Our stay wasn't the best at the hotel. The room had a naan bread in one of the draws that was gone off, a can of soup and the kettle was dirty with old water left in there from the previous guest. Clearly the room wasn't cleaned to a high standard or even average standard that you would expect. Our TV didn't work for most of our stay, the bedside socket was badly cracked and not able to be used, only one of the mirror lights worked, part of the skirting board was cracked and coming off, the wiring in the bathroom was taped above the mirror and the light didn't work. Stained on the small seating area. Needs a good clean and to genuinely be decorated. I wouldn't recommend staying here and I certainly wouldn't be staying here again. One of the worst hotels I've ever been too. Staff was nice but didn't resolve our issues.

No disabled toilets anywhere and no disabled access. Manager was just generally rude and keep to charge for things we hadn’t had. No wonder the place was empty.
Food was average.
Service staff were kind.

Dated, dirty, woke up by junkies shouting at traffic lights in the street.

Thought it would be good enough if it had a bed and a shower after a day on the bike at BPW so just booked somewhere close. Not seen a hotel this bad in years though, quite a special effort.

Owner's are rude and arrogant. 80's- 90's style interior. Watched their kitchen staff tip all their oil down the drains at the rear of the hotel, along with beer waste. You can smell the yeast as you enter the hotel.
Full of asbestos, which they are currently removing slowly and disposing it into a skip at the rear of the hotel. Can tell where the money is going, on all his expensive cars whilst the hotel sits in outdated clutter, used to be amazing 20 years ago.

I am a tourist guide who worked with a group of 55 French rugby fans who travelled to Wales for the Wales France rugby international match. They have asked me to submit this review on their behalf.'We stayed two nights at the Castle Hotel. An excellent hotel with 45 comfortable and spacious bedrooms, situated right in the town centre and surrounded by pubs and shops. Friendly staff who were always ready to help. An excellent dinner and great service.'

Hotel stunk of paint,no carpet on the stairs to the rooms only underlay(there was a lift),room smelt stale,no handles on drawers only bare screws crack in the sink, broken tiles, shower didn't work, paint and dirt on the bathroom door, hole in the wall next to the door. When we complained about the shower and the fact that we had driven 3 hours to get there and wanted to freshen up the receptionist said 'well you don't smell ',we asked to be moved to another room but there wasn't anything available.
WILL NEVER RETURN
I do have a video of the cracked sink, broken tiles and bathroom door but will not upload

what can i say dated thats an understatement, i half expected Gene Hunt to burst in and arrest me ,no hot water in the hand basin and i mean no water nothing wasn't working, and the cold tap made the funniest nose, the shower mmmm ok if your short and well it was like standing under a leaking pipe only a dribble of water,
The room was dark and felt dirty the furniture well it did make me chuckle, i felt that i had stepped back in time, no handle on the inside of the bedroom door so if it did shut you would be looked in, and the bathroom door well it puzzled me the lock was on the outside.

Booked for a executive double room.
Manager insisted executive double room at higher rates. I paid for executive double room at discounted rate.
Only had standard double.
I complained but they didn't want to know.
Would not recommend.
Uncomfortable very dated and not as described .

Guest booked a double room with en-suite. We do not have 2 classifications of a double room. The guest expected a suite for the same price as a double. When offered to upgrade to a suite for the additional cost the guest declined. No further complaint was made in regards to the room, even on check out. Unfortunately we cannot apprehend guest complaints and unless informed of a problem we cannot solve it.

