Staying at Valerie's cottages was an incredible experience, very comfortable and has everything you need.
Valerie was very helpful and made us feel at home her two dogs are lovely Chica and Bridgett will welcome you eveytime they are adorable.
If you like adventure, the cottages comes with a kayak that you can take out every day and explore all the beautiful beaches and watch the magnificent sunset, then end up your day with a cocktail by the natural water pool.
Highly recommended!
Can't wait to go back :)

We went back to Valerie's cottage again this year... this time for 10 days! Last year, 7 days at the cottage was a little short since there is so much to do! We discovered new spots on Moriah Harbor where we could fish and we were again amazed by the wildlife in the harbor. As always, Valerie made us feel like home. She is the best! She beats the service offered at any all inclusive we've been at, that is for sure! If you are looking for something different, this is the place to go. Valerie will show you all the good spots and if you find yourself at Valerie's place, do rent a boat from Minn's in George Town and go explore Elizabeth Harbor!

These cabins are not on the beach, but don't let that discourage you from staying here. We had the most incredible time and really appreciated having a quiet, out of the way location to escape to after a long day on the water or in the town of George Town, just a short drive away. You can take the kayaks just a short distance to secluded beaches. I spent two days on a beach with a book, and didn't see another person except my husband. Since it was our 20th wedding anniversary, this was absolutely what we were looking for. NO tourist traps, no large cruise ships, and no excursions! Though, they are available to those who seek them out, we just wanted to beach it. My hubby fished everyday on the bone fish flats, and I read THREE books! It was divine. We were able to buy groceries in town to cut down on costs and found everything we needed in the cabin to prepare basic meals. Valerie was amazing. She is knowledgeable about the island and can help you set up excursions if you want them. The pool was refreshing after all the salt water as well. Just can't say enough great things. We will definitely be going back!

We stayed in cottage #4 from May 10-15th. The cottage was clean, cozy and homey. This is a relaxing laid back place to stay. Valerie the host is honest, kind and helpful. The cottages have everything you need for a proper vacation. We brought our own food to save money and loved having the kitchen and full size fridge. The pool is very nice and we loved having use of the kayaks although the weather didn't cooperate for us using them more- we still got to spend a wonderful day on Moriah Cay...we felt like Robinson Crusoe. This is the perfect base to explore -especially the southern end of exuma and little exuma. Forbes Hill Beach, Tropic of cancer etc are a short scenic drive away. We would love to come back. This is a enjoyable, peaceful retreat. One parting hint don't forget your deep woods off- we visited after flooding rains and the mosquitos were out for blood. We packed Avon skin so soft...but I think it just made the mosquitos think we smelled more appealing. The cottages do come with mosquito coils for your porch and spray.

A big part of why we ended up loving Exuma is because of Valerie's hospitality and her wonderful property. You instantly feel at ease around her and it was always a joy to talk to her about her life experiences. And her potcake puppies Bridge-it and Casper will keep you company as well! Valerie's property consists of 3 rental cottages, Val's cottage and a larger house that is rented full time but only used part time. Our cottage was right next to Valerie's but we never felt there was a lack of privacy. We felt so comfortable with Valerie and she just makes you feel like an old friend. Inside the cottage is very neat. The living room has high ceilings so even though the cottages are small, the ceiling gives an open feeling. There's a dining table under the large picture window and a small galley kitchen. We cooked many meals there and the kitchen has just about anything you would need. There is 1 bathroom and 2 bedrooms. We didn't have to run the AC much as we had nice breezes the whole week but when we did, the cottage cooled down very quickly. There's a nice screened porch on the front with nice views of Moriah Harbour Cay. The walk down to the dock is very easy and short. There is no beach but swimming and kayaking through the mangroves is alot of fun. There is actually alot to see around the dock. Not really coral, but grasses, anemones, tiny fish. Mangroves are the fish nurseries so there are lots of baby fish to see. If you need a beach fix, just kayak across to Moriah Harbour Cay and walk towards the ocean side. The beach there is amazing with pure white sand and amazing clear blue water and you will have it to yourselves. We didn't get to see any sharks but did see a small sea turtle. Valerie will tell you the best times and directions to go based on the tides and she will even give you a color printed Google map of the cay. We used a dry bag to take along with us so our towels and things did not get wet. It was also really nice to have a pool. Valerie's pool is very unique. We absolutely loved it! In fact, on our last morning there we could hardly tear ourselves away! The pool was so nice to jump in to after a day of kayaking or beaching. There are many loungers and tables with umbrellas. We had the pool to ourselves the whole time. Another couple came in mid-week but we didn't see them very much. They are repeat customers as are alot of Valerie's renters. And you can count us in that category as soon as we can get back there!

