a good impression of what it's like, so for me I got exactly what I was expecting. A quaint historical building, complemented by an adjoining new building. I couldn't afford the penthouse, but I think I had the best suite on the top floor of the new building. Very spacious, cool and comfortable, and a large terrace...

This hotel claims to be the oldest hotel in Phillipsburg and the property sure has the old feeling although the rooms are modern with all you will need. The hotel is very charming and gives you a view on how it must have been visiting the island before the cruise boom. It has the early 20th centenary charm with a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"The Pasanggrahan Royal Guesthouse is St. Maarten's oldest and most charming inn. Formerly a rooster farm, Governor's home, V.I.P. guest house, and Dutch Royal Residence, it is ideally located in Philipsburg on a white sand beach amidst enchanting tropical gardens and enclosed within its original stone walls: a green oasis hidden on Front Street. A national landmark and one of the last bastions of West Indian culture, the Pasanggrahan is secluded and offbeat in the heart of St. Maarten’s capital, and it's a minute's stroll to shops, restaurants, casinos, banks and other institutions and activities. This authentic, colonial style inn has all the special features of a larger hotel including concierge service, the Sidney Greenstreet Bar, boardwalk beach bar, complementary chaise lounges, beach towels, and social hour. “A special place for special people” General Information"This vintage West Indian-style guesthouse has a prime spot on the beach in Philipsburg, sandwiched between the busy, narrow main street of Philipsburg and the harbor. It's set back and shaded under tall trees, a charming relic from another time. In fact, this was once the summer home of the Dutch Queen Wilhelmina, and the interior has a gracious, late-19th-century feel, with peacock bamboo chairs, Indian spool tables, and a gilt-framed oil portrait of the Dutch queen. The small- to medium-size accommodations have queen-size, double, or king-size beds with four-poster designs; some are in the main building and others are in an adjoining annex. The finest have genuine colonial flair, with antique secretaries and four-posters swaddled in mosquito netting, madras valances, hand-stitched quilts, beamed ceilings, and still life paintings. Set among lush palms is the harborfront Pasanggrahan Restaurant, which specializes in fresh fish caught by the hotel's own deep-sea charter fishing boat and family-style dinners. ... more   less
