Detailed Reviews
We decided to leave Taman Negara earlier and very spontaniously, so we booked this place in the morning and moved in in the afternoon. To say that I was happy with this place is to say nothing.
1. This home stay is very beautifull and cozy. There are a lot of very nice and lovely details you could feel the coziness from every corner, everything was made with love.
2. JS is the best host I’ve ever met. Her english is perfect and she is very, very nice and professional. She advised us to go to Langkawi throught Penang and we didn’t regret about it. She deliberately explained us everything and advised where to go and what to do. She provided us with maps, taxis, restaurants, touristic attractions, tours and next hotels. She ironed my jacket and gave me her warm jacket, because I was freezing at night. Unfortunately, we had to move out the next day, because everything was already booked. However, she recommended us a hotel just the next door and invited us to have dinner with other guests next night. She was always available per Whatsapp. Last day I’ve forgot our adapter there and she put it in the post box with some cookies. How sweet is it???
3. JS and another host Jessica have cooked for us amazing VEGAN breakfast. If was whole grains toasts, one with scrumbled tofu, the other one with marmelade, banana and strawberry, plus mango and dragon fruit. You can choose time between 7 and 11 am and the breakfast will be on the table by this time.
4. I really can’t find any words how to describe this amazing dinner. They cooked for 9 people for 3 of us completely vegan. We had 5 ! vegan dishes – two salads, tofu, tempeh, rolls, whole grained rice mix with quinoa and vegetables. This was a heaven! So tasty and delicious I thought I will die, so full I was. And we were welcomed as special guests, because we’ve already had to move out by this time, which we appreciated a lot. Moreover, because I am a nutritionist and do blogging but was too late to participate in the cooking process, JS made for me pictures of recipie steps and promised to send me the recipies. The best host ever, what should I say.
5. The room was very comportable and clean, we had a great view and our own bathroom. We could have vegan cookies, coffee, tea, soy milk and water as much as we wanted.
6. All other guest were super nice and we really enjoyed our time there.
I loved this place so much, that I will even post this review on my own homepage. So far the best bed and breakfast we’ve ever been in. Many thanks to Jaycee and Jezzica for such a great experience, hospitality and care.

While touring Malaysia, we decided to stay at Do Chic In for our Cameron Highlands leg of the journey, and this was the best decision we made during our holiday. Not only is the place super cozy, with a great view, but it has the best hosts we have ever had the please of meeting!
Jaycee and Jezzica are simply amazing. Very friendly, and always in a good mood with excellent English and cooking skills to die for! From even before we arrived to Ipoh to take our rental up into the Highlands, we were simply smothered with information on how to reach their place and what to watch out for on the road!
Not only that, but their knowledge as locals was invaluable to us and helped us make the most of our stay there. They knew exactly what the tourist bus schedules are and had suggestions on where to go and at what time in order to avoid the hordes of tourists. Moreover, they also suggested we visit some lesser known spots which were breathtaking! We had made our own plans before going there, but we were very happy to switch things around at the suggestions of Jaycee - and thanks to her, every bit of our stay in Cameron Highlands was amazing!
Furthermore, on our departure day Jaycee suggested that, since we had some time left before delivering the rental car, we should visit one last spot that is very well hidden from tourists - Kek Lok Tong, down at the outskirts of Ipoh. Man, were we glad we got this advice! The road to this temple complex is so well hidden that we would have never found it without local help. Nevertheless, thanks to Jaycee's advice, we were treated to the most beautiful cave temple complex we have ever seen, opening up to breathtaking gardens in the back. This is hands down way better than the more famous Batu Caves in Kuala Lumpur.
If you are ever visiting Cameron Highlands, Do Chic In is the place to stay. Thanks Jaycee and Jezzica for your amazing hospitality!

We stayed with Jessica and Jaycee for two nights in Tanah Rata during our trip through Malaysia. Their place is located very centrally and is spacious, tidy and has all the amenities one could ask for. What really makes them stand out is their dedication and passion for hospitality. Make sure to check out their home cooking and get some great recommendations for the Highlands and Malaysia in general. Definitely worth a recommendation!

The Do Chic In consists of two joined apartments in a massive fake Tudor complex ten minutes walk from the centre of town. A friend and I stayed in the two back rooms with ensuite bathrooms and views of the jungle. The rooms were spacious and clean, but not very comfortable. The only drawer contained three hairdryers. The sheets were thin, and directly on the mattress. A regularly washed mattress protector would be more sanitary. The towels were thin and dingy, and were not replaced until we asked. The toilet did not flush properly. To have a shower, you have to leave your room and cross the shared area to turn on the hot water 15 minutes in advance.
The wifi was so slow it was unuseable. You can't boil water for coffee and tea - it is kept in Thermos flasks so is not hot enough. There is no choice for breakfast and the timing is rigid.
The balconies overlooking the jungle were unuseable because they were full of drying laundry.
The front door is barred and padlocked. It feels like a prison, and the padlock is fiddly to undo. Fire hazard?
We found Jaycee to be difficult to communicate with. I'm taking a risk, leaving a negative review, because I see that in the past Jaycee has gone in for lengthy rebuttals and justifications.
We thought the Do Chic Inn was overpriced and overrated.

