The first impression of the hotel is good. The hotel located at 2nd floor of the building, below is a restaurant and dance studio/gym above. We rented the 4 bed dormitory room with windows, it's pretty small the room but overall was good, with small USB fan and light on each cubicle. However, one problem is that the bed is next to the windows and windows opening are right above the restaurant signboard, it's pretty dirty with dirt and molds. The window will not be open as dusts will fly into the beds we slept, and the room is stuffy as there is no air flow, so we requested a fan from the hotel reception. The receptionist was very unpleasant and unhappy to help-out, and mentioned that other dormitory room is the same as well. We were rejected until the third time, unwillingly the receptionist borrow us a small table fan. From that moment, they were very unfriendly and even we smile towards them. Their attitude is changing, and luckily we stayed for one night. I would recommend if they are more helpful and friendly.…
Very nice hostel in Tanah Rata. The place is clean and comfortable. The price is very good and the owner is very welcoming and warm. He gave me a lot of advice for my stay in Tanah Rata. I really enjoyed my stay.
Really nice place. Friendly staff who are always around. I really liked the bed boxes, it's nice to have some privacy and makes a change from bunk beds. All the beds have a plug socket, a fan, a light, a mirror and a little pull-down shelf. Breakfast is just toast with some spreads, and there's free tea and coffee available all day. A social place, I met some nice people and Cameron Highlands as an area is a really nice place to visit. If I ever come back to this area of Malaysia I would stay here again for sure!
In general, this is a cheap accommodation, so please do not have high expectations about room quality and services. Pros: The accommodation is strategically located in the town centre of Tanah Rata where there are dozens of restaurants and shops. The accommodation is quiet, and the bed space is functional for a few nights. Cons: some staff including the owner are disinterested in answering enquires and do not bother to give tourist information. Particularly when you talk to them, they do not seem to be attentive, and their attitude is not welcoming.
Im coming from kuala lumpur.. I tour guide and private tour driver.. Everytime i came to cameron highland this is my 1 choice for accommodation.. Everything perfect.. Good wifi connection clean and comfy bed nice decoration and they also provide free breakfast with fresh tea and coffee from cameron highland plantation and fresh strawberry jem.. Bed with window very nice but have gym and zumba class upstair that too noisy..
The hostel is 2m walk from the main part and even closer to the bus terminal. The dorms are perfect and realy clean. The staff is great and can give you information about the trails. Ill stay here again for sure while my next visit in the beautiful Cameron Highlands
The man and lady who run this hostel were such lovely people and very helpful. I would definetly recommend staying here for a couple of nights, not far from bus stop, breakfast included and nicest hostel I have stayed in for a while. Thankyou very much 😊
The staff at sleepbox were so helpful and friendly. I couldn’t fault the place at all. So clean and cosy here. Very good showers and communal area for reading or coffee drinking. I wasn’t very well when I arrived here and the staff (Mark in particular!!) absolutely went above and beyond and was so so kind, offering to fetch me food / medicine. Credit to him that I still enjoyed my time here despite being so under the weather. Thank you so so much, would definitely return here! Emily and Grace
Absolutely fantastic hostel! Perfect location 5 mins from the town centre. Boxbeds were cosy and private and the bathroom facilities were excellent. Breakfast was ideal! Staff helped us so much with booking trips and ongoing travel and even gave us a little keyring when we checked out which was a lovely touch.
We stayed here for 2 nights whilst exploring the Cameron Highlands, and overall we had a pleasant stay and would recommend here to anyone on a budget. More in depth review below: First thing to note is that despite its name 'Sleepbox HOTEL', this is indeed, undoubtedly a hostel with shared facilities and bedrooms. If you are looking for a hotel with a private room - this isn't it. THE ROOM (if you can call it that): We had a double 'box' (not really sure what to call it). It's the first time I have stayed in anything like this. I have stayed in plenty of traditional hostels, but no pod or box hostels like this so was intrigued by how it would rate. The box was great, had a nice big double bed. Very basic inside with just a mirror and a small USB fan which was about as useful as a mosquito's fart. Luggage storage in a locker under each bed, plenty of room in there for 2 bug backpacks plus hand luggage. Shared bathrooms were OK, they were cleaned each morning by staff and maintained well. The thing that surprised me the most about our stay was how there are about 40 or more boxes in a single space. I thought there would be seperate rooms, in which would be 6, 8 or 10 boxes. However that's not the case. Our box was near to the bathroom entrance at one end of the room, which meant people were constantly walking past the end of our bed, at all hours. And listening to their bathroom habits in the early morning or late at night wasn't much fun! Also with such a big crowded space tends to come more noise as people gain anonymity in a crowd, especially when there are curtains shutting you off from the communal space. THE LOCATION: We had a rental car so we could get around Cameron Highlands easily on our own. The hotel is a short 10 minute walk away from the nearest town where there are plenty of restaurants and shops etc. There are also restaurants and a couple of shops next to the hotel. As for accessing the further afield areas of Cameron Highlands, I am not a source that can help you with that one! All I'll say is we were glad we had a car, so perhaps consider that if it's an option for you. BREAKFAST: Just a simple toast and spread breakfast with the addition of banana bread which was nice. Tea and coffee on the go too. Can't complain, nothing amazing but gets you going for the day. OVERALL: They also advertise 'free parking' under 'facilities' when booking. This isn't the case. Parking is free between 6pm and 8am (as it is anywhere in most of Malaysia, but if you leave your car outside the hotel from 8am until 6, it will cost 0.60RM an hour. Only a small fee I know, but just find it aggravating that they advertise 'free parking' which clearly isn't free throughout your whole stay. But all in all we had a good stay, and it was a unique experience. I would recommend it to anyone staying in the region for its lower price, and as far as hostels go - it's a pretty decent one!…
