Hill Top is located at Tanah Rata and for all the times that we have gone to Cameron Highlands, this has to be the one time that we truly felt amazed by the rolling mist as it envelopes the bungalow that wowed us as we pulled up the driveway. The house overlooks a valley and there is dense forestation all around.

The house is over a hundred years old and although the furniture is mostly antique I must say the bed and pillows are super comfortable. Even the bathrooms may be a little creepy at first but the lighting is bright enough to make you feel comfortable. For someone who seldom has to bathe in the cold, I was most intrigued by the gas water heater. Seeing the flame light up inside the water heater was definitely a treat!

The sprawling garden make for a gorgeous photo background and it is so well kept and manicured. Ancient trees line the garden covered in moss and ferns of all kinds - great for taking your young ones to learn about a different kind of flora.

The Hill Top bungalow experience would not be complete if we do not have Mr Choong’s amazing homecooked meals!

Mr Choong can whip up amazing cuisines of both Chinese and Western. Every meal was jaw droppingly amazing and even better than the standards of a good restaurant.

I will miss his homemade scones and the jam that he painstakingly cooks and bottles on days when there are no visitors. You can even order from him and bring home scones and jam as souvenirs!

He receives guests, chats with us, cooks for us and cleans the house on his own while keeping his small family in the adjoining wing to the bungalow. My daughter enjoyed playing with his young kids too! They enjoyed badminton and a bit of ball kicking around the garden.

I’m left in amazement at how he makes it a one man show - truly continuing the legacy left over by his mother, Mrs Chong, the caretaker at the bungalow for well over thirty years.

Have stayed in several bungalows in Cameron Highlands, and this can be considered one of the better ones. With four bedrooms and the options for extra mattresses, this place can accommodation a big group comfortably. The location is just nice - between Tanah Rata and Brinchang. Being high up at a hilltop, you have your privacy, and there are less flies compared to other areas.

Although the bungalow and most of the furniture is vintage, the living room has modern sofas and a huge TV. The fireplace in all the rooms are vintage, but no longer can be used as the chimneys are blocked. The bedrooms were spacious with lots of light coming from the windows. The beds were comfortable with clean and fresh sheets and ample blankets. The bathrooms have pretty old tiles and bathtubs, which is not so pleasing to me, but the water heater was working fine, though some others complained of some leaking.

What is great about this place is the excellent service provided by the caretaker, Mr Choong. We catered for a steamboat and BBQ dinner from him. His Hakka 'yong-tau'foo' was delicious, freshly made and went well with the steamboat. The BBQ was good, but in both cases, it would be great of there was more quantity in the seafood. The kitchen is shared with the caretaker - it is old but functional.

The garden was huge, both at the front and the right side, so the kids had great fun playing there. Bring some rugs or mats so that you can sit out on the grass when the weather is fine.

We will stay here again should we hold another family-get-together at Cameron Highlands.

Very important to note though, that there is no Wi-Fi here, and there are many blind spots in the bungalow for the mobile network as well, so sometimes the calls don't go through. I had 3G data, but there was only ONE spot in the whole place where I could at least get connected, but on a pretty weak connection.

We had a hard time finding the place as the signboard was not clear, the reason given by the house keepr, Mr Choong was to prevent outsider from coming in. It was a long drive up to the bungalow and it was a bit creepy at first as the drive way was covered with forestation, however it was a treat to the eyes once we cleared the driveway, the bungalow exudes the old classic English charm, most of the furniture were antique, as my family do not appreciate antiques, we felt that some of the furniture can be upgraded or refurbished. Even the water heater in 2 of the bathrooms were gas heated, we had a fun time watching the fire came on to boil the water when we turn on the heater, but controlling the heater can be a challenge. The place provided clean towels but do remember to bring your own shampoo and bath gel, the place only provided bar soap.

The place has a huge garden and it was perfect for our kids to play balls and everyone had a fun time. The garden was well kept and beautiful with flowers in bloom. Mr Choong was very friendly and he has a small vegetable farm within the premise which we visited. The living room has a small TV and DVD player, so do remember to bring some DVD for entertainment. We catered bbq from Mr Choong on the last night, the roast leg of lamb was perfect though we thought the bbq was a bit pricey. Having said that I still think it was charming to have bbq in the garden under the stars.

