Reviews summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Somerset on Grace Bay offers an atmosphere that many find elegant, despite some opinions that the decor could benefit from updating. Travelers consistently commend the hotel's cleanliness, with immaculate pools and rooms. Its location is generally celebrated for being close to dining and activities, although a few guests were less impressed with their room placement. The amenities, including stunning pools and beach access, receive high marks, but some suggest service enhancements are needed.
While the service is often described as friendly and helpful, inconsistencies, especially at breakfast and the beach, are noted. The spacious and clean rooms are a hit, but some argue they could use a modern touch. Guests advise that the hotel's pricing is on the higher side and are critical of additional charges for services like breakfast.

Hotel's Favourite
Last month, our family of 3 returned to our favorite place on earth (TCI of course!) for what would be our 13th visit. We’ve stayed at multiple resorts over the years, but this was our first time staying at the Somerset, & to say we were blown away by it would be a vast understatement!
For this trip, we decided to split our stay between another resort (for a few days), then Somerset (for a week). It was my husband & my 25th anniversary so we wanted to try something a little different, & I discovered the 2 bedroom penthouse (in the Sterling building) by fluke online. It looked intriguing, with its rooftop terrace (complete with private jacuzzi, outdoor shower, & seating areas). I thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary! (Spoiler alert - It was even BETTER than we expected!)
CHECK-IN: We arrived well ahead of check-in time, since we had to check out at our other resort at 11a. The Somerset property is secured by a gate, which will open with your room card, or someone at the front desk opens it remotely. We were greeted with a rum punch (fruit punch for my 13 y/o), freshly scented cold towels, & warm welcomes (I’m also a Dale Chihuahua fan, so I was impressed with one of his original pieces mounted behind the desk!). We were able to store our luggage in a secure room so we could hang out at the pool & beach while waiting for our room to be ready. First stop was the pool, & we were immediately greeted by Colin & AJ. They made us feel so very welcome right from the start, & we knew we had chosen the right place! We went to the beach for a little while, then someone from the front desk (I’m so sorry I forget her name, but she was lovely!) came to get us to take us to our room, bearing gifts of a Somerset tote bag, bag of cookies, & candy that matched the colors of Grace Bay. What a nice touch!
OUR ROOM: As I said, I found the 2 bedroom penthouse unit (called the 2 bedroom duplex on their website) online, & booked our stay (through Turks and Caicos Reservations) at Somerset because of this room. Usually, high expectations lead to disappointment. But, as we walked into this room….MIND. BLOWN!! We were all speechless. The view - STUNNING!! We had a huge deck, complete with grill, high top table & chairs, and cushioned chaise & loveseat, all overlooking the pool & beach beyond. Large living room (with a pull out couch & plenty of comfy seating); beautiful dining room; exquisite kitchen (FIRST CLASS appliances - Viking range & fridge, trash compactor, Cuisinart small appliances, plus all of the tableware, glassware, utensils, etc you could possibly need); laundry closet (detergent provided); half bathroom; two large, beautiful bedrooms with gorgeous bathrooms & balconies (Bvlgari toiletries, that smell AMAZING, are regularly replenished, & the towels are the softest, plushest towels I’ve ever felt in my life! Robes & soft slippers are also stocked in the bedrooms. One of my favorite features was the little reading/relaxing nook in my son’s bedroom; so cozy!). All lights were on dimmers (nice touch). The suite also had an integrated Bluetooth sound system, with speakers located in every room, so you could play your own music that broadcasted throughout the entire suite. (A Soca soundtrack playing along as I live my best life in my TCI home-away-from-home? Yes, please!)
