Detailed Reviews
We had our honeymoon stays in this hotel, the staff is very friendly and they give great service. It’s a true top end place with spectacular views, large well stocked rooms, two well maintained swimming pools and a big buffet breakfast. All areas of their service were well done. It’s worth every dollar.

Hotel is nice and modern, as it was very quiet we were updated to a deluxe pool view room which was nice, really spacious with two double beds, nice big bathroom and balcony. It seemed very nice and tastefully done, especially considering the low price to stay there.
Location of the hotel is good about a ten minute walk from the beach and on the Ao nang strip so plenty of bars, restaurants. It’s a good base.
We didn’t use any of the facilities, pool, food or anything so can’t really comment on that. I wouldn’t say that the service was that of a luxury hotel, when we arrived for example there is no one to help you to take your bags up to the room, but for the price you can’t really complain!

Stayed with the hotel for 5 nights over Christmas. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We have the room overlooking a "cliff" which was basically the forest alike woods, and if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of some squirrels.
Room was spacious except you don't really get privacy as the shower room and the toilet were side by side with transparent glass door. Would be better if the hotel could tint the glass door (just my suggestion). Breakfast buffet was a spread and can see that the staff really put in much effort on breakfast decoration, especially on the christmas day. (I have attached photos of breakfast deco on xmas day itself! Too cute to consume actually!)
Front desk staff were friendly and efficient, i called front desk one morning at 8:40am for a choked drainage in shower room and the plumber appear within 5 mins after the call! Kudos to their service!! On my last day, the front desk staff even help me post out my mail as i could not find a post office nearby! Yeap, i received my postcard! Thank you all for the wonderful stay.
Side note: I was promised a complimentary cake upon checking during booking as i was celebrating my friend's birthday but the cake didn't appear. Not a big issue but i suggest you guys to gently remind the staffs as the hotel can get busy at times with tons of travellers.

Excellent service at Sugar Marina Resort. We had an amazing 7 days. The room was very clean, very well equipped and the staff was very polite and helpful. The breakfast was very tasty, full of very good choices( cooked meals, eggs, fruits). We loved the pool, the room facilities and the communication with the staff. They were very helpful with tourist information and they offered us prompt service with the transport to the airport.
The hotel is situated at a 15 minute walk to the beach, it had plenty of shops, restaurants, tourist information and exchange offices nearby. It had also a 7 eleven shop nearby. We loved everything about this hotel.

+1
A pretty new building, or rather pair of buildings, the hotel is big and fairly empty. There are two very big pools open 8-8, and a dining room open for breakfast, which is a basic buffet of Asian and Western basics with an egg chef. Ironically, the water is labelled but it’s anyone’s guess as to everything else.
The location is very good - on the street perpendicular to the main drag by the beach, with oodles of shops, massage places, and restaurants, along with Western staples Starbucks, McDonalds and Watson’s pharmacy.
The room was two Queen or maybe double beds that were comfy and came with one pillow per person. We asked for another couple pillows, and after saying we could only have one more, they did drop two off. Tea and instant coffee were available but only two mugs for four people, and only 2 water glasses. A small desk and a large settee were also provided, along with a decent space to hand clothes, a small fridge, umbrellas and nice robes. The room has a balcony overlooking the pool. It was whisper quiet and the black-out curtains were perfect.
The bathroom was large but had that weird design feature of a glass partition between the bathroom and the room, and there was no lock on the bathroom door, nor did it properly seal (sliding door) which would be awkward for two couples to stay together.
The only downside is that it’s a steep climb to the Reception with no stairs so it wouldn’t be appropriate for some people. A minor issue is the decor is straight out of Montana or something, with hunting trophies on walls, panelling and metal features. Very odd and not at all keeping with its name or location.

The truth is there is a construction site next to the hotel. Not the hotels fault but you do hear this in the day.
The photos of the outside seating area shows rooftop seating street side. When we visited This was no longer there.
In my opinion-
The hotel on arrival looked like a multi story car park.
Cleaning throughout the public areas was not great. I did speak to the manager who did say she would sort this however the stairs to breakfast were still as dirty the day after speaking with her. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and clean, towels changed daily, beach towels and beach mat provided which was good however parts of the room could have been cleaner, like the windows and bottom of sink where it sits on the slate shelf. Breakfast was good even though it’s the same every day, the selection wasn’t bad and you can get omelette, scrambled, fried or boiled eggs freshly made. We had a swim up room in the older building. What you may not realise is that those lying on sun beds opposite are very close as the pool isn’t very wide and your balcony from the old building has only the view of sun beds opposite and is narrow to sit in.
The corridor to the rooms have doors to the laundry that are often left open. Not what you want to see really. You can also hear the laundry person or cleaners wheeling big trollies up and down the corridor from about 6-7am from the corridor we were staying in. Old building ground floor.
Although people say it’s a walk to the beach it’s not that far. Everything is accessible from supermarkets to restaurants to bars, massages and much more as soon as you step onto the street.