+1
We have just returned from a week at Exuma Vacation Cottages with Valerie and it was amazing! We had fabulous weather, a wonderful host and lots of discoveries. The cottage is rustic, very clean and has all the basics one would need for an amazing week at the cottage by the ocean. The pool is refreshing after a long day in the sun. No need to fight for a chair there!
Valerie is very friendly, always willing to help, give you tips as to where to go and it was nice to know we could talk to her any time. She takes very good care of her guests.
The kayak was in top shape and it is so nice to be able to get up and go for a cruise on Moriah Harbour and we brought our fishing rods and we fished for bonefish a lot using the kayak. You'll see plenty of marine life; turtles, star fish, lemon sharks, the occasional nurse shark, sting rays and bonefish! Pack a lunch and go find your own private beach...
We rented a boat and cruised Elizabeth Harbour for the day. We fished and had lunch at the Chat 'n Chill. We also spent a day with Bob from Coastline Adventures. It was awesome! We snorkeled in Thunderball cave, saw the swimming pigs and swam with nurse sharks!
We had an amazing time and we will be back at Valerie's next time we visit Exuma.

We very much enjoyed our stay. This self-catering cottage in a quiet location was exactly what we were looking for in a vacation. We really needed some downtime and like to spend time on the water so this fit the bill perfectly. The property is as advertised and reviewed by others so there were no surprises. The owner, Valerie (who also lives on the same property) was very accommodating and provided the kinds of extra touches that make a visit memorable. Seeing that we were arriving on a Sunday when grocery stores are closed, Valerie offered to pick-up up a few items for our arrival which we really appreciated. The cottage is basic but clean and comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with everything that we needed. You'll need a rental car and we used Airport Rental which worked out well. All in all, it was just what we wanted and hope to return some day.

