Travellers' Choice
Mas de la Costa is situated in the heart of the Matarrana region, in south eastern Aragon, bordering Catalonia. The hotel lies some 5 km from Valderrobres, a charming medieval village with narrow cobbled streets. The Renaissance architecture of the town hall and square add to its charm. The hotel itself lies on a 23ha plot of land, surrounded by olive and almond groves and overlooks the pine covered mountains of the Puertos de Beceite (nature reserve). The hotel offers: - Spacious bedrooms, tastily furnished and decorated. - A gourmet restaurant, serving a daily changing menu of fresh, seasonal foods. - A library filled with books and (mostly French) comics. - Sitting areas with comfortable sofas and cosy fireplaces to unwind and relax. - A cinema room. - A small spa with sauna and Turkish bath. - Magnificent views from every window. - An outdoor swimming pool. - Various terraces and gardens to enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of our natural surroundings.

We were lucky enough to fall upon this gorgeous hotel soon after it had opened, a few years ago, and have since returned countless times. We are continuously marvelled by the care of all the details, from the decoration to the cuisine, to the bedding and the service. Every dinner is accompanied by candles, fireplaces and soothing music, every breakfast is a feast. The surroundings are stunning, allowing one to simply walk in every direction to enjoy incredible views of the Caixa and other mountains. The weather is unbelievably good and the region is full with Medieval towns with NO tourists. For those who love to drive, there are fantastic roads, with just enough curves (and little traffic) to keep any enthusiast happy. If you are a road biker, these roads are a dream. And for mountain bikers, there are lots of paths and gravel roads through beautiful landscape. I would recommend the region to everyone and especially, to take advantage of the Mas de la Costa for an ideal stay.

The town of Valderobres is very historic and full of history with its own cathedral and castle - well worth a visit. The hotel Mas de la Costa is just outside the town and with great views. When you arrive at the parking area you are immediately captured by the hotel's impressive, welcoming and warm vista. From the minute you arrive you're treated with the utmost respect. The bedrooms I've stayed in were all exceptional - up there with the best I've been in during my travels worldwide - I like the fact the bedrooms don't have a TV. The restaurant is amazing, the food is awesome and the bodega impressive. There is a fantastic terrace area with tables and chairs where you can choose to dine if you prefer to eat al-fresco. I will definitely include this place on my itinerary next time I'm in the area.

We came across Hotel Mas de la Costa quite by accident, and are happy that we did! Tucked away in a rural area just outside the historic village of Valderrobres, in the hill country of eastern Spain, this property is nothing short of exquisite. The hotel, surrounded by naturalistic, rustic grounds, set in an orchard and encompassed by mountains, is a study in wonderful timeless architecture and rich appointments. Not a beat is missed inside or outside. We were passing through and only had the opportunity to have one dinner, but were blown away by the cuisine, which is world-class by anyone's standards. Françoise and Christian were warm, accommodating, hosts that were engaging and fun to chat with. Highly recommended, and well worth seeking out.

I recently paid a 5th visit to Mas de la Costa in Valderrobres. It’s becoming a bit like a second home in Spain for me now. On the outskirts of Valderrobres in Aragon, a region that is not heavily visited but is stunning (described as Spain’s Tuscany), it’s rugged, hilly with vast groves of olives and almonds. There’s plenty to see and do, great walking and cycling region too. The Mas itself is beautiful. I find it incredibly relaxing to be there and sleep better than I do at home while I’m there. All the creature comforts you could wish for, set in a stunning backdrop, surround by olive trees and with uninterrupted views of the hills and mountains surrounding it. If you are looking for peace, relaxation, great food and understated luxury, this is somewhere you should head for. I’ve been reluctant to review it before as I don’t want it to get so popular that I can’t get a room there when I want!! However, Christian and Francoise and all the team there deserve every success, so visit and experience it. Finally, the staff are amazing - friendly, welcoming, quietly efficient, anticipating your needs but not fussy and intrusive. They, and the setting in Spain’s Tuscan hills are the real delight.

We returned to Mas de la Costa for a second visit but this time with our grown up children plus partners. It was just as beautiful as we remembered and we really had a wonderful weekend. The staff are all so welcoming and friendly and helped us enormously to organise trips and activities to keep us busy. It was absolutely wonderful!