But the piece de resistance of our suite was accessed by a curving staircase that lead to the rooftop terrace…..oh WOW! First of all, there was even a wet bar & mini fridge on the landing at the top of said staircase so you could easily access refreshments when you were on the roof. But that rooftop….you could see the ENTIRE ISLAND from up there!! We had our own loungers, table & chairs, jacuzzi, more chairs & seating nooks. It was perfection. The live webcam on Somerset’s website? That is mounted on this room’s rooftop terrace! We spent several nights just hanging out in our jacuzzi, watching shooting stars & satellites. Magical! Best view on the island for fireworks, too! And the sunsets?? Spectacular! (You do share the rooftop with the other 2 bdr penthouse unit, but you each have your own private jacuzzi, shower, & seating areas, & we only saw someone else up there 1 time).
HOUSEKEEPING: I have to give accolades to our housekeeper, Jacqueline, who left our room IMPECCABLE! Best service we have had at any resort, hands down. She was so sweet, & left everything spotless. After she came in our room & cleaned, the appliances all looked like they were new out of the box. She is a gem. Somerset also does a nightly turndown service. They leave mini bottles of water & chocolates bedside.
BREAKFAST: Our stay included breakfast (served 7:30a - 10:30a), which was the perfect way to begin the day. On our first full day, we stopped in at the front desk where we picked up our breakfast vouchers to use for the duration of our stay. This consisted of: coffee/tea, juice, shared plates of pastries & fresh cut fruit, 2 eggs, bacon, & choice of toast / pancake / French toast. Additional options were available for purchase. Although the breakfast was pretty basic (a lot of the other higher-end resorts have a better breakfast w/more selections & a buffet), it was decent. Service was always very good as well.
RESTAURANT: We did not eat at the main restaurant (Barbetta House, which is open for dinner & is also where breakfast is served), but we did have lunch at the poolside restaurant (Barbetta on the Beach). It was FANTASTIC! I had the veggie panini w/side salad ($18 & the portion was HUGE, enough for a lite lunch the next day), & my husband had the fish tacos ($23), which were out of this world. The menu has a wide variety of options, too (including vegetarian which made me happy!).
MANAGER’S PARTY: We enjoyed attending the complimentary Manager’s Party on Monday evening (from 5:30p - 6:30p). Included was rum (or fruit) punch, beer, wine, & bottled water, as well as appetizers. Again, excellent service from the servers working here. It was also the 4th of July, & Somerset had an area set up for the kids w/free hot dogs, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, s’mores & lawn games. Such a thoughtful way to make guests feel appreciated!
BEACH BBQ & BONFIRE: This is offered every Tuesday, & although we didn’t attend (it was our last night & we’d just returned from a day trip to North & Middle Caicos), we watched the festivities from our deck & it looked like a lot of fun & a lively group. I believe the cost was $65/pp. There was music, dancing, a fire dancer, buffet & cash bar.
HYDRATION: One thing worth noting is that Somerset leaves water by the gallon in the fridge for guests, replenished as needed. We brought refillable, insulated bottles with us, which was perfect for filling up & bringing to the beach. You can also ask the beach or pool attendants for complimentary bottled water.
POOL: The pool is beautiful, & the attendants who work there are TOP NOTCH. Plenty of towels were available throughout the day (something not always readily available at some of the other resorts we’ve stayed at), & the chair covers were super comfortable. Colin & AJ were quick to help guests find an available chair & truly made us feel welcomed & valued each time we saw them, greeting us by name. The pool has a tiled floor, so no toe scrapes on rough concrete! Food & beverage servers at the pool (& beach!) are also excellent. They were always checking to see if we needed anything (without being obtrusive). My husband & I enjoyed lunch one day from the comfort of our pool chairs! There were pool loungers/floats available for guests to use as well.
BEACH: It goes without saying that Grace Bay beach is perfection. It’s what has kept us coming back since our first trip in 2006. The stretch of beach in front of Somerset is beautiful. Beach chairs (& towels) were always available, & there is a stash of rafts / floats / beach toys to use. (Or bring your own & they will inflate them for you).
NEXT TIME: We have already booked next year’s stay at Somerset (& that gorgeous 2 bdr penthouse)! We did that prior to leaving, which was a first for us in all of our 16 years of coming to TCI. That’s how much of an impression Somerset made on us. From the service & staff, to the gorgeous grounds, to the beautifully appointed rooms, Somerset greatly exceeded our expectations. We can’t wait to return! 💙