I would definitely recommend the place for group with more than 10 person as the place is big with 4 bedrooms, it is a beautiful place though a little run down in the interior, but the big and beautiful garden made up for it.

A vintage house that gives a very cozy and homely feeling to all guest. Home to a beautiful garden, the huge patch of green field is definitely a bliss for kids running about.

Very friendly host with excellent hospitality. We had BBQ for dinner which included generous serving of chicken wings, pork chop, prawns, squid, mushrooms, sweet corn with home made salad dressing at a reasonable, affordable price. However, it would have been perfect if drinks were provided to complement the BBQ. The place, however does not provide WiFi service.

Overall, an amazing place for a relaxing retreat.

Stayed in this classic 4 bedroom 3 bath English Tudor bungalow for 2 nights with the family.Driving up the narrow winding road leading up to the house was a bit scary since it was a bit misty and kind of dark on a rainy day. However, the sight of the house and its immaculate gardens drew a lot of oohs and ahhs from our group.

Very old furnishings in the bedrooms and dining room. According to Mr Choong, the friendly housekeeper, most of the furniture dates back to the early 1900s. Very old bathroom and toilets too, the sink, bathtubs and wc are antiques in their own right! One thing i like about the house is the lovely original wood flooring that runs throughout the house. Sure beats musty smelling carpet at some of the highlands' hotels.

Albeit the old furnishings, the interior of the house was clean and the beds did not smell musty. The bathrooms were clean too. The housekeeper, Mr Choong provides meals on request and of course charges are separate from the rental of the bungalow. The scones are to die for! We actually ordered scones for tea on arrival but they were so good, my brother insisted on having some for breakfast on our last morning there. The homemade strawberry jam was lovely too. The roast lamb and reallly 'crackling' pork were also good. The apple crumble was also very good, just the right amount of sweetness. We were very satisfied with the 5 meals catered by Mr Choong and it sure beats eating out when you are in the highlands as a group during the school holidays because getting a parking space in town is so difficult.

Overall, the family was happy staying here and we will return for another stay. A great place to just sit back, relax and enjoy the nice cool fresh air.

A well maintained vintage mansion located up a hill and away from the busy town. The lawn and backyard is great place for family activities. Bedrooms are spacious and comes with attached bathrooms. Only set backs are the water heaters, which requires 10 mins to heat up and some tuning to get the right mix on the water temperature. Mr Choong, the caretaker is a really nice chap with great PR skills and a really good cook. His homemade 'Yong Tau Fu' and Steamboat is a must try!!!

We spent three nights at Hilltop Bungalow and was overwhelmed by the fresh air, good view as well as good food prepared by Mr Chong. Just good and fit for dinner with wine tasting on several bottles followed by chatting of whatever subjects. Improvement would be better for upgrading the bathrooms. If wifi is provided, it would be more convenient for modern man's livelihood.

The highlight of our entire stay experience was Mr Chong who was the resident manager and chef. This colonial bungalow is nestled a hill top in the midst of hill forest and only accessible by private road. Although needing a little restoration and preservation, the accommodation is clean and well kept thanks to Mr Chong and you will truly experience a nostalgic feel of colonial Malaysia. It's a highly superb environment for a family retreat and getaway for the whole family. The highlight is the delicious home cooked food from Mr Chong, ranging from a warm steamboat, BBQ with unique tastes of meat and seafood, English Bacon & Eggs (perfect) breakfast, Malaysian favourites breakfast. All cooked with a passion to please. Mr Chong took over from his mom who managed the property for 30 years and passed on her recipes to Mr Chong. Visit and experience it to believe it.

We stay 2 nights during Hari Raya period. It was very crowded everywhere in Cameron Highland, so we just hang around in the Bungalow area. All of us are very enjoyed the cold and fresh air. The environment and atmosphere there made us very relax and release our stress. There is a big field allow kids running around and playing balls, as for adults, just made a cup of coffee, sitting there enjoyed the fresh air. We also enjoy those food prepared by Mr Choong.