It is with great hesitation that I write this review about this wonderful location. I only hesitate as I don't want the secret to get out as to how beautiful and relaxing the cottages are because everyone will want to go there. This was a surprise trip for my wife encompassing our anniversary, her birthday and my birthday so we had lots to celebrate. She had no idea where we were going, only to pack light, and that it would be warm and sunny. I read all the reviews and found them not only helpful, but absolutely true in all respects and then some. One of the most special aspects of the cottages is Valerie. She truly goes out of her way to ensure that everything is in place to make it a memorable vacation. Valerie even offered to shop for us so groceries would be waiting. We arrived on Monday morning and were greeted when we pulled into the drive by Casper and Bridgett, a pair of large "potcakes." Of course this is not a recognized breed of dog anywhere else but very prevalent on the island. The story of the breed and how they got their name is interesting and Valerie is happy to explain it to you. We found the cottage to be exceptionally clean, well appointed and cool on an otherwise hot day. Valerie explained the layout of the property and gave us an idea of things to do around the cottages. Some would say it's not much but we found it to be plenty. The kayaks are available anytime and, although when the wind is coming at you are a workout, they are tons of fun. We paddled across to Moriah Cay the first day just to try it out and, just as a heads up, when the tide is out you may have to drag the kayak because the water is very shallow in lots of places. Learned that lesson the hard way but still had a ball! We kayaked over again later in the week and went to the other side of the Cay and found the most beautiful beach, unspoiled, uninhabited and all ours. Valerie also let us use her small boat with a motor and this was much easier and she suggested another cove on Man o' War Cay which may have been even more beautiful. We drove to little Exuma and checked out the official beach accesses. The first was really crowded with a family and one other couple...6 people...totally overrun but with a beautiful cove and beach. The next beach access turned out to be even more secluded. We chose to go there one day and stayed for most of the day...got real crowded at one point as a gentleman came to the beach, walked down the other direction, returned and left. There went the neighborhood! We loved the privacy and you could totally get into the feeling of it being your own private paradise on the beaches.
Some suggestions for traveling to Exuma.....We shopped at Exuma Market and found a good selection but expect to pay at least double or more for most items. Everything has to come in by boat or plane and this jacks up prices. One idea is to pack a cooler with food, or a suitcase with staples and bring it with you. We plan to do so on our next trip. There are a number of restaurants but we found that we loved the Fish Fry, a number of small "shacks" where they sell what they caught that day. Crack conch, essentially beaten breaded and fried, grouper fingers, snapper, and conch fritters were our favorites. The meals almost always come with peas and rice, mac and cheese, plaintains or cole slaw. Typically, we found that one order was more than enough for us with all the sides included and would cost 12 or 13 dollars for a full meal. Drinks can get expensive, usually 7 or 8 or more for mixed drinks. Kalik beer is the beer of the Bahamas and probably cheap but not our cup of tea. Did not have a bad meal. Definitely go to Eddie's Edgewater in George Town for Rake and Scrape, interesting music played with some homemade instruments. Other bars and restaurants have entertainment and Valerie is a wealth of information about the various venues. Driving is an experience, drive on the left, but our rental had the steering wheel in the right place and this made it easier. We had no television, no papers and the internet was on Bahamian time for the most part, but we each managed to read a lot of books from the cottage and to just generally veg, which was the idea for the trip anyway. We will definitely go back to visit Valerie and the dogs as this was the most relaxing vacation we've ever had. Thank you Valerie!

If you are looking for a resort experience, move on. If you are looking for peace and quiet and access to some of the most beautiful sand flats, then this is your place. It sits high on a hill, a short walk to the dock. From there you can take the kayaks wherever your heart desires and your arms can paddle. You will see few people all week if you want. Or, take your rental car and explore the many beaches on the island. Grab a drink or food at the local establishments. And, if you need to DOOOO something else, go adventure to the Chat and Chill, or go to the Grotto and swim with the pigs and snorkel, or get a fishing guide for the day etc... This is the kind of place where you can decide to hide, or engage. Valerie is an excellent host. She keeps a freshwater pool on site that is a joy after a day in the sand and sun, or just to hang for the day. Pick up groceries in Georgetown and cook on site (be prepared for a lot less choices, but you won't starve! Remember, it's an island and most has to be shipped in!). The cabins are clean and stocked as expected, but not fancy. This place is a quiet place where you can be an adult and entertain yourself with a good book, the kayaks, fishing, local food etc... We have been here twice and plan to return. Valerie has been here since the 60's and is well respected and well connected. Just ask! She is a great resource to navigating whatever you want on the island. You can also find her email by doing some research. She will answer your questions.

We just returned from a trip to Exuma, staying at Vaction Cottages in Hartswell. Val is a wonderful host with answers and suggestions that made our vacation fun. The cottage is a nice size and has most everything we needed. I loved the dock and the kayak, a number of times I walked down and saw bonefish cruising the area. I took the kayak out and followong Val's tip caught a bunch of snapper and some small grouper. If you are looking for a quiet retreat this is the place. Not a deluxe resort but just what we wanted.
We often sat on the porch and enjoyed the breeze and a beverage after a day exploring.
I did manage to hook a 5-6 lb mutton snapper which we baked at the cottage, just terrific fish. Any questions please email me, if you are going and want a few special places to fish let me know.
