Robert met our group of 10 when we exited Mulu Airport and was transported to his homestay which is only 3 mins drive away. We were pleasantly surprised that Robert & Dina had blocked out their home just for us. Our 4D3N itinerary including full catering were pre-arranged with Robert before we arrived, included the Wind Cave, Clearwater Cave, a long boat ride to visit a Penan settlement, Paku Waterfall, Lang Cave & Deer Cave.

Robert who speaks good English is very informative and Dina dishes out superb meals. Their home is simple, clean and rooms had fans. There is 1 on suite bathroom, a common bathrooms & toilets outside. The showers are without heating as you dont need it anyway due to the tropical heat. Their power supply comes from their own generator which is switched on for a few hours in the night.

We enjoyed our time at the D'Cave Homestay. Highly recommended to stay here for their hospitality and to support the Mulu local community who are deprived of basic essentials.

I don't recommend this homestay as I had a bad experience with them.
My main issue is that they asked me to pay in advance, not only for the homestay itself but also for a prepayment towards the park activities. I didn't like it and was a bit worried about the unusual practice for this type of accommodation but I agreed to pay to be sure that I would have a place to stay.
When I arrived at Mulu airport, I was informed by a local woman that the owners had closed the homestay and were leaving to Miri! Although I can understand that unexpected events occur (on this occasion I was told that the owner was unwell) they could have contacted me, even the day before, to inform me of the situation. Their handling of the situation was very poor and made worse because of the big prepayment I had made. A few days later I was informed by their neighbor that they have closed the homestay on a few occasions and apparently just went to Miri for pleasure but I cannot confirm if this is true or not. As for my stay, I ended up alone for two days in the homestay next to D'cave. I did not pay any more money as there is sort of a dubious arrangement between the two places but I was let down by D'cave owners and did not have the experience I was looking for.

It is a house, with a few rooms and a few toilets. I've managed to book 4 rooms for 13 pax in our group. For late booking, you probably had to sleep on bed located in the living room and no privacy of course with people walking around the area. Some room has private bathroom. Probably for couples who need more privacy, u can request for queen size bedroom with private bathroom. We stayed for a night with RM35 per head including breakfast. Upon our arrival from the airport, we had requested for buffet lunch with RM16 per head because the food in Mulu can be very expensive. The food is nice with generous portion (1 meat, 3 vege, white rice, soup, fruit & cordial drink). Breakfast was delicious and filling with fried noodles, fruits, toast bread and hot drinks (tea/coffee). Basic facilities, has TV, no towel provided, not air-conditioning room but with fan. The owner, Mr Robert & Mrs Dina is very friendly. Located 15 minutes walk from the airport and 5 minutes walk to Park HQ. For booking email: beckhamjunior40@yahoo.com

It's a nice and cosy place to be, located just 10 minutes' walk to the airport and 6 minutes to the Mulu National Park. The main dorm was big enough to accommodate 10 of us while the rest slept in the smaller rooms. The family was very friendly and would try their best to entertain our many requests. A variety of cool drinks were available for sale, cheaper than anywhere else in Mulu. Their tasty breakfast was something we looked forward to, if you can get past the flies (it's the tropical rainforest after all). If you have problems with mosquitoes and other insects, bring along an insect repellent. Frogs and crickets can become very active at night. If you are a light sleeper, you might like to have a set of ear plugs. One more thing: Electricity is provided by a power generator at the back of the house. Normally, it operates from dusk til dawn. So, bring extra batteries for your electronic devices i.e. cellphones, cameras, torchlight, etc.

This was a really lovely place to stay. Basic but Dina and Robert made us feel so welcome. Food was great and the room was clean. Bathroom is very basic cold water only but totally refreshing! Robert can organise tours and airport transfer (5min)and it is only a five minute walk to the park.

We stayed at D'Cave Homestay for 4 nights (ensuite private room) and our stay was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Borneo. The hosts, Robert & Dina are extremely friendly and caring! Yes, it is possible to stay in Mulu without paying a fortune at the Marriot or park HQ!

Spend your nights at Dina & Robert's homestay and support the locals. Dina prepares wonderful food every night upon request (very cheap). We also loved the tasty pancakes for breakfast. The place is located a 10mins walk to the park entrance. Also a 10mins walk from the airport.

The place is clean, bed was comfortable. We really felt at home at this remote location thanks to Robert & Dina's hospitality! Robert, who is a former park guide, also offers private tours to the park (same price as the park, highly recommended!). He took us to the Deer & Lang cave. His knowledge about the park is endless. We really loved doing this with a local instead of joining the large tours offered by the park.

We booked our stay through Whatsapp by contacting following number:
+60 11 1508 5990
Their active e-mail address is: dcavehomestay@gmail.com

Highly recommended!

Being four students travelling on a tight budget, our trip would have in no way gone as smoothly as it did without the fantastic accommodation provided by Robert and Dina, homeowners of D'Cave. At only RM35 each for a provided room, our stay was a happy and comfortable one. The homestay is within close proximity to the park (about a 600m walk), as well as to the airport, placing it in an extremely convenient location. The owners are lovely people; Robert being extremely helpful with his knowledge on the park and its attraction, and Dina with her scrumptious daily breakfasts and eagerness to accommodate. The home itself was nice and simple, and the stay there felt traditional and comfortable. Everyone got along well, and as long as you treat everyone there with respect, you'd receive no less back.
The rooms are nice and simple, there's constant running water, and the cold showers turn out beneficial after a long days worth of sweaty hikes.
A big reason why i'm also promoting these homestays is because there is a injustice at play between the park management and the locals of Mulu. These homestays are run by residents of the local community, and your money can benefit not only the homeowners but also the local area outside the park's influence. Your stay will also feel a lot more personal with the locals as well as the national park.
Our trip in Mulu was fantastic, and D'Cave played a big part in that.

We stayed here with our three young children. We had a six bed room with fans and access to a shared bathroom. Electricity is on for parts of the day and all night until 7am so we slept well! MYR 35 per night ( 25 for the children) which included a delicious, varied breakfast. Hosts Dina and Robert were fantastic. The home stay is a short walk to the airport and to the National park. Dina organised tours of the caves for us too. I would definitely stay here again. Internet is hit and miss so maybe phone if you haven't heard back.
