Don't go here if you want a meal 🍴 as you will wait for anything up to 2 hrs as we all did. The service was lousy the meal was medioca and above all there was also a decrpensy over a poss smashed window that went near us. We won't be returning.

I have stayed here a few times now when working in the area. Always try and book when I can. The rooms are clean and spacious. Although the building fronts on to the A68, the road is very quiet of a night, so no traffic noise to worry about and there is ample off road parking behind the hotel. The... More

Stayed with our two young children in a family room for 2 nights. Lovely bright room, spotlessly clean. No bath but strong shower. We could access the wifi for both the hotel and pub (both required passwords). Ate in hotel both nights, food was excellent, very good value for money, kids ate for free with a paying adult, no issues... More

Stopped for 2 nights. Room old fashioned & bathroom in need of renovation but very clean & comfortable. Staff did not engage in any form of conversation although polite & smiles! that was it, so no atmosphere. When having an evening meal we had to politely ask another gentlemen at a nearby table if we could borrow his salt &... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. Lovely room with very spacious bathroom.Slightly quaint but excellent comfort and cleanliness.Very reasonable price and worth every penny.Due to very early starts and other committments did not eat in hotel but restaurant/bar was busy with diners. Staff very friendly and helpful Will stay there again.

Stayed for two nights as a base for walking within the area. The room (number2) was very warm, had hot water, very crisp white sheets and incredibly clean however the toilet was a nightmare to flush and have read this is not a new problem. The food ordered at the bar was good but I feel the breakfasts could be... More

Having a wee run to Kelso with our friends we decided to call into the Black Bull on Saturday 13/12/2014 for some lunch. No particular reason for this location other than we saw it from the road! What a pleasant surprise. We were welcomed and sat down in lovely comfortable surroundings (added to by the xmas decorations). There was another... More

When we arrived and booked in we were told where to find our room. It was freezing which was a disappointment given the fact we were to be changing. Fortunately we were only in it for 45 minutes. On returning at 10.45pm we discovered there was still no heating on in either the bathroom or bedroom. My husband went downstairs... More

I stayed here for a couple of nights with my boyfriend whilst he was taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon. We were pleasantly surprised with this quaint little hotel, we arrived late and we're still welcomed. Our room was situated on the first floor, whereby we had to climb a number of stairs, then walk down a long, non lit... More

Have been here recently a couple of times for bar suppers. Excellent food and service with friendly staff. Great menu with huge choice. We have recommended the Black Bull to friends who were unaware that it has new owners who have clearly made improvements.
