The room had just finished being cleaned and it was very clean, but overall, the feeling was one of being tired. At night, there was a large loud party in the pool that went into the night. I couldn't find anybody at the hotel to speak to about this as nobody answered the front phone and nobody was there when I walked down. When we checked in/out, the people didn't seem interested in how our stay was. The location is terrific, up on a hill overlooking Charlotte Amalie and its very convenient to the airport. Parking is difficult on the road if you have a Jeep.
Traveled with girlfriends, passed through for a night on our way to Tortola. Patio door did not lock, did not feel safe. Cockroaches in room. Restaurant & hotel was overpriced. Would not recommend. Property needs updates. Location in the hills, not convenient to town.
Lovely view, small boutique hotel felt comfortable and friendly. Restaurant and bar were great. Room could have used some updating but still comfortable and clean. Water went out twice during our one night stay but was resolved quickly each time. This is a historic hotel and if you can appreciate it for that would recommend.
We stayed at Mafolie for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. The views of the bay are incredible and the staff is incredibly accommodating, friendly, and helpful. We were upgraded to a gorgeous higher priced room without even asking and when we had trouble with a television, Elizabeth brought us a brand new one! The restaurant is amazing with delicious breakfast included, and the pool is clean and glorious. Why choose a “big box” hotel when you can have an authentic, peaceful, island sanctuary on a hill. Highly recommend!
We stayed here one night due to a late Delta flight that caused us to miss our Cape Air connection to St Croix. The view of Charlotte Amalie and the harbor is outstanding. The property is an older one that is adequately maintained. The proprietors are very nice. There are extensive stone stairways on the property that are steep, narrow, twisty, uneven, slippery after a rain shower and very likely to have a cat sleeping or sunning itself on them so be on your guard if you are unstable on your feet. If you leave your window open the cat might enter your room and visit you as it did with us. It's a very sweet cat.
Mafolie is a quirky little hotel with a magnificent view and excellent restaurant. Each bedroom is unique, but some have no views :/. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Room 114 must have been 2 single rooms joined together, as it has 2 modest bathrooms, a sitting room with large TV, and a bedroom with king size comfortable bed. I imagine the people who book the earliest get the best rooms, the rooms with a view. We must have booked late. Still happy to be here
Good view BUT the room was a total disappointment. Old and very tired , the entrance to the room was through a dark storage area. It was like a converted basement , sold as a junior suite. No coffee . Very noisy at night with lots of banging . Poorly lit. For the price , they can do a lot better. Pool bar was also closed and main restaurant leaves a lot to be desired.
We had booked a stay on March 5th for April 1, 2022. On March 8 Cape Air emailed us stating they had suspended service to St Thomas. No other airlines travel from Anguilla to St Thomas on those dares so we had to cancel. Even with 24 days advance cancellation the Hotel REFUSED to refund the entire amount. Under the circumstances we will never stay here when we get to St. Thomas Buyer Beware! Inflexible and arbitrary policy!
This was my first visit to the U.S. Virgin Islands. While researching hotels, I was amazed at the lack of affordable mid range hotels there and the lack of U.S. hotel chains other than Marriott. I found some cheaper hotels than the Mafolie but their reviews were horrible. I wasn’t satisfied with my Mafolie room for the price paid for my one night stay but because this hotel could really be great, I did some inquiring. The current owner bought the hotel last September and we all know what the pandemic has done to the supply chain. I’m willing to give this property another chance once they complete major improvements. Bri at the Front Desk is very personable and helpful. The restaurant food was the best that I had during my three day stay in St. Thomas and St. Croix. Patrick was my server at dinner and he was great. The dinner meal was delicious and memorable and breakfast was great too. The view is just spectacular from this hotel up on a hill.…
Mafolie is a charming hotel. I will start with the positives first. The bed was comfortable and had a dorm size fridge and microwave available. Hotel guests get a free breakfast. We ordered omelets and they came with two sides. The negatives: The pool bar wasn't open when we checked in at 3:00 p.m. Another guest told us it doesn't open until 4:30 p.m. We decided to go back to our room and get ready for dinner but found out that you have to have reservations for the restaurant on site. They were fully booked!! So we had to leave the hotel to find a place to eat. So if you stay here I would suggest booking a table in advance. I wish we would have know that prior to our stay. The hotel is on a mountain/hill so it is not a place you can safely walk to or around. Cab/taxi rides ranged from $13-$20 to get down the hill and then back up. We ended up eating at the Greenhouse for dinner and getting there early enough for their happy hour (ends at 7 pm). They have a buy one drink and get the second drink free. The bathroom is in desperate need of a renovation. It grossed me out to take a shower and brush my teeth (mold in tile).…
