Was put up here for a nightshift work placement, treated splendidly, was given a room that was best placed for no noise, so that I could get a sleep. Worked a treat, slept like a log, my only problem was that because I was working a nightshift I was not really in the mood for food and I really fancied...

Dear Kenny, Many thanks for your kind comments. It was our pleasure to make you feel welcome and it was great to hear that you had a good sleep in our quiet rooms.Taking you to work at 10 p.m. was the least we could do, given that you were working night shift when there was no public transport available...same with...

Lovely traditional pub, very friendly service, good menu all cooked by very good chef. Even a basic mushroom omelette felt like a special dish. Prices reasonable. Wood burning stove was very welcome on a cold day. Will definitely be back.

Had lunch here with a friend, we were the only two eating, such a shame because the food is very good and very reasonably priced. The lady serving was friendly and helpful. Was delighted to find so much fresh garnish with the food - have been to places before who seem to think a couple of lettuce leaves and a...

This is a traditional Scottish hotel in the small village of Marykirk in Angus. Its bar and restaurant are well frequented by locals as well as people travelling from further afield to enjoy the excellent food on offer. You'll find it well booked for the autumn salmon fishing on the river North Esk which is just a mile or so...

Was in the area for salmon fishing on the North Esk and ate a couple of dinners in the hotel. Usual high standard of food and service from Teresa and Gordon in the kitchen. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

We live in Marykirk and have used the Marykirk Hotel for occasional lunches and evening meals for years. Teresa and all her staff are always welcoming and attentive, and the kitchen invariably provides fresh, tasty and ample, meals. A highlight was our 50th wedding anniversary when friends organised a "surprise dinner" when Teresa catered for a party of well over...

Stayed here with fellow fisherman for 4 nights. Very welcoming, brilliant breakfasts and evening meals. Perfect for anyone fishing the North Esk. Looking forward to returning in July. Would highly recommend the steak pie. Rooms very clean and comfortable, wifi not great due to very thick walls, however they are trying to improve it.

We've been to the Marykirk 5 times in the last 3 years!!! It's not on the obvious tourist trails and it's not a 'boutique' hotel but it's warm, cosy and welcoming. It's a locals pub too but you will never feel like an outsider. We stay there because we fish for salmon on the North Esk just down the road...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Marykirk Hotel is situated in the charming village of Marykirk, just 4 miles from Montrose town centre, and 30 minutes drive south of Aberdeen along the A90 dual carriageway. The Hotel nestles in the rolling Montrose countryside only 200 metres from the River Esk, world famous for its salmon and trout fishing. A former Coaching Inn, the hotel was built in the mid 1800s. As a Grade C Listed Building, it still retains original charm and character although tastefully modernised: all guest room accommodation have en-suite facilities, central heating, flat screen TVs, and tea/coffee making facilities. Standing in an acre of grounds, the Marykirk Hotel has a landscaped beer garden plus a small front car park and a rear car park for 20+ cars. Both car parks are monitored by CCTV. The Hotel has a full Hotel Licence and a Children's Licence. Families with children are particularly welcome in both the bar and restaurant. As well as our cosy Stables Bar serving bar meals every lunchtime and evenings, the Marykirk's Esk Restaurant seats 35 persons and is open in the evenings from Friday to Sundays, offering quality dining at competitive prices. ... more   less
