The Premier Inn Merthyr Tydfil Hotel garners praise for its spotless rooms and comfortable beds nestled in a clean and modern setting, though a few guests suggest some areas could use an update. Its location is celebrated for the quiet surroundings and easy access to Cardiff, despite some finding it slightly secluded. While the well-maintained rooms are a hit, limited amenities like fridges and air conditioning have been noted. Service quality varies, with reports of both commendable and disappointing encounters. Overall, opinions on value are mixed, with some guests satisfied and others encountering service and billing hiccups.

One member of the party is a wheelchair user so had the accessible bathroom. The welcome from the receptionist was very warm and the room was very nice, the bathroom was absolutely spotless as was the room, whoever the cleaners are they are very thorough.

Very spacious rooms, well-maintained facilities inside the room - shower with comfy water pressure

However, if you happen to have a room facing the main road and keep the window open, the noise can cause a bit of issue. It might be harder to keep the window shut during summer.

The property or maybe the whole chain also needs to work more on recycling. On the website, Premier Inn makes much of the recycling initative, e.g. wiping out single use plastics in a couple of years time.

On the ground, there is no recycling collection in the common area or in the room.

I had to bring the bottles to restaurant on an ad-hoc basis, or bring home the recyclable waste.

The general waste bin was clearly spilling over.

Without the recycling option, there are quite a lot of recylcable waste, e.g. plastic bottles.

Under Covid restrictions, some guests may choose to have take away. It would be great if there can be some facilitation, e.g. provision of cutlery (to reduce the use of single use cutlery).

I wanted to meet friends in Merthr Tydfil but also travel by train to Cardiff so this hotel ticked all the boxes, train station at Pentre Bach was less than a 5 minute walk away. My room was spacious, clean, modern and very comfortable. i was very pleased that the hotel were still insisting face masks be worn I had a lovely sleep in the room and wasn't disturbed at all by outside noise. The hotel is near a busy road, my room was at the opposite side, maybe those closer may have road noise. Restaurant attached was nice and had the usual pub grub available for evening meals. Breakfast choice was okay, minor point is that I thought the bacon used was pretty cheap and not a good quality..

Hotel is in a great location to explore the Brecon Beacons and villages and has plenty of parking. Our room on arrival was large and clean and the shower was great
The room did get very hot at night and as our room was on the ground floor we couldn’t open our window as there was too much noise from people talking outside but they did have a fan in the room which helped which was a help.

The only downside was the restaurant linked to it- our experience of service and food was poor but luckily there are so many options of places to eat it wasn’t a major concern for us.
Overall I would recommend this hotel as a great base for your trip to explore!

As with all premier inns book in advance to get a great price :)

The bathroom was nice, staff were friendly. That's where the compliments end.

The building itself looks far worse in person than on the photos which I found exceptionally annoying as I chose this establishment based on looks. The photos are deliberately deceptive which is a cardinal sin.

The family room was actually a double room with two extra beds crammed in like tetris, very claustrophobic.

There was only one chair and one unsafe stool offered as seating for 4 persons, which was inadequate. Making us all eat in bed, excellent that. Not.

The single beds sqeaked & creaked. The double bed had a terrible mattress that was both sunken, hard & lumpy. For someone with a back injury like myself, this was living hell. I require a firm and supportive mattress, which should please a types of people.

The pillows were atrocious, no exaggeration. One per person, flat as pancakes and either missing or lumpy stuffing inside, there's no way they should be inside a hotel room. Worse pillows I've ever seen yet. I also asked for replacement pillows and was informed there was a pillow shortage, but the two replacements that were found were in the exact same pathetic condition.

I did not sleep well for two nights, and was actually tossing and turning for 6 hours one night.

The floor boards also creak so much that being quiet around the room is an impossibility.

I suppose the only okay thing was the price, but as you're running a motel service and not a hotel service during Lockdown, I think your prices should be cheap anyway.

It was so uncomfortable I wouldn't return unless under duress.

This place is awful. The sheets were damp so told a member off staff, they were rude and made me feel like a lier. Got moved to a disabled room and the sheets were also damp!!!.
Also there was only 1 towel so when I went to the desk to ask for 1 more towel they made me feel stupid by asking am I sure i looked properly.

Overall staff were rude
Sheets were damp
And sleep was awful!!!

Would not reccomend

This weekend myself and 11 others all stayed at the Merthyr Tydfil Premier Inn as we were all visiting bike park Wales.

I have to say the rooms are spot on and the breakfasts were amazing! Liza was our waitress for the whole weekend and did an outstanding job. Very polite, professional and did a cracking job - thank you.

We will definitely be staying here again!

Only one thing could have made this better, if premier Inn installed a jet wash for the bikes 😁😁

The hotel is showing it's age a little and is in need of a facelift. The room was basic, very clean and fine for just a quick overnight stopover - at £39 for 2 people it was great value. The coffee/tea tray was a little sparse but we paid only £39.
Location was easy to find and well situated, so all was good for a budget price that gave a good night's rest in a clean room. Great shower pressure !

Lovely stay. The room was spotless and comfortable and the staff were lovely and friendly. Ideally located for visiting my husbands family. There was no traffic noise which is brilliant with a young family of 3 children aged 5, 17 months and 7 months. We also booked breakfast at Table Table next door which was also lovely and well worth the money. Will use again when we return to visit.

I chose this premier Inn because it's 5 minutes from Bike park Wales but I was pleasantly surprised by how nice a hotel it was so even if it had been half an hour away I'd still recommend it. The shower was very powerful and hot ,just what you want after a 5 hour journey. Breakfast was good too. Will certainly return