My family of 4, hubby, myself and kids 19 and 22, just returned from a 9 night stay at The Somerset. I don't know if there are enough words to describe the beauty of the resort and the amazing staff. I contacted Berry, the Concierge, ahead of our trip and she made reservations for all 4 of our excursions. Each excursion was wonderful. From the minute you arrive at the resort, Winston, greets you, helps with your bags and takes away every care that we had. The resort is immaculately kept, spotlessly clean and very elegant. The pools are beyond beautiful and cleaned every morning, I watched them from my balcony, and they are continually cleaning them throughout the day. We had a 2 bedroom ocean view villa and I am so glad we paid for the view. Every morning I sat on our balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean while I drank my coffee. It was a perfect way to start the day. The workout room is well equipped and we had breakfast each morning in the restaurant. The hotel hosts a beach bbq on Tuesday nights with a buffet, DJ, Winston, and a fire dancer. It was so much fun and I wish they would host it more than once per week. The resort is amazing, but we learned a little about the staff and they truly make your stay worthwhile. From Winston, Berry and the front desk crew to every single person at the pool, the beach attendant, the cleaning lady and maintenance. Every afternoon they brought around cold cloths for anyone staying at the resort who was at the pool. What a treat when it was 90+ degrees outside. They also had sunscreen for us to use at the beach and pool and I'm glad they did because we ran out 2 days before coming home. Not only do they clean your room every day, but they also have turn down service at night and they leave water and chocolates on the night stand. The resort is beautiful, but the quality of their staff is amazing. They truly make the resort what it is. This is an elegant boutique resort and it lives up to its name. There are a few minor enhancements that I think the resort should consider: 1. we paid to have breakfast included, but it was limited to just a few items which we got bored with after 4 days. We could have selected some other things, but we would have paid for them and the prices were quite high. I think they should expand their breakfast selection. The cost of the beach bbq, $55 per person, should include drinks. The entire Turks and Caicos island is expensive and I was glad that we had a full kitchen and we went to the grocery store for snacks, coffee, alcohol and lunch stuff which we made in our room. We went out to dinner every night and the restaurants while expensive were amazing. I absolutely recommend staying at The Somerset.. you won't be disappointed.

We stayed here with our 2 young boys and are so grateful we did. Check in was a breeze and we were greeted with rum punch (fruit punch for the kids). Our 1 bedroom unit was 1,500 square feet with a pull out couch for the kids. Having a full kitchen, washer/dryer, etc was SO helpful with 2 little kids.
Housekeeping was twice a day - full cleaning in the morning & turn down service in the evenings. Coffee/creamer/filtered water was provided daily.
Ms. Sharon at the kids club is outstanding. Our boys adored her and LOVED going to do crafts with her - they kept asking when Ms. Sharon could come & babysit them because they loved being with her.
AJ at the pool/beach always had a smile on his face and was happy to help us with towels, chairs, stand up paddle equipment, etc. Jahansen (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly) at the front/check in was wonderful and always so helpful with our kids. Ms. Nadine at the pool also took great care of us.
Our kids also loved the movie on the lawn, smores night, and Tuesday night bbq with the fire dancer & DJ/dance party.
Tips:
*The walk into "town" (salt mills mall) was long and hot for our 2 kids. We ended up renting strollers from a local company (Destination TCI) for the walks all week. Lemon 2 go coffee was worth the walk, and the "build your own donut" for $2 at Turkberry was a hit for our kids.
*Ask for waters at the pool towel area or beach towel area, otherwise you're charged $3 per bottle around the resort.
*Drinks are very expensive there. We saw many families making their own cocktails at the beach or bringing them down from the rooms. The resort didn't seem to have a problem with it. I wish we would have brought our Yetis, as they had zero plastic/unbreakable cups. Glassware only in the rooms. Our room also could have really used Tupperware for leftover food.
*Have your driver stop at the Graceway super market near the airport. It has a much better/larger selection than the small grocery store on grace bay.
*The hotel provides lots of floats/rafts for the ocean, snorkel gear, sand digging toys, etc so no need to bring any of those items.
We have been all over the world, but Grace Bay beach beats every single beach we've ever been to. The water is so calm and so clear, and the sand is like powder. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for families & hope to be back in the future.