Best for couples and family with breathtaking view of the Krabi cliffs. Clean and comfy rooms with huge toilet meant for beach activities. Outside you can find decent massage, restaurants, tour agents and laundry services all at a reasonable price.
For reference 4 islands + Hong island tour was 3000 baht per pax including everything (permit+transport+food). There's a scooter rental shop just 5 mins walk away called Mr. Sak. and we got 5 days 125cc scooter for 1000 baht. You can walk up the main road and turn left and there's a lot of food stalls for a much better quality and cheaper compared to the cutthroat bars in Ao Nang center area. Recommend a yellow stall called Go Deng Thai Noodles with delicious boat noodle, 60 baht a bowl.
Special thanks to Nui who was so welcoming on our arrival and even gave us an early check-in because it was my birthday.

As frequent visitors to Ao Nang we have stayed in many Hotels there but this was our first visit to the Sugar Marina... when we checked in we were presented with a breakfast menu for the following morning,as there was very little choice.. just 3 dishes..I asked about cereals and yoghurt to be told "no extras" not a very good start.
The rooms and beds are spacious and comfortable but nowhere to store clothes apart from a small rack with hangers... not one drawer to be seen.
Swimming pool decking is in a poor state..loose board's and nails showing, the pool itself is not child friendly, water 1.2 metres deep and a big step to the bottom of the pool from the last thing on the ladder... not good.
Previously we have stayed in the sister hotel the Marina Express which was very good, pity the Sugar Marina could not match.

The staff here were lovely but this is a very busy hotel with an unconventional layout. The hotel reception is up a steep bank when you arrive and then there are two hotel blocks. One back down the bank (where we stayed) and one accessed through the reception.
We were over the moon we were in the block nearest the street so we didn’t have to walk up and Down the bank everytime we came in and out. You’ll know what I mean if you stay there.
The room was nice but looked tired. Parts of the wall were crumbling. And the lighting was so dark in both the main room and bathroom. Hardly any space to put things or hang clothes so I didn’t bother unpacking. We booked pool access rooms and we had the ones that you could step into from the patio but you will need to be fit to climb over from the small patio and then the step into the main bit of the pool is quite deep. The water was freezing as this pool doesn’t get much sun. Beware that they also class the rooms above on the next floor as pool access but you have to come out of your patio and use a shared set of steps with room adjacent to you to climb down into the pool. Just looking at those stairs gave me anxiety. They can’t be safe for kids with wet feet when they’re excited. That’s just my opinion.
We stayed for 3 nights and wouldn’t stay again. We wished we’d stayed in the area where the night market is. There’s a lovely street that has a hotel called Red Ginger on it which seems really up and coming. We stayed at the Centara on that street 12 years ago when it was practically just a gravel road but now it’s charming and is just the right amount of busy. If we returned to Krabi we’d definitely stay in this area as opposed to on the busy street that Marina Cliffhanger is on.

I had booked a suite facing the street. The room looks really great in the photos, but in reality it is shabby: paint is coming off the furniture, a sliding door separates the bedroom from the entrance area, but the door has no glass and therefore offers no soundproofing. There was plenty of storage space in the bathroom, but no place to hang towels. The shower had 2 glass doors: one to the bathroom and one to the balcony, where there was a bathtub. The seals on these doors were not secured. The film that was stuck to the door was also coming off in some places. There was also a sofa with a small table on an animal skin. The broken air conditioning and the misconception about this room prompted me to ask at reception if I could reduce my stay from 7 to 2 days. The ladies at reception were all super friendly and agreed to my change of plans, as was the booking platform. After 10 minutes I received a call telling me to go to reception and pay the new amount for 2 days. They also gave me another room because of the broken air conditioning, and even gave me an upgrade. I was also completely happy with this room with pool access, but I had already booked another hotel in the meantime. Unfortunately, it rained on the 2 days I stayed there. The breakfast was only moderately good. Unfortunately, the Asian breakfast is too heavy for me in the morning. So all I had left was toast and scrambled eggs and the leftovers from the fruit plate. Pastries were inedible.
Overall, the hotel gets a good rating for the building in which I ended up staying, the building facing the street urgently needs to be renovated.