After searching for a while from the directions given we eventually found the place in one of about 15 muti-story apartment blocks. First impressions were that the place was not as advertised. Do Chic Inn is a homestay, not a B&B and definately not an inn. The owners, who are quite nice though a little particular, live there too. The apartment is clean BUT: The advertised internet is non existant, the rooms are quite noisey from the road at the back, its a good 10 minutes walk to the main area of town and 15 minutes up hill on the way back. The bath without a plug is another misleading advertisement (owners said they can't get the right size). This would be a great homestay if advertised correctly and a lesser price . Hosts are friendly and helpful and cook a nice french toast breakfast, but perhaps need to realise that genuine advertisement and reasonable pricing are the key to happy customers.

Response from Dochicin, Owner at Do Chic In
Responded 17 Jan 2013
Thank you for your honest feedback. Yes, we (the owners) stay in one of the 6 rooms of this B&B. While the definition of homestay vs B&B can be grey, we hope to explain that there has been no wilful misrepresentation on our part. Both the terms "B&B" and "homestay" were mentioned in our description ("Hotel Amenities") here at Trip Advisor along with the fact that we stay on the premises. We offer a place to stay (Bed) & provide Breakfast. Hence, we are a B&B. In fact, from what we know, there are many B&Bs around the world whereby the owners or caretakers stay at the very same premises. We are just another such B&B. As for the internet, the service provider have been having problems providing us with the promised bandwidth that we have subscribed to. Apparently, usage growth have exceeded the capacity supply in the area. So they have to upgrade their equipment and that will take some time. The signal broadcast towers can also be affected by bad weather. This problem was beyond our control and we apologise for any inconvenience or frustration that it may have caused you. We are actively pursuing this problem so that it will be rectified soon by the service provider. We are also considering other options. As for the "noise", it has been generally remarked that our location is one of the quietest available in Cameron Highlands as we are further away from the main roads and traffic congestion spots. The nearest main road is more than 1.5km away. It is so quiet, that you are even able to hear cars from far away at night. It's very difficult if not possible to have a place that is quiet and at the same time very near to town. For many, a quick 10min walk in the nice cooling fresh air of Cameron Highlands is an ideal way to get back to nature and relaxed lifestyle. For those who prefer to save time and had come by car, the town is but a 1 minute drive away. An ideal distance for many who are seeking peace and yet the convenience of being near to amenities in town. We are sorry to hear that you find our pricing unreasonable. While we have priced ourselves reasonably in comparison with our peers, we understand that everyone are entitled to their views. We strive to provide a good, clean environment for good nights of sleep on our comfortable beds and clean sheets while serving home-cooked, nutritious and delicious meals. All with heartfelt and personalised service. Such would not be viable under very cheap pricing as offered by the lower end budget places. Having said that, we have no quarrel with the pricing of other operators as they know what their product/service is worth. As for the bathroom, everything is in working condition as you pointed out except for the irreplaceable missing plug for the bathtub that was lost by one of our guests . To rectify this, we'll be removing the bathtub and upgrading our bathrooms to provide an even better experience for our guests. This has already been scheduled prior to your feedback. Thank you all the same for pointing it out. We apologise that you found that your stay with us has not been up to mark. Your feedback has been very much appreciated and we'll get right down to rectifying the problems and ensure that all future guests will not be similarly disappointed.

Stayed here for two nights...it was sort of like staying with your parents. All I could ascertain from the large metal security gate outside the front door, that needed to locked even when you were in, was there must be a lot of house break ins here. This would be a complete fire hazard and fire brigades nightmare. Also when we came in from eating dinner, Jaycee was waiting up to sort out the security padlock, this made us feel she was quite paranoid. So if you want some freedom go somewhere else...