I had an amazing time at the Somerset for my birthday. From the moment we got there, it was a 5-star experience. Everyone from the hotel manager to the pool and beach staff was so friendly and helpful. We had to push our trip back a year due to Covid so I had really hyped up this trip in my head and it lived up to every expectation.
The resort was spotless and classy without feeling exclusive, or snobby. Just genuinely friendly people and a gorgeous location. You are right on a fantastic stretch of beach with ample umbrellas and chairs available. We saw a dolphin right off the beach which was a highlight. The water was crystal clear, calm, and the most beautiful shade of blue you can imagine. I think the Somerset has one of the best beachfronts and our room in Stirling House overlooked the pool and had a lovely view of the ocean. The pool was pretty and never crowded and they had pool floats available and ample towels. There were also clear kayaks and paddleboards available on the beach as well as Hobie Cats, balls, and sand toys for kids.
The food was the only downside with dinner at the only open restaurant being so-so, but there are so many places to eat nearby that it was a nice excuse to get off the property.
Our 1 bedroom unit was massive with 1.5 bathrooms and was kept spotless. I loved the turndown service and chocolates every evening. We've traveled to many Caribean islands and I have to say this resort is one of my favorites with a classy, relaxed vibe. I'm already planning my return trip next year! Thank you to the Somerset for making my much anticipated birthday trip so amazing.

3 couples rented two different residences through the TravelZoo promotion. Everything about this resort is top notch, the service, the residences, cleanliness, everything. All staff members we met were so friendly and helpful, especially my man Winston (who also is the resort DJ), our favorite server Joe at night on the beach and the beautiful Nadine who helped make our trip special. The Somerset definitely has a prime location on Grace Bay beach and the pool and beach staff always made sure you had everything you needed.
We ate a private dinner on the beach which was truly fantastic, the jerk fish was the best I've ever had. Our last night, we bought tickets for the BBQ dinner and fire show on the beach and it was such a fun evening and the food was much better than you would expect for a buffet.
Other than the cost (you will have sticker shock on everything if you've never been to TCI), my only complaint would be the billing system. The dining (including the beach and pool service) is owned and billed by a separate entity, so the first few days we thought we were simply charging everything to our room and using the resort credit that came with the Travel Zoo promotion, but we were not. We had to fill out a whole new form and hand write our credit card number and it was kept "on file". Trying to reconcile the charges at the end of the trip were virtually impossible due to that. I just wish such a fine resort would have an easier system...but we still had a great trip, don't let that deter you from staying here.
So my recommendation, stay here, you will love it and feel pampered, but know in advance it's gonna cost you....

We stayed in a one bedroom pool view villa, which was a condo being rented out by its owners through the hotel. The room was enormous, extremely clean and very well appointed. You could easily do an extended stay here. In fact, we stayed 18 days and found this villa extremely comfortable. It even had a spacious kitchen with high-end appliances and a breakfast bar. Our room was serviced twice a day and the turndown service was excellent.
There were three pools, including an infinity pool, where most people hung out. The beach was stunning, pure white sand and a gradual entry into the calm, crystal clear water.
The pool and beach service could be improved, but was still reasonably good. Our only suggestion is that the servers could walk around more to see if people need more drinks. The drinks were good, but reflect normal Turks & Caicos pricing.
The front desk staff was very helpful, in particular the general manager, Mr Foster. The pool was a great place to meet people and make some friends. There were a fair number of children at the hotel, but unlike other 'family friendly' places we have been, they were well behaved and closely watched by their parents.
We loved the Tuesday night beach barbecue buffet. It is very fun and the food is excellent. This was the one element that was highly family oriented and might not be suitable if you want a quiet, romantic couple's evening.
The hotel is within walking distance to a number of good restaurants and the Grace Bay strip.
We had a very comfortable and pleasant stay here and highly recommend the Somerset.

Family of 4 with 2 teens in 3 bedroom ocean view estate villa. I think it was called D3 or 103. It was excellent. We had way more room than we needed but it was super comfortable and nicely furnished. I initially regretted not getting ocean front when we arrived on the property but in hind sight, I think I loved our ocean view even more. We had a great view from our balcony of the ocean and pools. It was a wonderful place to sit and read, nap, coffee or happy hour. This is a great choice for families with multi generations as the gradual entry pool was easy for the little ones, elevators to the rooms if needed and walk to the beach very easy. I withheld a star as the breakfast offering doesn't change and was pretty basic. After day 4 we found ourselves looking for another breakfast alternative. The service is on island time big time! I can appreciate this as I am traveling to experience the culture and food, however the antiquated system of writing out the orders and bill seems to slow the servers exponentially. I did notice on my invoice at checkout my items were listed for each bar charge by the drink so the antiquated slow system actually gets put into a system at some point. It was nice to validate charges by day down to the drinks ordered.
The other thing I thought was not well publicized about Somerset is the location. We rented a car which I highly recommend. The valet will park it near your room and unload your luggage from there and leave your car parked near your room. This made coming and going super easy. We could also ride the Somerset bikes into the town or walk which we did a few times. An easy walk or run as I saw many people jogging in the area.
I hesitantly booked the beach bbq on Tuesday night. The food was ok, some dishes better than others but the fire dancer entertaining guy was pretty cool, even to a 15 yo teenage boy. The music (DJ) played every "middle school" dance song you can think of until the little ones started dispersing for the night and then he switched to older music and a little more funk. He really used great judgment reading his crowd.
You won't go wrong with Somerset. They do a great job of maintaining the property and the location and rooms are excellent.