This place was a nightmare from start to finish however at first we did try to make the most of it. That was until the night staff gave our room key to a middle aged man who proceeded to let himself into our room at midnight. Now, as two women in our mid twenties you can imagine how terrifying a situation this would be but it's the events that led up to this that add an even more sinister twist.
On our second night, we returned to the hotel at around 9pm. We had left our key with reception staff as we had been out at a women's bike riding event for the day. In the hotel lobby there was a group of around 10 middle aged men who had clearly been drinking. They immediately took an interest in me and my friend and one of them reached to grab my thigh. I managed to handle the situation and stopped this from happening but he became aggressive and defensive when called out on his behaviour.
Already feeling uneasy about being back at the hotel and knowing these men were also staying, the receptionist then proceeded to announce our room number when handing over our key. That meant that these men were aware of exactly which room we were staying in but we felt safe knowing we could lock our door and get a good night's sleep (I'll come back to that later).
At some point between us going to our room and going to sleep, one of these men had gone to reception and claimed that our room was in fact theirs and ultimately were able to get a key. I'd like to know HOW something like this is even possible. Aren't there policies in place? Don't staff check the name on a booking and ask for any kind of confirmation or ID? I work in an industry that takes safeguarding and issues like this very seriously and the responses we've had since this incident have been anything but the former. Once the man let himself in to our room I quickly got up and calmly (whilst terrified) asked him to leave. He put his foot in the door so that I couldn't close it. I then heard the voice of another male who was with him and instantly felt like my friend and I were in danger. 'Luckily' for me, having worked in residential care I am aware of how to diffuse/cope in difficult situations and managed to forcibly remove him from my room. I then went to lock the door  behind him so that  he couldn't enter once again, to only find out that I couldn't actually lock the door because an inside lock did not exist. What a joke. I then waited for the coast to clear and then made my way to reception. The staff member on duty was untrained and said he didn't know how to deal with the situation so I then spoke his colleague who also happened to be the staff member from earlier who had shouted out our room number. He admitted to giving our key to the man who had let himself in to our room because he had said it was  his room. He didn't have an answer and just kept repeating that he was sorry and he had given the key to the man. Again, what are their policies on checking people in? It's safe to say we didn't sleep much after we returned to our room and got up early so that we could check out and leave. In the morning, we spoke to another member of staff who whilst being sympathetic, was also pretty unhelpful. She explained that the staff on duty should have checked who was in the room and the name on the booking before handing out a key. She also said an investigation and incident report would be done and that they would be in contact once completed. We have not had any communication from them without having to chase this up ourselves. I cannot believe that a situation like this can be handled so poorly and treated like it's not serious. I'm thankful that it didn't end up being a lot worse and also that I wasn't alone in my room. We thought having a private room in a hotel would mean that we were safe from situations like the above, but no. It also wouldn't have been so bad had we had a genuine apology, decent explanation, assurance that it was handled properly and wouldn't happen again and a refund for what was a horrific stay. This isn't even mentioning the other issues such as the cleanliness of both our room and the common areas, the non existent shower pressure, heat of the room due to hot pipes and windows that wouldn't open and the lack of lock on the room we stored our bikes in despite being assured that this was standard.
As a active female who is a solo traveller I have stayed in lots of hotels alone and with friends but have never felt so unsafe as I did in this hotel. I am also shocked and disgusted in the lack of response and feedback from the hotel on how they have dealt with the situation. Also how they may prevent this happening again in the future.

Response from castlestreet, Manager at Castle Hotel
Responded 3 Nov 2018
Dear Retro_planet, Firstly I would like to point out that you have stayed with us for two nights and you have never with one word mentioned the cleanliness, the windows and the hot pipes to any of the members of staff you cam in contact with. In regards to the bike storage facilities they are always locked unless somebody is actually in the room. However lets come to the main issue you are mentioning. I can assure you that you and your friend at no point have been in danger. Firstly we are running a busy restaurant and bar and as you can properly understand there will be intoxicated customers and we can not be made responsible for the actions. At no point was your room number announced out loud ( why would we if you already checked in , already stayed the second night and the person confirmed your name on the system?). Let come to the unfortunate incident. Yes the gentleman in question was highly intoxicated and yes he gave the reception the wrong room number however the member of staff actually went up with him to check if the room is in fact his and when he noticed that you and your friend are staying in the room he straight away apologised and proceeded to find the gentleman's room. Nobody ever entered your room only the door was opened and the mistake was rectified straight away. There are procedures in place for incidents like that not to happen and you have received communication from us, an apology and still you have decided to write this review and adding a few extras to your story. Kind Regards, Jessica

The multi-story car park is free from 6pm - 8am Monday- Saturday and closed on Sundays. If you wish to park your car there from 8am until 6pm then it costs £3.50 per day. The multi story car park locks every night from 8pm until 6 am so if you do not need your car during the night we advise that you park here, if you do need the car there is an open car park just outside the multi story which follows the same rules. If you are arriving on a Saturday night please be aware that the multi story car park locks at 8pm and will not open until 6am on MONDAY morning, so if you need to use your car on Sunday please use the open car park. If I can help you with anything else please let me know Kind regards Carley Reception
