Judging by reviews written 2-3 years ago, and by the photos on all of the websites that list this property, Sea Orchard Retreat was once quite the luxurious spot; a departing guest said she had been there years earlier and it was amazing, and that she hopes with some sprucing up it will return to its former glory. Being closed for months due to Covid, just starting to reopen when we were there (which we weren't aware of), withstanding a hurricane last August that did some damage to the grounds, and reportedly experiencing a change of ownership at some point seems to have resulted in a perfect storm of deferred maintenance that, if and when it is seen to, will bring this place back up to the high standards it once met nd to the photos that illustrate the place. Issues such as a loose pool rail, a few broken lounge chairs and umbrellas, torn pillows on the outdoor furniture, lack of sufficient lighting inside our cottage, a front door that didn't close and lock properly, an electrical box on our porch that was hanging off the wall by its wires, a window in the living area that wouldn't close so I stuffed the gap with paper towels, etc. All can be fixed fairly easily. They were working to clean the grounds while we were there, cutting down coconuts and dead fronds and picking up leaves, which was good to see. The beach is really not usable by its nature to play, sunbathe, or swim--it is only a few feet wide and covered with seaweed and plastic trash, and it is very rocky. But the view of the sea from the cottages is lovely. Pros: The kitchen was well-equipped with nice appliances and the pool area is private and will be even nicer when spruced up. Cons: The mattresses were very soft and the window shades in some of the rooms were broken. Stains on the rugs could be remedied by buying new ones and otherwise the cottages, at least ours, Avocado, could use some sprucing up; otherwise they are well laid out and spacious. The location is great, near some wonderful restaurants, yet away from the crowds at Seven Mile Beach; Cemetery Beach is nearby for swimming. There is usually someone on the grounds who can help with issues but not a main office per se. We wish them a brighter future when the property and cottages are brought back to their former glory. There is great potential there. Vic, the woman who seemed to be around the most, directing the property workers, was very helpful and nice.…