I cannot say enough about The Somerset
on Grace Bay. Starting with our arrival and being greeted by Foster and Berry who were so friendly and accommodating. We were given fresh cool towels and the most delicious Rum Punch as we checked-in.
Our Cottage was decorated so beautifully in a sophisticated beach style. The 3 Bedroom unit had plenty of room for our family of 5. The refrigerator was stocked with the breakfast items and snacks I had requested prior to our arrival.
We went straight to the beach after dropping our bags and the Beach Boys (Colin, Bernard, Quincely and Jodesti) set us up right away with chairs, towels and cold water and did this for us every day forward. There are Paddle Boards, Hobie Cats and snorkeling equipment complimentary for guests. A huge plus is the beach at the Somerset, it is at one of the widest points on Grace Bay and always kept clean and free from seaweed.
Chef Phillips was able to accommodate a last minute request for a Private Dinner on the Beach for my daughter’s 16th Birthday. Tiki torches, Bougainvilleas, lights and palms surrounded our table right in the sand. We feasted on delicious Lobster, Steak, Scallops, sauteed veggies and Kale & Romaine Caesar Salad. Chef Philips also had a delicious Chocolate Cake complete with candles, and a group to sing Happy Birthday!! Chef Phillips truly cares about the guests dining experience and goes the extra mile to be sure all are satisfied!
My family kept saying how incredibly lucky we were to be at this beautiful the property which is so well maintained. The Somerset is an intimate, luxury, family friendly place where ALL of the staff make you feel right at home.
We fell in love with Turks & Caicos and attribute that to our experience at The Somerset. We are already plotting our next visit :))

We will certainly be back! We needed a short 5 day get away from the grey, damp, cold of New England. We have been to Turks four times and it is such an easy get away. We have stayed at The Palms twice, Seven Stars and now the Somerset. We were absolutely thrilled with our experience at the Somerset. We were greeted with rum punch, eucalyptus fresh cold towels for after travel freshening and a show to our room. The view from the double balcony was superb. We stayed in a two bed, three bath property that was spacious and beautiful with a family, dining room and kitchen. The overall property is beautifully kept, has outstanding service and the food was top notch, we were so happy. The pool, beach and wait staff (ask for Nadine by the pool) were friendly, accommodating and went out of their way to get to know us and ensure our satisfaction throughout the day. Breakfast was included and great (plus we ordered a la cart too), lunch was delicious and the Somerset beach party was the best with a dj, dancing, outstanding food, drinks and a fire show. It was one of our best nights. The staff worked all day and into the night and made sure that everyone was having a blast and truly enjoyed the event with us. Nadine and my daughter danced all night. Overall, it was nice that the resort was quieter than others we've stayed. We used the clear bottomed kayak and resorts sailboat too. Cameron accommodated us for each taxi ride and he was responsive and extremely friendly. We love Turks and will without a doubt be back. We will be staying at the Somerset again!!

+1
We stayed in a 2 bdrm, 2.5 bath Residence 5, stunningly appointed duplex, with 5 star amenities. Viking appliances in the kitchen, comfortable beds and luxurious toiletries in the bathrooms. The resort is ideally located on an expansive stretch of soft, sandy, clean beach. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. There are numerous activities including sailing, kayaking, stand up paddle. The location is perfect for walking to town and restaurants conveniently located nearby or dine at Barbetta on-site for delicious cuisine.

The breakfast is sit down and you order off a menu. There are 5 or so items included in the package, but if you order other items you get charged. The items are marked so you know what's included. Also, please remember to tip your server every day.
The two restaurants on the grounds have recently been redone. The food is delicious! Cracked conch and the fish tacos were our favorites.