Dear Samantha, Thank you for your honest feedback. The metal grill gate is our compromise of providing security for all guests while enabling cool fresh air to ventilate the premises for comfort of all guests. You might even notice that metal grills are a common feature in households and business premises in Malaysia. It is something of Malaysian culture that we'd not think twice about except when tourists from other countries point out to us. We have taken into account fire risks and thus guests have access to the grill gate key so that no one gets locked in during emergencies. Fire extinguishers are also placed at strategic locations at our premises. I was awakened by your return after midnight. So I came out to confirm that it was indeed one of our guests, and check your preferred time for breakfast. Also to ensure that the premises are secure at night. While Cameron Highlands is considered to be a relatively low crime rate area in Malaysia, we do not take our guests' safety for granted. We pride ourselves in caring for our guests as one of our friends while respecting their privacy. Some clients have in fact commended us on our security and fire safety arrangements in comparison to other B&Bs. We apologise if our concern caused some discomfort. Your feedback has been very much appreciated. We hope you will enjoy the rest of your holidays. Cheers!

Homely stay. Well decorated rooms and dining area. Food served is tasty, however portion is really small. We were hungry in the night and no way to go out and buy something. There is no way of online payment and bank transfer from a different country is a pain.
Shared bathroom. Much less freedom than having your own room in a hotel.
Overall, would not recommend for those who would like to have their own space. Would not return here.

Responded 9 Aug 2016
Dear Ms. Anindita De & Mr. Debraj De, Thank you for your review. However, we would like to clarify few points of yours that might mislead other guests after reading your review. We remember both you and your husband very well even though your stay with us was in year 2014. It took us some time to check your room booking, it actually dated 26-28 JULY 2014 for 2nights stay inclusive of 2 breakfast & 1complimentary dinner (a promotional period then). We would expect to have read this review in year 2014 instead of this year 2016. This is quite a 'LATE' review as was dated 2years plus ago. It would have been more useful and informative to other readers if you wrote the review right after your stay in July 2014 then. **FYI, we have made a lot of improvements and upgrades on our facilities, amenities, meals throughout these few years after your stay. We are sure you could read all the positive reviews on TripAdvisor website. **FYI, Recently, we added ceiling fan to all rooms, and upgraded our WI-FI network/Internet again for better connectivity. Firstly, you booked 2nights stay with us but of different room categories for both nights. First night, it was Master Bedroom with attached bathroom and second night, it was the Twin Room with shared bathroom. Clearly, staying in the Master Bedroom would have more privacy and no need to share bathroom with other guests. At that time, you were just sharing the bathroom with us 2 owners Jaycee & Jezzica and we only arrange 2 Twin Rooms to share 1 Common bathroom (4 pax) and there's also another common bathroom at the living room side just in case of 'emergency'. Secondly, with regards to the portion of our meals served (breakfast & COMPLIMENTARY dinner at that time of your booking). We usually prepare additional rice for our guests to add-on during dinner and our guests could always request us for bigger breakfast portion if the serving is not enough and we normally cook extra for guests then. However, there was no request for additional rice during the dinner nor during breakfast. At that period, we only serve 3 Dishes + Rice for those with COMPLIMENTARY dinner and our portion serving is usually more than enough. **You mentioned that you were hungry at night, perhaps you have the habit of having late dinner or supper (our dinner fixed at 7:00p.m, maybe is too early for you). In fact, there are few restaurants in Tanah Rata town which operates for 24hrs and few convenience stores that are open until 11.30PM. You can always get food or snacks if you did go hungry at night. Only depends whether both of you are willing to walk to Tanah Rata town which is 5-10mins/1km+ away from our home. **Up to date, we only receive feedbacks or reviews from guests that our portion for the 'Chinese set dinner' were too much or breakfast served at a sufficient portion. **FYI, we are serving 4 Dishes + Rice for those who book our optional Chinese Set Dinner. As for the payment, we have clearly stated to you during your direct booking with us that only bank transfer was available and we do not have any credit card terminal facility at our home. **If you think that it was inconvenient and a bit more costly to make a bank transfer from Singapore then, you could have just cancel the reservation. At that time, we have yet to use any online booking websites. **We insisted on prepayment as we experienced many cases where the 'guests' JUST MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR FUN and never turn up. This cause losses to us as we have only 5 rooms for rental and also would be unfair to those who would really want to stay with us. **FYI, our guests can now make payment using credit card if room reservation is made via AirBnB. And of course, international bank transfer can be made via Western Union, which is convenient and the charges is at a reasonable charge. We believe staying at a hotel would be a more suitable accommodation for you both as our home are meant for travellers who wants to experience living under the same roof with locals and also meeting other travellers too. **For those who wants privacy and not meeting other travellers, hotel would be a better choice. Thank you once again on your late review and have a good day! Best wishes, Jaycee & Jezzica @ Do Chic In B&B

Hi, in the Twin Room with shared common bathroom got 2 single beds joint together (like size of King size bed) and we can also separate the beds based on request. If prefer double bed, then book Master bedroom with attached bathroom. Comes with 1 King size bed and nice view of the mountain/forest and private bathroom.
